Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful place for a pre-or post-theater dinner. Extensive wine list, menu selections from fresh seasonal meats and produce Portion size is not to overstuff. Very attentive and courteous staff. Valet Parking"

  • "Everything is always near-perfect at Patina, in my experience. I've been many times, both at Disney Hall and before the move in Hollywood. This time, there were a couple of misses: the white asparagus could not be cut, even with the sharp knife provided -- a shame, as the sauce was incredible. And the sauce on the perfectly cooked lobster lacked flavor and substance. But the spring peas and greens -- heaven, in several presentations! The tuna stack -- exquisitely composed and delicious. The amuse was a silky cold asparagus soup, not to be missed!. The service was, as always, gracious and attentive. We will be back for many more pre-Phil dinners!"

  • "Patina is in a great location to go to the Disney Concert Hall. The décor is modern and seating is comfortable. The staff is attentive to a fault. We would have liked a little less intrusiveness. The food was good. Portions were small. The meal was expensive ($300 with tip) but not worth it. We have had much better meals for less. Would we eat there again? No. Also, the vegan/vegetarian options were minimal and miniscule. We have had wonderful dinners at the Orange County version of Patina, with better service, better variety of food options, and better price. Maybe it's just Orange County vs LA?"

  • "This is a hard review to do as I went many years ago to the location on Melrose. What stuck in my mind was that the food was excellent. However, the ambience was a bit stark, a bit stuff and quiet for me. The new location was even more so as it cleared by 8:00 pm due to the Disney Concert Hall next door. It made me feel uptight and not fully relaxed. I still love the food, but ambience is so much a part of my enjoyment that I am conflicted as to whether to recommend to others. I guess I will have to be specific as the food was really amazing!!!"

  • "Patina provides every aspect of excellence in a fine dining experience. With how well we were taken care of, I got the impression that there were more staff than diners. And, the food was innovative and delicious to the last bite. Go to Patina and from then on measure how close any other fine dining experience may come."

  • "Good grief! I couldn't believe the service at Patina. There must have been six thousand people waiting on us. Waiters hovered all around, catering to our every need. Impressive! And a great dinner too."

  • "This place is an absolute treat for anyone that is wanting to experience fine dinning at its best. The service, the food, the wine list and the cheese platter is TO DIE FOR!!! From one foodie to another.......go try it!"

  • "We attended numerous Disney Concert Hall and Music Center events in the past month, and had three exceptional dinners at Patina during that time frame. We enjoyed exquisite, innovative nuanced cuisine and extremely attentive service each time -- with an amuse bouche and four to five courses. All were wonderfully balanced, artfully prepared and plated with the courses well timed and executed by the staff. The wine list, cheese course selection, service and all the minute details Patina's staff attended to really made our evenings top notch experiences. We especially appreciated Jeremy's wonderful service and Kevin's helpfulness on our last visit."

  • "This is as good as it gets. Fantastic wine list, great food and excellent service."

  • "the food and decor were excellent. Even more, I was struck by the service and friendliness of thestaff as our orders were modest with no drinks. The restaurant is in beautiful Disney Concert Hall and dinner and a concert made for a memorable evening."

  • "Patina does amazing job to ensure that your special occasion is extra special. The general manager does a fantastic job training his staff to make your visit memorable."

  • "The atmosphere has potential, but the details were ignored: not one of the table cloths were the same size. None of them covered the ugly black metal bases of the tables. When you arrive the tables intentially have no table settings, napkins, or glasses...not inviting or appealing. And when the greatly overpriced food arrived it was boring...the chef has not changed anything since this location opened over 10 years ago. I would give it a "must miss"."

  • "This is such an amazing place. Top drawer yet so casual and friendly. The food continues to amaze me and the wine list has something for everyone and it is endless. This is simply one of the great joys for dining in Los Angeles."

  • "After the departure to Las Vegas of Executive Chef Theo Schoenegger several years ago, I felt that Patina went through some difficult times. A string of chefs brought varying degrees of success to the restaurant but none, in my opinion, up to the level that Theo had set. Now with a new manager, Kevin Welby, and Executive Chef Charles Olalia, Patina has made an excellent recovery. Service and cuisine are back up to the high standard we had come to expect of Patina."

  • "We were fortunate to arrive early for our reservations which allowed my wife and I to go with the Chef's choice. Quite a few of the items we would not have chosen if eating a la cart, but we would have missed out. They were all delightful. The cod was perfect. The short ribs were melt in your mouth. The subtle flavors glorious. The service is always impeccable. The water glasses filled before you can think to ask. The bread offered frequently, and always fresh. This is my number one favorite restaurant if I am going to the theater or the concert hall. I love Patina."

  • "We were there for an after matinee supper so it was before rush hour. Consequently the restaurant was working under relaxed conditions and not stressed, We have been there at busy times and it was also a great experience."

  • "I finally found it: a restaurant with food so divine it should be a last meal, with an atmosphere so comfortable I can be a regular. Patina was 7th on my list of LA restaurants to try, but deserved to be first. Don't make the same mistake as me: go now!"

