Diner Reviews
  • "The food was wonderful, especially the Duck Empanadas and the Chicha Morada Creme Brulee !"

  • "Hostess not very friendly. Ceviche was great. Plaintain chips were recommended by the server as a complement and indeed they did. That was the most successful part of the meal. The duck empanadas, as well as the main dishes were only so-so. My chicken dish was definitely on the salty side. Service was average also."

  • "Great menu with more variety- hard to decide- all sounded great. Cocktails delicious also. Ample but manageable portions. Perfect lamb chops. Great dining experience and will need to go back many times to try everything. Impressive."

  • "Friday lunch but restaurant was empty at 12:30 pm. Food good but not delicious. Servers were indifferent."

  • "Fantastic food and fantastic service! FINALLY a latin place on this side of town - I would bring my Colombian and Costa Rican family here for delicious typical Latin food. Simply wonderful - it's mostly Peruvian but so many of these dishes are typical in most of Latin America - the tostones were delicious but were more actually like a tajada as the plantain was yellow - tostones uses a green plantain and you can tell because of the sweetness. I had the whole fish with seafood stew and I ate it slowly because It was so tasty - a little spicy but amazing - we also had the duck empanadas which were fantastic and my husband had the lomo saltado which he really liked. I would recommend anyone to this this place - only minus.. loud."

  • "Luv the vibe of Pasion. Apps, entrees, desserts and drinks... My go to."

  • "Not quite fine dining but upscale casual décor and menu preparing traditional and personalized modern interpretations of Peruvian and Pan-Latin cuisine. The ceviches are a must with so many fresh seafood options. Albondigas and duck empanadas are excellent. Churrasco and loma saltado are wonderful from the grill. Any of the fish or seafood options are fresh and very well prepared. You can't go wrong with rotisserie chicken with whole or half options either. A full bar features Peruvian cocktails including an excellent Pisco Sour. Short but sweet beer list including Peruvian selections. Wine list emphasizes Iberia and Latin America and pairs well with the food. Desserts are creative especially purple corn crème brulee. Happy to return."

  • "Food is amazing! Very different from other restaurants. Only complaint is that I've been there a few times now and the service is always slow. Servers don't seem to care about the customers."

  • "Never fails each time we go the food is excellent; however, when My main dish came out, the plate and food was cold A quick return to kitchen , few minutes later, all was good I try to pick something new each time. I believe the menu changes periodically Great "go to" of course LOMO SALTADO it's freaking spot on. I have to mention the ceviche.... So so good and fresh You can no longer order trio of samples to try , it's only the four sampler and with the four you can no longer choose the four You want- it's chosen for you. Still great ."

  • "I would very much recommend this restaurant. We (5) all enjoyed our meal. Great service!"

  • "The restaurant called me four times to confirm numerous reservations. The first time I change the time, the second time they canceled it and move me to a new & the third time The day before and day of, confirming the correct one. I think it was but much but was glad to be able to ask for a special Seat. I asked if they could seat me at the window and when I got there I sat in which was called "the window area" but not in front of the window which was disappointing!"

  • "I had lunch here on a Monday. The food was very good, but the service was scattered and slow. One waiter was there the attend to all of he restaurant. The service distracted from the very good food that ate, but which was brought all at once with one dish missing and which did not appear until we have finished our meal. too bad."

  • "Savory food and tasty cocktails! I traveled in Peru many years ago, albeit on a budget. The food was not good...in fact it was bad. We ate Chinese whenever we had the opportunity. The food at Pasion is great! Try the stuffed peppers appetizer and pork chop....and the pisco sours (we especially liked the ginger and passion fruit sours). The desserts are not the high point."

  • "The ceviches are great. we had the lobster and the uni. Also, the duck was to die for. The drinks were fantastic and the service IN the restaurant was good. Sometimes there's a little attitude at the door - but don't let that dissuade you. Once you're in the dining room, you'll enjoy every minute."

  • "The food and the service are delightful, but this is a place that, at least at dinner, one cannot hear the person across the table without literally screaming above the din of others also trying to be heard. It's almost comical looking around at folks leaning in and yelling through dinner. Enjoy the food, but plan to converse elsewhere."

  • "The food was delicious, and you can't beat $1 oysters and 1/2 off sangria pitchers! I ordered a (small) paella, which was great and the perfect serving size, as well as a side of the best sweet potato fries that I've ever had (that dipping sauce was amazing!)"

  • "Great modern South American food but service is spotty--10 minutes before drinks came."
    Dined on 1/31/2014
  • "Creative South American. Everything I have tried has been excellent. Very good fish--try Pescado a lo Macho, a whole deep-fried Dorado fish (you flake off the flesh with a fork--not at all difficult). Not much vegetarian on the menu, but if you ask, they will put together something special. My daughter loves the vegetarian paella (I know, what is paella without the seafood, but she loves the rice, sauce and veggies). Not cheap, but cheap for what you get--one of the best values in SF."

  • "We were so impressed with the service and team work amongst the servers. The food was amazing. A bit noisy but our table in the corner at the front window helped."

  • "The food was great. They have a separate vegetarian menu which I always appreciate. The drinks were great. We had a couple of the specialty cocktails and some classic cocktails and they were all tasty. I found the decor a little odd. Our party was seated around a corner next to a wall (even though there were booths available and it wasn't that busy) and the placement of our table made us feel kind of isolated from our server/ the rest of the restaurant. Otherwise the service was fine."

