Pasteur is one of the finest Vietnamese restaurants in Chicago, showcasing one of the worls's great cuisines. It has an atmosphere reminiscent of colonial Saigon both the outside facade and the well done interior. Although it was not outdoor dining this time we ate at the restaurant, we have had meals there in the warm season in the beautiful outdoor back patio...one of the pretiest and classiest outdoor dining venues in the city. The menu is extensive covering lots of styles of Vietnamese cooking. This time we had several appetizers and a claypot chicken dish and a curry beef and eggplant dish for our main course, both superbly prepared. Our server was delightful, helpful and efficient. Good, varied wine list for the cuisine.

But the food was dismal and how we hate to wrote this. On argyle you'll find food 10x better, and zero ambiance. So at Pasteur you can feast your eyes on the decor. But if you need great food and flavors, it misses the mark... C'est dommage.

I have been dining at Pasteur since it was a little hole in the wall on the corner of Sheridan and Lawrence. Our dinner Friday night was outstanding. I've never had a disappointing meal there. Our waiter, Sean was very personable, knowledgeable and did his best to make us comfortable. We had been sat at a table that was put right behind the host desk possible to make room for several large parties that had been booked. Not the most comfortable place to be. But the food was great and so was the service.

Lived in the area for 7 years now and just got over to Pasteur. Scolding myself for not having gone before. What in the world is this BEAUTIFUL restaurant missing? a buzz of patrons. The location could do with more foot traffic - the kind of feet attached to great food seekers. Will do my part to spread the word.

Food was very yummy, but for the price we paid the portions were quite small. We ordered two apps and two entrees and my wife and I were still hungry afterward and ordered tempura. No we are not giant fatties who eat a lot, just normal folks. Either give more food on the plate or knock 20% off the prices and I'll return.

I really enjoyed Pasteur in its former iteration, and was hoping it was as good after it reopened. I am delighted to say that it is. The restaurant is visually striking combining a modernistic touches to a classic colonial South East Asia ambiance. It is quite a departure from it's North Broadway neighborhood. The backyard garden patio is a fabulous option for Al Fresco cocktails and dining. The food is delicious with an a large number of well prepared creative selections on the menu. Their were no limitations in choices ranging from light to heavy, veggie to meats and seafood, casual to formal. The wine list has many selections that are quite varied and so well priced that full bottles can be a better value than buying by the glass.

My family tried this restaurant out last Friday night. It was beautiful out and they had the windows open. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant is very pretty inside and out, especially in the evening. The food was just as pretty and tasty. The lollipop chicken and shrimp tempura appetizers were a hit especially for the kids. We had the Curry Chicken, Calamari Sa-Te, Grilled Beef Short Ribs and Signature Beef Steak. All were quite marvelous that we had to get a taste of each other's plates. Good thing we were all family! The restaurant staff was friendly and provided advice on the menu. I would recommend this restaurant and I look forward to my next visit.

My husband and I recently enjoyed our Anniversary Dinner at Pasteur. After booking a reservation on Open Table, we also happened upon a Groupon Deal for a 4 course dinner for two for $60. We loved each of the choices that we selected. The space is beautiful as well. Our only complaints were that the menus were sticky and needed a wiping down, and the bus boy that brought out our food, did not clear away finished dishes. This is unfortunate as we noted that there is a skilled chef in the back but staff in the front need some polishing up. We still would go back for another meal as the food was delicious.

Went for dinner and had a good meal. Appetizers are really small and overpriced. You can get the same things on Argyle St for much cheaper and larger size, like the spring rolls. Cocktails tasted good but again expensive. Didn't last more than a few sips. Loved the clay pot salmon. Nicely cooked and great flavor. Bo Luc Lac was also very tasty. Desserts were way too heavy. A couple lighter choices would be nice. Looks like a lot of good items on the menu to try at future visits. Service was good but a seemed a little to casual for the atmosphere and food the restaurant is trying to portray. Not likely to be a restaurant we'd come to regularly but a good once in a while or special occasion place.

I finally made it in to Pasteur over the weekend and was very disappointed. The food was no different than what you would find in any spot on Argyle and we tried 7 different dishes. Our server was very nice, but would not come to the table unless we flagged him down. The space is beautiful and every staff member we came in contact with was friendly. However, the average food will keep me from going back.

Pasteur is my go to restaurant for many occasions. The food is upscale Vietnamese, everything is just a little more lovely than you'll find just a few blocks down the street. The dining room is gorgeous and the patio is even more beautiful. The service is friendly but efficient. The cocktails are tasty. If I want to take my partner for a romantic dinner - the patio is perfect. Meet friends for dinner and drinks or just get pho to go if I'm not feeling well.

Second trip to Pasteur, first was on a frigid night diring restaurant week. excellent again with two minor comments; could not be seated outside due to a private party (minor) and the accompaniments listed on the menu for the delicious pork tenderloin entree were substituted with what appeared to be frozen peas and carrots, which was disappointing. Still overall great food service and ambiance.

We are very glad we gave Pastuer another try! The new Pastuer is lovely. The windows were open and a gentle breeze kept us cool. We opened with fresh and delicious small plates and moved onto satisfying and amply portioned main courses. When Pasteur reopened a while back we were initially disappointed at the small portions and expensive prices. Now the menu has been fine tuned to include large and small plates so that diners can try many of the nicely prepared dishes. The service was very friendly, helpful and easy going. They were slightly short staffed but we never felt ignored. The dishes arrived quickly but not so quick that we couldn't enjoy a cocktail and glass of wine with dinner. We will go back to enjoy the lovely patio.

Excellent egg-plant side dish, which we had as an appetizer. The spring-rolls were flavorless. Would not order any shrimp item from this restaurant: their shrimps were tasteless. There was a heavy reliance on the sauces for flavor in all the dishes, however, the duck breast was savory and quite good. We had to wait a good 15 minutes before any waitstaff came to our table, and we were informed that our assigned waiter Elliott(?)was nowhere to be found. However, Lindsay took over and provided excellent service.

Beautiful space with courteous servers. The service was a little slow, but I think it was unusually busy due to Memorial Day Weekend as well as Bike the Drive happening the next morning. The server was very apologetic-- they were probably understaffed that night. The food was once again spectacular. The vegetable spring rolls had my mouth doing handsprings, with fresh lettuce, cilantro, and pickled carrots for wrapping as well as a light but flavorful dipping sauce. I once again had the signature beef-steak and it was just as consistently delicious as it was before-- cooked to perfection with a red-wine reduction sauce I wanted to lick off the plate, over a bed of refreshingly contrasting watercress.

Stepping into Pasteur, you'd think you walked off North Broadway in Uptown and into a swanky River North or Gold Coast digs. The rustic tile floors, white wainscot walls, wicker chairs and slow spinning ceiling fans coupled with gentle and relaxing French inspired music quickly create an ambiance of a French Vietnam Colonial restaurant. Service was excellent, the cocktails were refreshing, and the food was light, delicious and full of flavor. To top it off, the entree prices are extremely reasonable, making it perfect for a weeknight dinner that doesn't break the bank or an enjoyable weekend date where you can indulge a little more in the specialty cocktails or a nice bottle of wine.

This is a nice room with a decent wine list and good service. The cocktails are a bit overhyped, but the food is a muted version, at a greater cost, of what you can get three blocks south on the same street. My wife and I got all gussied up and went out here for our 13th anniversary, and ultimately wished we'd stayed in jeans and t-shirts and gone BYO to one of the Vietnamese restaurants down around Argyle. Nothing we had was bad, but everything was just a little more boring than what we're used to with this cuisine.
