And, Patina fit the bill on that. We took the metro from Redondo Beach and avoided the Friday night traffic to Downtown and Patina was just 2 blocks away from the metro. Anyway, we were a tad late, but, the staff were very accommodating and we got seated right away.
Dinner was fabulous and service was great!
We got to the theater in time for Placido Domingo singing a great song.
All in all, Patina started our night off in a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Service in a Long timeI was amazed at the customer service. They asked if we were going to the theatre, but we were not, so we had plenty of time. We did not feel rushed. The staff was very attentive without being intrusive. They did not needlessly interupt our conversations. The food and presentation was beautiful as usual. The most impressive thing I experienced was that they warmed the cream for my coffee. I have never had that level of detail in coffee service. Fantastic dinner spot. A. Music Center across the street. The service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding and beautifully presented. We were all very impressed the quality of service and food presented to us and am glad it is the direct opposite of LA Times' Jonathan Gold's review on his rather pity and controversial 101 Top Restaurant list. We were once again impressed with delicious food, outstanding presentation and impeccable service. We both had the tasting menu, the host came by our table to announce the changes and was charming to boot! I only noticed a minor dropping of the ball when we had asked for sparkling water and got refills of non- sparkling and sparkling all night. From the moment we stepped up to the restaurant everyone was so warm and inviting. We induldged in a tasting menu with wine pairings. There was not one course that was disappointing. Each course was better than the next and the sommelier paired the wines wonderfully. For the vegetable mosaic course, he paireda Reisling which usually none of us are fond of but sure enough, he was spot on. The staff was extremely impressive. They were so knowledgable but also approachable and not up tight at all. In my opinion, there is not a better restaurant if you are looking for the best food and service in the city. Service not so much. Waiters forgot napkins, forgot requests right after having a long conversation about it. Someone had to dodge a napkin being handed to the person next to her. Servers were all congregating and talking to each other when some guests were trying to flag them down. Bread server was slapping the bread really hard while offering choices. A little weird. Servers convinced not to get a course because it's too early for it (we ended up just not getting that course). Hop these all could be improved! His ahi tuna appetizer and my mosaic vegetable signature dish were outstanding. He said his scallops entree was very good. I had the poached salmon, which tasted fine but looked colorless. The flourless chocolate dessert we shared was indescribably delicious!!! Service was excellent and the decor was lovely. Highly recommended! Be sure to allot at least 2 hours for dinner before seeing a show at the Ahmanson, Disney Hall, or Mark Taper e.g. so you don't feel rushed.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always loved Patina.I have always loved Patina. I moved away from LA in 2001 and heard it had closed down. I was just there for a business trip and was amazed to find it was open and right near Disney Hall. I made a reservation for dinner on Sunday night, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered it. The food is really fantastic with beautiful presentation and amazing flavors. Service was wonderful and attentive. The first thing they ask is which event you have tickets for and then they do their very best to get you out the door in time. We arrived a little late and were seated immediately and the maitre'd suggested the food choices that would fit into our timeline. The Turbot was a beautiful plate and was delightfully delicate. The complimentary amuse´bouche and small dessert were sufficient to fill out our menu.
