Though not what I would consider a truly French restaurant, it was absolutey fantastic. I recommend the tasting menu so you can try various items from the menu. everything was cooked impeccably.

Food and service is consistently good. Bring friends all the time and I am confident Chef Michael will prepare a great dinner. We had last minute Guests flying in & was able to change reservation from 4 to 6 without a hassle. Changed reservation back to 4 when their plan was fogged in. The staff's attitude was so positive. Just a wonderful dining experience

Passionee' is great food in a relaxing setting. I had the seared Cod entree and it was delicious. The setting is laid back and relaxing. I also shared the lobster with pasta appetizer and it was also very good. It's nice to be able to get this quality food without having to go to NYC.

this place is an absolute find. the food was inventive, delicious and well presented--since his was our first visit we created a multi course appetizer meal and then shared a perfect* risotto--everything was flavorful and well seasoned--one problem--the air-conditioning needs a boost--

  • Went to celebrate my girlfriends'
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/21/2011
Went to celebrate my girlfriends' Bday. It's BYOB which is always nice (and attracts groups). We decided on the 7 course tasting menu, which is mostly chef selections from the regular menu (2 were courses were off the menu). Two courses were extremely salty. They could have been great, but the salt actually ruined it. Perhaps a junior chef was a little heavy handed? 3 other courses were OK, but not great. However, the last savory course and the dessert were outstanding! They really did save the night. The dessert was a sampling of their most popular and were incredible. All portions were huge! The staff was great too. Will probably return, just not right away. Order from menu, get dessert!

My husband and I really enjoyed our quiet, delicious dinner at Passionne. I had a wonderful grilled foie gras and an amazing cod over red rice risotto with beurre rouge sauce and carmelized shallots. I would definitely go back. Also loved that it's on a quieter street than Bloomfield Avenue, just around the corner from Egan & Sons.

The food is OK, the portions are small and somewhat overpriced. $45pp for Mother's Day brunch at a BYOB. There are much better restaurants in Montclair, but that was just our opinion, others love it.

We usually enjoy the quiet ambience and unusually fine fare at Passione. This time we were disappointed. The food was less than stellar for all four diners, and the service was ok, but not knowledgeable or accommodating. We are hoping this was just an off night. And one gluten free request was just wrong, so another meal needed to be made.

Four of us visited Passionne last week. Two had not been there. We brought French wine to this BYOB, but the food isn't really very French. We all thought the closest explanation for the Passionne menu is Alice Waters' place in Berkeley. Great, fresh ingredients, VERY artfully combined together. The result is sophisticated plates with lots going on (so, perhaps Chez Panisse is a bad comp). In fact, if you like your food flavors clean, clear, and single-dimensional, you may find Passionne dishes a bit too much. But, we are all the other type of foody. We loved the inventiveness of every dish. At least one of your party must get the Duck, Duck, Goose appetizer. And, I recommend the marinated raw tuna appetizer. Like eating tasty silk.

This visit was mixed. I loved the chicken pot pie made with "tandoori" chicken curry spices. My husband, however, had the pork and duck meatloaf which was not a success: too dry and the accompaniments undistinguished. Food here has continued to improve, had absolutely wonderful meal. However, I am not sure we would go again on a Saturday night. We don't mind an energetic, crowded restaurant, but the tin ceilings made the noise reverberate to the point we couldn't even bear to stay for coffee. Hoping they find a solution, but either way we'll be back.

The food was creative and excellent. The portions were typical of a quality restaurant- adequate not enormous- and the presentation on the plate was attractive and inviting. We were also delighted with the freshly made bread and the warmed dishes. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food and very pleasant. The ambience was very simple. I would have liked a more attractive space, but the important component of a restaurant is the food, and this chef does an excellent job. Also, it is a BYO restaurant and that needs to be advertised so diners are prepared.

The food was amazing!! I had the rabbit ravoli, and I licked my plate! The service on the other hand was aweful. We were 10 minutes early for our 9pm reservation, and they told us we had to wait. That would have been fine, except there were 5 tables open and stayed open until they sat us at 9pm. Our waitress, yawnes when taking our order and kept forgetting our water, never asked if we needed any bread and we didn't have utensils until the food came out. I have read a few of the reviews and ALL complained about the service, so when our waitress told us she has been working there for 4 years I wasn't surprised the service is so bad. The food is great, totally worth the horrible service, but I suggest getting some new help.

On a Friday night the restaurant was filled to capacity and very loud. As a vegetarian I was disappointed that there was not even the usual token entree; I had to ask for something "special" to be made. As a restaurant that sources its food, you would think there would be some thought to those who do not eat meat...but that said we and our guests enjoyed our meals!

Went here on Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. Nice bistro ambiance and magnificent food. We tried the five-course chef's tasting menu and each dish was better than the one before it, building to a crescendo with the deserts. However, the service was slow and inattentive. I ended up refilling our glasses of wine myself, and we waited a half hour for the bill. But feeling ignored by our server didn't totally ruin an otherwise amazing food experience.

The food served at Passionne was outstanding. For an appetizer we ordered a cheese plate with three different types of sheep's milk cheese. They were elegantly plated along with honey and cranberry, and tasted delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the pork, and also the potato dumplings with goat ragout. Both exceeded our expectations, and were well prepared. The pork was cooked to perfection and served with a delicious and flavorful risotto. The dumplings were also fantastic, as the pasta is made fresh daily. We were also very happy to see that the ingredients come from local farmers. Our server was polite, and informative, when asked about particular dishes on the menu. We were very pleased with the overall quality of Passionne
