Things like no knife in my wife's setup, bread coming out 15 minutes after the butter, our waitress turning her back to us to address the adjacent table, and the smelly cheese cart in the front foyer. These are little things, but a truly great restaurant would have them covered. I'll be back because the meal was superb, but, next time, will come with lower expectations.Special Features:

We have always enjoyed the exquisitely prepared menu items, superb wine list and attentive waiters. However the new tasting menu implemented is a disappointment. Our $72.00 3-course menu (can order as many as 7 courses) had itsy-bitsy portions, albeit arranged with delicate precision. It was somewhat difficult registering the flavors of such small bites. Even if we just plan to have cheese and wine, the 3-course menu always pulls us in. This time, it was a delicious autumn salad with eggplant caviar, mushrooms, asparagus and unknown and wonderful other things on it. A crab salad with tomato gelee was also great. Main courses were beef tenderloin and jidori chicken. The chicken was the least successful of all the dishes, as it was kind of mushy. Wines were excellent, and very well chosen by Sylvestre (I think that is the sommelier). Service as always was excellent, and they paid attention to the timing, because we had a concert next door. You don't come here to eat -- you come to get "wow-ed". Portions are generally small (especially appetizers), but offer unique food tastes and beautiful preparations/presentations. They now only have a 3/4/5 course tasting menu, but there seems to be a decent range of selections. Everything that we had was great. Appetizers: langostinos, sweetbreads. Mains: filet, seabass. Service was outstanding with staff that really made you feel welcome. One piece of advice: As the wine list is quite pricy, and glass pours seemed a bit skimpy, bring your own and pay a corkage fee.Special Features:

Dark and un-imaginative interior with pretty, textured wood panels that do not work for the place. It is in total contrast with the knockout WD Concert Hall that houses it. The service was provided by a strange bunch of personnel and was overall friendly, at times awkward, and bordering annoying/intrusive. The food struck us as pretentious, not necessarily attractive in appearance. Both the pork and the chicken dish preparations were fairly tasteless and lacking flavor. The wine list is extensive with many high priced choices that would not be worth pairing with the mediocre level of the food. Overall, a disappointment.Special Features:

I think this was my fourth or fifth time in three years and I've never been disappointed. Chew slowly or else you may miss clever culinary delights like a sweet cake adorned with a savory, gelatinous sauce (disguised as icing?) as an amuse bouche or a crispy wafer or crunchy piece of bacon adding texture to something that would otherwise melt in your mouth. I think the chef feels he is competing with the theatrical elements of the neighborhood (LA Philharmonic, Music Center, Ahmanson Theatre, etc.), and the drama expressed in the plating is appreciated and fits in with the exquisite competition of a Dudamel.Special Features:

Our food was very well prepared and beautifully served. Portion size is on the small side. Service is slow so if you are going to a show make a reservation for 2.5 hrs ahead of your show start time. We had reservations for 6 pm and our show started at 8 pm. One of the members of the party was 15 min late so in all fairness we started our service later than anticipated but we had to rush out the door and barely made it to our seats on time. My final bill was $113 for a glass of wine, a shared water bottle from their new 'water menu', 3-course chef's menu and coffee. They were attentive without being overbearing, and everyone was personable, they each showed their personality which to me is extremely important when you are being attended to. White Corn Agnolotti, a little out of the box, but a very tasty dish. Shellfish Linguini, lovely dish, very tasty. Wild Sea Bass was outstanding, we had it twice since it was so good. Calamari A La Plancha, the calamari was tender, the filling delicious, well executed. Braised Pork Belly, the taste was good, better prepared than the first time, but the zucchini would have been better if it was cooked less and not under the pork. Veal Tongue a La Pobre, the tongue was the star, the mushroom gratin made it a bit too rich. Interesting and perfectly paired wines from Portugal, France, and Oregon. Beautiful and delicious desserts (chocolate "candy bar" with lemon sorbet, and their version of strawberries and cream). Our group had the 5-course $45 Dine LA menu and the waiters didn't make us feel bad for doing it. All of it was good but the seabass dish was outstanding. Food was pretty & delicious. As it was my friend's birthday, they sent her home with chocolates & kind words (from the manager?) that would have sounded sychophantic at any other restaurant but came out very genuine here. The Roasted Caladonia Prawns, a very asian dish, very familiar to my wife's palate, very pleased. The Wild Sea Bass was outstanding, perfectly cooked, very tasty, good portion. The beans were a different touch, which was a pleasant surprise. The Roasted Jidori Chicken, was a bit dry, but the potato/truffle mousseline was fabulous. We love pork belly, but this one was too caramelized. and she didn't care for the zucchini ribbons. The Strawberries and Cream tasted good, but not a big standout dish. Enjoyed the dining experience. Great service. The only things that seemed lacking were 1) it took a while to get menus and 2) wine service was a little slower than we liked. With a $30 corkage fee we expected that the wine glasses would not fall below a certain level unless we ran low; however, our bottle was not low and it took a while for the glasses to be refilled. First off, service IS as great as they all claim! So personable, friendly, courteous! We enjoyed the service from beginning to end, when the manager Kevin gave us a small box of chocolates for our birthday. The dining experience itself was amaaazing. We loved everything and we were completely satisfied/stuffed by the time our main (4th) course came out! We definitely plan on returning, and are glad we found a wonderful restaurant to consider for future special occasions.