  • "Stylish place, in the '60's way. Very good wine. A LOT of very attentive service, there are more waiters than customers there. Very short menu, just a few dishes, everything expensive, think around $40 per dish. Portions are small and look more like Japanese art on a plate than what your mama would serve you. I personally abhor this style but can be forgiving if the food at least tastes like it pretends to. Unfortunately, there was nothing to write home about it. It was good but rather on the ok side. Salty, which is an indication to me that it wasn't prepared while you wait. All together it was alright since we were going to a concert in Disney Hall and the restaurant is in the same building. Convenient."

  • "We hadn't been to Patina in a few years because we had uneven service before a concert a few years ago. We decided to try dining there again because we had two events to attend in one week. We went with the Paelo menu for health reasons, and it turned out better than we'd expected. The amuse, salad and butternut squash soup all tasted right out of a garden -- fresh and delightfully seasoned. The main course of pork belly and pork was artistically plated and looked the size of a 7-course dinner plating; however, the portion turned out very satiating. Our dessert of a sort of coconut panne cotta was really sublime and mildly sweet. Our service was top-notch - and on-point of what I expect from Patina."

  • "The food at Patina is in a league of its own. While there are certainly many restaurants in the LA area that offer incredible cuisine, they each have a unique character that, which means that they really cannot be compared. The chef's creations were incredible, the taste was incredibly refined and wonderful. The service is incredible with an incredible staff ready to assist but never overbearing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves world class food with top shelf service!"

  • "Quiet elegance at Disney Hall. Delicious food, impeccable service."

  • "Came here for Kobe week. It was one item on a larger menu, but that's what I wanted. The amuse was appreciated, and the soup was good, but not altogether spectacular. The Kobe dish was very good and I thought I had chosen wisely. The butternut squash ice cream was a risky choice that made me think that once is enough for that one. All in all, another good trip to Patina."

  • "As always Patina is a treat. Ambiance and service are impeccable"

  • "Excellent food and service, though we were a little overwhelmed by the number of different servers. Good place for a quiet dinner - a low noise level was welcomed!"

  • "Convenient location for Disney Hall, but service very slow, barely made it to our seats for concert. Menu too "Designer". Men had trouble picking what they wanted from menu. Small portions for the men. Would not choose to go back. Too many other good places with the van service to Disney or Ahmanson theaters."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Food and service are terrific at this restaurant. We needed to eat at 8, not an ideal time as the restaurant is adjacent to Disney Hall and experiences a lull between 8 and 10 PM. There were only 2 other tables occupied. Still though, we had a wonderful meal and will be back."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "The service was truly one of the best I have ever experienced. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as special as the exceptional people who work at the restaurant."

  • "Had a lovely pre concert dinner of black truffle risotto & Chateneuf-Du-Pape, then came back after the concert for a cheese plate & coffee. Patina never disappoints! Outstanding service & food!"

  • "Dined there solo before a concert. Everything is top notch....the food, service, atmosphere. So many places don't live up to expectations, but I'm never disappointed at Patina!"

  • "Service was very good. Food was good not great. In fact, at 7:30 they were out of one of the entrees which suprised me. They tried to give us a bad table by the door--said that a booth was not ready. Funny, they found a booth in a minute. Appetizers were good. my friend ordered a salad and it was very plain. My fish was very fresh and cooked well but for the price should have had a few more veggies. Dessert was also very good but not fabulous. I was expecting fabulous."

  • "The prices were high, the food portions are small but the restaurant decor and service were amazing. Up to you if you want to make the splurge."

  • "Patina has a romantic ambience and excellent service! However I was a bit disappointed at the food! We chose the 4-course menu for our Valentine dinner with high expectation giving this was one of the few places in LA that received Michelin star. Well, it didn't live up to our expectation. The food was good but not great! The tenderloin was a bit too salty and the soup was very light. I actually enjoyed the bread and butter the most. I would definitely come back once the chef re-invent his menu. Patina has a lot of potential."

  • "Food is good but not great. Bass is not supposto me fishy if it is fresh. A bit of a let down. The roast filet, however, was perfect. Our waiter was "creepy" and thought a bit much of his sense of humor."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The waiters were exceptional. I can't get any more precise than that. They are attentive at all times, without making you feel overwhelmed like other restaurants do when they keep coming to your table to ask how everything is. They have their service down to a "T". It was a pleasant experience that I recommend to anyone that wants to be treated like royalty."

  • "We went to Patina for dinner before a concert. The experience at Patina fit perfectly for the evening. The dining room is beautiful in decor with sculptured wood walls that reflected the symphony hall. The food was creative and original in presentation and in taste. I had a scallop dish and have never had scallops done so perfectly. The service was extremely attentive without being obtrusive. They described each dish well which I thought added to the enjoyment. This is a special place which made for a perfect evening."

  • "I knew the food and preparation would be excellent, so I wanted to find out if the service would be equal to the task.....It was! The entire experience was sublime; definitely one to return as often as it can be afforded. It remind me of restaurants I attended when I was a child in Argentina."

  • "Really overpriced, small portions, average food preparation. Even the martinis were undersized."
