A word from Parker's on Ponce
Owned by brothers John-Thomas and Christopher Scott, Parker's on Ponce is Decatur's first independently owned steakhouse. The Scott family has always been extremely involved in the local community, including local government. The restaurant is named after John-Thomas' seven year old daughter, Parker. The whole family is often seen at the restaurant - it is not a business to them, but a home - and they treat guests of the restaurant as family as well.Continued

  • "...is what is tops here. Knowledgeable and up front with prices on the specials (unfortunately not done commonly enough). The server comes by the table just the right amount during the meal. There is an overall warmth to the place that says "welcome". The bar looked like a friendly hangout and the appetizers would go great with a drink or two with a friend. The main menue on the other hand... If you're looking for a friendly upscale mid-range steakhouse this is your place. Don't expect prime or dry aged steaks. The meat was well prepared and flavorful. The kitchen does a good job in preparing a tasty meal."

  • "My wife and celebrated my birthday, as always, at Parker's on Ponce. Once again we experienced wonderful meals. My wife truly enjoyed the crab encrusted fish. My duck breast with duck confit fritters was absolutely divine. Their wine list is extensive and the in house infused liquors are amazing. Manager Tara and Server Mick are at the top of their game. We patronize other establishments, but to us Parker's on Ponce is our go to restaurant, because it is not pretentious and reasonably priced."

The fourth in the party was from Boston and tried shrimp and grits for the first time. He's hooked! Outstanding service, wonderful food, reasonable prices, superb wine and beer selections...   • "I chose Parker's for my boyfriend's birthday dinner because they had most generously donated to the charity I fund raise for and wanted to give them business for such kindness. I was absolutely blown away by the service, which was excellent, and the food, which was probably the best steak I've ever had in my life. The wait staff is so attentive and informative, my waiter helped me pick out a new craft beer I would like and thoroughly knew the menu. The food was absolutely amazing. Like I said, best steak of my life. Not to mention the prices were most reasonable, you would probably spend just as much at a yucky chain steakhouse for the same amount of food. Parker's is local and BEYOND delicious. Do yourself a favor and go here!"

  • "Did not quite live up to my expectations. The food was fine but nothing memorable. Great atmosphere and excellent service. With a little effort it could be so much better. For instance, the pecan pie covered in ice cream for dessert looked great and had all the right ingredients and presentation. The flavor was fine, if they had just warmed the pie a little it would have been so much better."

I sent two entrees back: The presentation of the trout was less than appetizing and the couscous lacked flavor. The bread pudding was still good, though. Although this restaurant was a reliable favorite, after last night I think I will try others before coming back."

  • "I took three colleagues from out of town there for dinner. The food was great: we had the braised short ribs, scallops, and the tuna special. But the waiter (who was very nice) over-poured my beer, so that the foam overflowed the glass and made a mess on the table cloth. Then our entrees were very delayed; the waiter explained that our order had gotten to the kitchen behind the order from another larger party. Then the entree for one of my guests was mistakenly sent to another table, so his meal came much later than the rest of ours (the manager offered him a bowl of soup in the interim). Then the waiter over-poured my beer again, creating an even bigger wet stain on the table cloth. No offer to compensate us for the problems."

  • "We went here for our Valentine's day dinner- a day late, but Parker's was still handing out roses to all of the women. He had the flat-iron steak and lobster mac & cheese. He was very impressed by the steak and the mac & cheese was his favorite part of the meal. I had the 6oz filet with a side of broccoli- both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waiter, Danny, was perfectly attentive and knowledgeable. The only downside was the tables are situated very close together, so it is not as private as some may want. Prices were slightly high in my opinion, but probably comparable to other steakhouses in the area. Would recommend for a date night or special occasion."

  • "This is the 2nd time we ate at Parker's, the service has always been more than adequate. The only disappoint was when I initially made the reservation two weeks in advance, I assumed I would get a nice table being that early. To my surprise we were placed in an afterthought table right by the entrance with my back to an archway where everyone passed going to the bar. When asked if we could move we were told that other tables were reserved, so I guess reserving early has no play. Plus my wife's seat was against the piano making it difficult to hear. I finally moved my chair at a 45 degree to hers blocking the aisle somewhat and moving the table very close to the archway, but it made the conversation better. Did I need to use Open Table?"