  • "I wanted to go on a spontaneous date night with my boyfriend. I found this place on Open Table's website. We were not dissapointed. The food was great, our waiter was holding down the entire restaurant and still managed to actually have conversations with us. We had a great time. We shared the mushroom empandas for an appetizer with mango salsa on top. YUM YUM YUM! He had the steak and rice (I can't remember the name of the actual dish) and it was delicious. I had the scallops with risoto and calamari. They were super tender and big! We shared the tres leche cake . Love. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We had dinner at Pasion on a Tuesday night. Everything turned out to be perfect - Food was great and service was awesome. The restaurant was a bit slow and we were able to grab a window table. I had wasabi crusted scallops. They are the most tender scallops I've had in my life. The lobster sauce was great and fried calamari was crispy and not oily. Our waiter Daniel was super nice and helpful. We had Purple Corn Creme Brûlée for desert per his recommendation. It was fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I did a reservation for 3 for my partners birthday. Unannoucedly my partner sister show-up at the restaurant with 2 more people. Suddenly one of the Staff told me that I just did a reservation for 3, I did explain to her that it was a surprise for me for the other guests to show-up. Well the lady did not understand and keep telling me about making the right reservation. I did let it go because I'm a educated person. Since the move the Staff service and attitude were rude. I'm from Puerto Rico, and my partner and her family are from Peru, but looking around, I think this restaurant cater and entertain others ethnic population better, and dislike latin customers who really know about peruvian food."

  • "Our family had lunch at Pasion for the first time, and it was outstanding! I would highly recommend this place to families, young professionals, college students, and gourmet foodies of any age. It's unpretentious with a very smart staff and a gourmet chef, three great combo for people wanting a memorably, delicious meal. The crab sandwich, the thin crust pizza, the skirt steak sandwich, the Latin salad, were all prepared with attention to quality and taste….and this is a casual, but chic neighborhood restaurant. Sandwiches were served with gourmet, freshly baked breads with a special sauce to bring out the best taste in the crab and steak…details were never compromised. Staff was very attentive. We will return!"

  • "Had a lovely brunch on Saturday. Waitstaff was great about accommodating a 5 year old's special requests. My eggs benedict was yummy and of course, the pisco sour topped it off."

  • "First - the good is excellent! However, the dining experience quickly diminishes with the slow service, and the overall loudness. Not an intimate dining experience for two!"

  • "Good bloody mary's and the Huevos Al Horno was excellent. A nice change from other typical egg dishes. Definitely a little out of the way from the downtown area but worth the trip if looking for something new."

  • "I like this neighborhood gem. I especially enjoyed my prior lunches there as the noise level at night was uncomfortable for me. Ok I am 68 and prefer dinner conversation not to have to compete with other diners. The food was excellent and interesting. I would highly reccomend this restaurant for a luncheon."

  • "I adore this restaurant and am so happy they have brought back their butternut squash soup wih I would sell a limb to get the recepie for. It is so creamy and delicious and seasoned perfectly. I say "if we weren't in public I would lick the bowl" but I think I did any way. I have been spoiled by the civiche here and love it so much. The flavored balance perfectly and the textures are to die for. Love this place!!!!"

  • "- the prices on the menu were twice what they are listed as on Opentable - our server was nice and attentive, BUT, when my partner made the mistake of commenting casually on a John Lennon sticker the server had on his notepad, he took that as a sign that we wanted to hear him list off a million Beatles trivia while we were trying to eat, which made for a super awkward date because we could hardly slip a word in edgewise with him, let alone to each other... - because of this, and because of the unexpected prices, we only had appetizers and left as quickly as possible"

  • "Usually when I'm here the place isn't packed, I could barely hear my friend who is a very quiet talker. Better place for drinking and dining together"

  • "Made reservations for a party of 5. When we got to the restaurant, there was only 1 other party, the whole restaurant was empty. We were led to a table for 4 and told they will add an extra seat to make it 5. We requested a bigger table because we know we eat a lot and wanted to share family style. Was told other tables not available. Thus, during the meal, we had to move all our drinks, plates to weird, awkward positions to fit all our food. Throughout the meal, 3 other parties arrived but still, more than half the restaurant was empty. Led to quite an uncomfortable, tight-squeeze meal. The food itself was okay, I would rather go to Fresca. Our waitress was nice though, gave great recommendations and checked on us periodically."

  • "Passion is a wonderful little restaurant on Irving. It has nice decor, great food and ambiance. It does get a bit loud since the place is not very big. Overall its a nice place to dine."

  • "The ceviche with fried calamari was delicate and delicious as was dinner. The beef was tender and was some of the tastiest I've had in awhile. Desert was also wonderful. My only serious complaint was that they brought my coffee about 15 minutes before my cake. It was cold before the food arrived. Service was otherwise good."

  • "We had a great meal. Our group of four split a swordfish appetizer. Everyone was really happy with entrees. I loved the Chicken Galena. Scallops were a hit, as was the steak. The tres leches dessert was awesome. I really enjoyed a specialty cocktail. Fun, relaxed, great service. Would definitely go again."

  • "Second try here. Trout and paella entrees were wonderful. Cuban Torta was a major disappointment. Too much "high" bread to get into your mouth. Too hard to cut in half."

  • "Pluses: Great food. A great fusion of flavors. I love seafood and the Peruvian/Latin spices add a great taste to it. I had the salmon with kale and mashed potatoes which was delicately cooked to a perfect medium. The appetizer was delicious (I can't find the name on the menu online, but it was a seafood paste mix with a potato roll colored with beet juice and presented sushi style) - muy delicioso. The seafood and chicken paella my friend ordered was also flavorful and even the half portion was huge! The service is good, albeit a bit slow. Minuses: Not a great date night place - too loud, and tables arranged too close to each other. Felt like the couple next to us was almost dining *with* us! Would be a fun hangout with friends."

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant: the food is superb! We didn't expect to be as pleased as we were. La Galina chicken is outstanding, so is the trout! interesting wine list. The service is excellent too! Our only comment is that the decor is a little stark. Some bright colors would help. Overall: a wonderful experience. We will be back!"
