Diner Reviews
  • "The farm to table cuisine is excellent. Selections provide a good offering of unique and common dishes, all taste as if made from scratch. Love the quiet atmosphere and personable service."

  • "We arrived on time and were immediately seated for our reservation. Our server paced the courses so that we were able to leisurely enjoy our experience. She even worked our order around a large group that had arrived shortly after us. We started with a couple of drinks where our server was able to make helpful suggestions. As usual the food was top shelf. The Charcuterie appetizer was a new choice for us and we look forward to ordering it again. A wonderful mix of texture and flavor. The wife's tuna special and my rockfish were both cooked to perfection. Patina is clearly our go to place not only for excellent food, but also for a relaxing, intimate, and romantic dining experience!"

  • "My wife and I eat out a lot. But I was blown away by Patina. The dish that was so great was a salmon dish. Easily one of the best meals I have had in months. The service was stellar as well. We will be back soon."

  • "We enjoyed Patina Grill frequently (the best Martini in town, Bill the best waiter ever, eclectic menu, etc. until a change of ownership that served mediocre food; uninviting behavior-they wouldn't honor a Groupon and generally an less than satisfying experience x's 2. One year later we gave it another try; happily, because we found the food better, a good Martinin to be had again and great service-thank you Patty."

  • "Excellent service, especially for a large table of 9! Everyone was pleased with their entrees which included Rockfish, short ribs, steak, and pork belly. The only item that was questionable was the oyster starter, which had an odd flavor. The ambiance was very pleasant, not too loud. I would recommend Patina to those who enjoy unique combinations of food and flavor."

  • "Great local restaurant. Like having a smaller menu with well prepared choices. Each entree was perfectly seasoned and plentiful."

  • "food is fabulous every time we go to Patina Grill. The folks in the kitchen really know their trade, flavor profiles are spot on, wait staff made excellent suggestions for wine pairings. Tired of ordinary?, head to Patina Grill, give your taste buds a treat."

  • "The success of this restaurant would mean richmond is ready to be a foodie town. We need to support places like this to keep great chefs coming to richmond."

  • "Thought the portions were a little small for the price. Everything else was pretty good."

  • "The atmosphere and layout for this restaurant really was quite nice and made me very optimistic when we arrived. Unfortunately, the rest of the dining experience did not meet expectations (I'm really easy to please, too!). The service was not welcoming at all. Not that servers were rude, but there certainly was a lack of good service. It took over 30 minutes just to get our drinks. The server was overwhelmed and had to return several times to confirm our order. Not to our surprise but the salad was wrong. That's ok though (again not picky). Once our food arrived, it just finally hit that there are much better places to go. All of the food was either under cooked or over cooked and covered. And lastly, it is too expensive. Never again."

  • "The food and service was excellent. They even gave my lady a white rose on the way out. I would go back for special occasions, but it's a little pricey, so my budget won't allow Patina's to be a regular dining establishment. The general ambience was nice, but I only gave ambience 3 stars because I thought the seating was a little uncomfortable. There were several tables positioned along a shared bench that ran across the back wall. On our next visit, we will request a booth. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic restaurant to take your date, Patina's will score high!"

  • "We decided to try Patina again- it used to be a favorite. Our service was great, but the portions were very small and we're not big eaters. My husband's stroganoff portion had very little meat. I ordered short ribs. Strange, they had cut them off the bone. In doing so, they cut off cartilage which was attached to the meat and more difficult to separate than if it had been left on."

  • "This was our first visit to Patina and it was very good. The location is cozy and the food is delicious."

  • "I chose this place to take my brother, who has eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. We wanted something nicer than the usual fare-- in Short Pump, which is filled with chain restaurants. Our waiter was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Everyone's dinner was delicious and just a little bit out of the ordinary. No pretentious combinations of ingredients no one ever heard of, but interesting. My brother declared the beef short ribs one of the best things he's ever eaten. My lamb shank was delicious. I would definitely go back!"

