A word from Pastaio

Pastaio is the Italian word for "pasta maker" which reflects our Chef's experience working as Pastaio for restaurants in New York including Eataly, where she would turn out roughly 3,000 pounds weekly. We now bring fresh handmade pasta daily to the Jersey Shore incorporating the freshest seasonal… ingredients to our menu that changes each day. At Pastaio we strive to support our local produce, fish and meat, purveyors on an organic and sustainable basis. Our Menu reflects our kitchen staff experience with classical french training and the bounty of the Garden State. We are proud to utilize Trinity Seafood of Asbury Park for our fish and Pat LaFrieda Meats of New York for our meat and poultry.Continued

"The restaurant came highly recommended. Six of us arrived with great anticipation. The staff was very cordial, the menu was nice but a little limited. We found the food to be ok, but nothing outstanding. Four of us ordered one of the dishes that came highly recommended by the waiter and it was supposed to have a very flavorful broth (linguine with cockels). All of us thought it was rather bland. After dinner, we all agreed that we probably wouldn't go back. However, one person did comment that it was refreshing to enjoy a meal in a quiet atmosphere where we could hear one another."

"We were greeted and the gentleman who worked there raved about the Chef and the dishes. That was the last he spoke to us. After receiving our app which was good, it took the kitchen an hour and a half later for the pasta entre. There was only two of us at the table and the restaurant was not full. No one once came over and apologized for the wait. Anyway my pasta was not worth the $29. They forgot the peas and the lobster was tough and tasted freezer burn. I don't think Mario batali would put up with that. We heard the service is slow, but too slow for our taste."

"Learned of Pastaio by word of mouth....it lived up to its reputation as an unparalleled overall dining experience in this area of otherwise traditional, if unexceptional dining options. Across the board from appetizers to entrees to dessert, the flavors were rich and yet the meal overall was light. Our server and host, Brian, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The dining room is small and dimly lit with flickering candles so it is relaxing and quiet for conversation among friends, and also romantic for couples. I am so happy Pastaio is here and we will be going back very soon!"

"Great place for perfectly cooked, home made pasta. Limited menu that changes daily. The linguine with cockles was somewhat salty but the cockles tender and pasta al dente. The meatballs,a house specialty, were just ethereal! Extremely tender and flavorful from the addition of short ribs. Wild boar ragu over spinach fettacini was very flavorful with perfectly cooked pasta. Desserts mostly consisted of gelato from Laratorio Gelato in NYC. The biggest hit for me was the olive oil gelato with sea salt! Not for everyone, but if you are a fan of good fruity EVOO you will LOVE this dessert."

"An outstanding place for a plate of fresh, homemade pasta. Appetizers and deserts are also very good. Expect to relax over a nice bottle of wine while waiting for your meal. It takes a little long, but everything is cooked to order and well worth the wait."

"The food is why you are going here. The owner over the menu with you and awill eventually come back and take your order. I think the need a designated server and more help int he kitchen. The food takes a long time to come out. I do understand that we everything is fresh and need to be patient. However some peoples entrees took so long they ask to see the menu again because they forgot what they ordered. The food is worth it, just bring an extra bottle of wine to for the down time."