  • "We enjoyed the ambiance and our waitress was very helpful in answering our questions regarding some of the descriptions on the menu. For an apetizer, we had the bacon wrapped dates which were incredible and then we shared the Parker's salad which was delicious. We both ordered a steak since this is what Parker's is known for and then we experienced the only glitch in the evening. We started to get that feeling that our dinner was taking longer than it should and almost simutaniously, our waitress told us our order had somehow been misplaced but was in the queue and that Parker's would pay for our dessert. Once the steaks came out, they were incredible and our sides were delicious. Finally, our free desserts were excellent as well!"

  • "The restaurant has great ambiance, and the wait staff (i.e. Ann and the expediter) were great. But we were a bit disappointed with the food. We ordered a NY Strip for one entree, and it arrived overdone, but they graciously took it back and fired another steak. They got it right (medium) the second time, but the steak had no flavor. A little salt and pepper while on the grill would help. Our second entree was the Ravioli. A hearty entree, but it was based on pre-made/frozen raviolis. The menu is good, the kitchen just needs to work on execution."

  • "Went for Valentine's dinner. Crab encrusted grouper was dry, portion small. Maybe I should have ordered steak, as my companion seemed happy with her ribeye. Service was decent, as was ambiance, although the tables are a little closer together than we would have liked. Had to pay for parking in unsupervised deck. Probably won't try again; there are too many better restaurants in Atl area."

  • "We really enjoyed our Valentine's dinner. The restaurant was very busy and we were greeted immediately upon walking through the doors and since we had reservations we were seated promptly. My daughter ordered the crab cakes and they were delish, I ordered the pork chop, which was the only disappointment of the evening. The pork chop was dry and would not order again. We rarely order dessert and coffee but decided to do so and we just relaxed, talked and enjoyed our evening. Although there were customers waiting to be seated, we never felt rushed to finish and leave so another customer could have our table. Overall a very enjoyable evening. Will definitely eat at this restaurant again."

  • "We arrived early for our 9:30 PM reservation. The hostess seemed disinterested and unwelcoming; she was accompanied at the hostess podium by a woman (who we later found out was the manager) who seemed even less thrilled to be working at this restaurant. The bar was very crowded and it took 20 minutes to get a drink. At 9:50 my wife inquired when we might be sat. They said they were just sitting 9:30 and we were 8 tables back. (In other words, they had at least 9 reservations for 9:30?) It was after 10 o'clock when we were seated without apology or expression of regret from the hostess. Freddy, our server was fantastic but the food was nothing special. Good but not great."

  • "Recent Valentine's Day visit. Restaurant is divided into different rooms, which is nice. However, the interior section we were in was in dire need of artwork - very stark. From the time we were seated to when our server first greeted us was a bit longish, and it appeared that people seated after us were served first. Antipasto appetizer was very good. Then we both ordered steaks - my wife a filet, medium, and I a sirloin, medium rare, Oscar style. What we *got* was a filet, medium rare, and sirloin, medium, lobster style. Flavor was OK, but not great. Pecan pie sundae was fantastic. Server never asked us if we wanted coffee, nor did she ever notice that we did not have bread, as was being served at every other table."

  • "Since I have to keep it brief, here is the edited version. Cold air was blowing over our table. Asked hostess and then server 3 times to either cut it off or move us. ( Yes, I even asked this before hostess seated us there.) Air would cut off when I complained and then come back on a few minutes later. Server began ignoring us after 3rd complaint. All of this occurred before our food arrived. It took about 45 minutes to receive entrees. My side was incorrect but, as our server was ignoring us by now, took my husband flagging down another server to get it fixed. Asked to speak to a manager who never came. Finally demanded to speak to manager and got to speak to chef instead. I left cold and hungry."

  • "I am always trying to find new restaurants and came across some of the Decatur restaurants. My husband and I decided to try Parker's on Ponce for my birthday dinner. We were very pleased with the food as well as the service. I had the crab encrusted grouper and my hysband had the prime rib. The food was delicious. After the meal they brought out a slice of the banana fosters cheescake with a candle on it and the waiter sang happy birthday. The cheesecake melted in your mouth! (Yum) We had a nice evening. I would definitely recommend Parker's for a dinner night out. We will be back soon."