  • "Our first time back after the change of hands...missed the old Patina Grill menu and atmosphere although there isn't a huge change...same furnishings, etc. The "feel" is different however. Nothing was outstanding but all good. A couple of dishes were too heavy on the salt. Overall experience was okay."

  • "We had a very nice dinner here, only complaints being uncomfortable seating (hard benches with no cushions) and being out of one of the meals we ordered. I particularly liked the short ribs with root vegetables."

  • "I loved the ambience and setting, very nice for romantic dining. The Manakintowne Arugula was light and refreshing, with delicate hints of country ham. The stuffed quail was done to perfection, and the flat iron was good, although a tiny bit tough. The braised oysters were wonderful, but the portion was tiny. All in all, a good dining experience, but the portions are a bit small and pricey."

  • "The phone reservation was handled nicely and was the first part of truly a terrific night. Our waitress (Ann) was accommodating, let us take our time, never pushed, even though we were her last table. The food was delicious and the portions didn't stuff us. We unequivocally recommend Patina!"

  • "Christmas Eve at Patina was a delight! The duck breast (too fabulous for words), the ginger martini, and the pistachio ice cream. Unbelievable!!!"

  • "Patina Grill has wonderful food and I will definitely return. The lighting, however, is much too bright. It is like being at Mc Donald's . The restaurant is decorated very attractively, but the bright lights detract from the ambience."

  • "We recently moved to the Short Pump area and are always looking for great non-chain restaurants. I had seen some good reviews of Patina and thought we'd give it a try. We went on a Wednesday and they offer a great 1/2 off deal on house wines! The food was incredible! We had the crispy pork belly app, flat iron steak and pork chops. Everything was fantastic - we all but licked the plates clean! The decor and service was equally enjoyable. I also love that they support local farms. We live right around the corner so will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "We had not been to Patina since the management/ownership change, and this occasion was my wife's birthday. It was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and the miserable weather made for a light dining crowd. However, we received stellar service at both bar and table. The quality of food has significantly improved since our last visit several years ago. My wife had the Flintstone-portioned short rib while I had the corvina special - both were superb. The fashionable West End needs to realize what a gem it has here compared to the plethora of mediocre chain restaurants in the area. This is the sort of fine dining one expects in the Fan or Downtown. We will return."

  • "We had not eaten at Patinas since it was reopened with a new farm to table menu but were pleased with our selection for a girls night out dining option. The restaurant has kept all of the interior of the old Patina's which I always liked but the menu is completely revamped. On Thurs nights they have a 3 course option for $35 but we each decided against that as too much food for this evening. My winter squash soup was Devine! Hot, full of flavor and I paired it with a second course of roasted quail for my dinner. My friends got the field green salads and braised short ribs over risotto and rockfish. A chocolate dessert was shared . Wine list was ample without being overly lengthy and the service was attentive."

  • "Having enjoyed the new Patina since it opened, this was the best experience yet. Five professionals enjoyed some of the best meals of our LIVES, augmented by the consistent exceptional service and bar experience! Far and away the best restaurant in Richmond. More importantly though, one of the best restaurants in VA for sure and in the mid-Atlantic as well. A true gem! Unbelievably good!"

  • "Great location and welcoming ambiance. I had the crab cakes and my wife had the beef ribs. The squach soup was excellent. I would come back just for the soup. Service was perfect. Thanks for a great dinner. Tom Allen"

  • "After not having been to Patina Grill for over 10 years (I have no idea why), I was more than pleased to have returned. The wait staff was wonderful and the chef was very accommodating. My wife is vegan, so she asked the waitress if there were anything they could prepare to suit her dietary needs. She came back from the kitchen very quickly with the chef's recommendation for a custom dish that nailed it. I assure you, it won't be another 10 years before we return."

  • "We were looking for a nice local restaurant in the West End and were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the staff really cared. We enjoyed the meal. We walked out full but not over stuffed which was great. Not really a place for any kids. More of a high end restaurant for a nice dinner or lunch."
