Diner Reviews
  • "Our order, when received had a substitution we were not aware of. We asked about the change. We were told they had run out of what we had ordered so a substitution was made without advising us. My steak, requested "medium" came very raw. The waiter took my steak and did not return with it until my wife was done with her entire dinner and I had eaten (I was hungry) my side dishes minus the steak. My steak, when returned, was over cooked burned top and bottom and was subsequently very dry. I ate the steak by itself. At no time did a manager come to our table to discuss the poorly cooked steak. Overall, the waiter was friendly but not attentive. The food was not worth the price and the restaurant was very noisy. I would not go back again."

  • "the look of the restaurant is 1960's supper club, very cool vibe, but this one is special. It has it's own on-site garden. we ate inside but the outside patio dining looked nice as well, kind of romantic. we ordered the greens appetizer, very unusual and everyone liked it. the tomato soup was the best I have ever had - outstanding! my husband had the filet, simply delicious. I had the chicken which was also very good. our guests ordered the porterhouse and the NY strip, not sure they were as happy with those choices as we were with ours. waiter did forget to tell my husband that the green beans he ordered with his steak were unavailable but otherwise really attentive service. dessert was good as well. I would recommend and we will return."

  • "Very good food, service was excellent, beautiful park and garden area. Parents of small children should get a baby sister in order to enjoy their dining experience and able other customers to enjoy theirs"

  • "Park Ave. has become our "go to" special occasion dining restaurant. The food is constantly outstanding under the direction of owner/Chef David Slay. Who would ever expect a restaurant of this quality to be located in Stanton? But it works for us and inevitably always an enjoyable experience."

  • "Had a great meal on the patio on a warm summer Sunday. Summer special was terrific, and the bar and service over all were good as always."

  • "This is a great place for steak and anything veggie. Their steaks are top notch, cooked perfectly. The veggies are the freshest, a lot of them coming from their own garden on the property. Their dessert menu is short but everything on it is good, a must try is their in house made ice cream, that they make daily! Comfy booths, loungy decor, it's a warm, inviting place to have dinner. Their bread basket they start the meal of with is amazing, try not to fill up on them before your food even arrives! Definitely a place worth trying."

  • "We were seated in a patio area of metal tables with kitsch lime green chairs, though comfortable, on concrete adjacent to a lawn area. Would have been okay if not for steady parade of people/wait staff coming and going to the “il Garage” a detached dining area behind patio. Food was a disappointment starting with a side salad of limp iceberg lettuce with several pieces of radicchio ridiculously priced at $9 (a $1 McDonald’s salad would have been better). I had the pork shank, a little dry, but tasty on a bed of five small roasted potato wedges (grossly over-seasoned with salt) and a very small portion of fresh green peas. At the end, waiter had to record CC info on a blank piece of paper holding flash light because computer was down."

  • "Park Ave in Stanton, Ca, unbelievable great restaurant in the middle of a working class area. Our party had tomato basil soup, mixed green salad with blue cheese, lamb, swordfish, filet, lobster mac, banana cream pie, butterscotch pot, strawberry shortcake. Entrees awesome, wine awesome, desert awesome. Not one bad bite. Beautiful garden in the back. I am impressed with how large the property is, totally closed off from busy Beach Blvd. Would be beautiful for a wedding. Didn't eat at Il Garage, but next time for sure. Ambiance is lovely."

  • "Salad first had all the worst bitter parts of lettuce, but they replaced it with an excellent one. First swordfish was not cooked completely, but they replaced it with one excellently done. Gave me desert for free. Most placed do not make that kind of effort."

  • "This was my second time here and I really don't understand all the hype about this place. The service was very slow and considering there was only one other table occupied there is really no excuse for the slowness. I ordered a glass of prosecco and upon receiving my bill found that I had been overcharged. I'd already paid and it was only a dollar overcharge I didn't make an issue of it. The food was bland and average at best. I don't think there will be a 3rd visit."

  • "I have been to Park Avenue eight or nine times previously and had to wait in the bar area until our table was ready. The bartender kept having to find to find a clean glass to use to pour a drink. I stood at the bar and waited a very long time to get a drink because every time a server came with an order, I waited and waited. A lady came by to help him and totally ignored me. I probably waited for at least 10 minutes."

  • " As always the food is way above average. St Lois bacon on burger, fresh veggies from the garden, and seasonings are perfected to an art form. Pot pie is a special treat. Impeccable dining experience."

  • "WE DINED HERE (4) OF US ON JULY 5th @ 4:00 PM --- WE DROVE DOWN FROM MARINA DEL REY...OTHER COUPLE FROM LAGUNA BEACH...HAD RIB EYE, LAMB, PORK CHOP & I HAD THE SCALLOPS...SCALLOPS WERE DIS-APPOINTING COMPARED WITH "EQUAL" ESTABLISHMENTS...NOT PRESENTED WITH ANY FLAIR NOR CREATIVITY AND I WAS SERVED ONLY THREE (3) --- DAVID, KINDA SKIMPY ON THE SEAFOOD --- A MAN CAME BY --- ASKED ABOUT OUR SERVICE --- DID NOT INTRODUCE HIMSELF LIKE AT TRUMP THEY ALWAYS TELL YOU WHO THEY ARE AT TRUMP OUR SERVER, JAMIE -- WAS LOVELY AND WE ENJOYED HER SERVICE... I GREW UP IN GARDEN GROVE SO I KNOW THE AREA...AMUSING TO HAVE "PARK AVENUE" HERE AT THIS LOCATION BEHIND THE "ORANGE CURTAIN" WE WOULD POSSIBLY COME AGAIN...BUT, IT WOULD NOT BE OUR FIRST CHOICE.."

  • "The food was amazing and the service was very good. My only complaint was the noise level and the table next to us had a medium/large group with very loud children. I don't know why people bring small children who have not learned how to use their "indoor" voices to such a nice restaurant. I was treating my neighbor to dinner on Thursday night for all the nice things he's done for me. He and I were having trouble carrying on a conversation because of the loud young children - the parents/adults at the table were basically ignoring them. I don't know what Park Ave can do to prevent that in the future but it was unfortunate for myself and my neighbor."

  • "We went to Park Ave for our 10th anniversary based on a recommendation from a friend. She said not to judge by the outside (it a little tired). Glad we went! Amazing food and service. They also have their own fresh garden where you can stroll thru with your wine. Highly recommend for a special occasion or to impress business clients."

  • "David Slay has outdone himself. 3 different meals, all a home run hit. The service was excellent. This restaurant's dishes are consistently flavorful, unique, and well presented. My husband is still talking about the St Louis bacon on his hamburger. lovely experience."

  • "My wife took me here for Father 's Day because she knows it is one of my favorite restaurants and it is so special . As usual, her choice was perfect."

  • "Our visit did not meet Park Ave's usual standards. Our seating was a large table set right between two narrow aisles and the kitchen. Had they moved the table to one side we wouldn't have been getting bumped and pushed by passers-by. They weren't crowded so they didn't need to use that table. Our waitress needed more training. One cocktail we contemplated was made with sherbet of the day and when asked what flavor that was, we were told "you know, sherbet" and she couldn't be more specific (the dessert menu said it was orange sherbet). She couldn't get one of cocktails right after three tries. She forgot to take one person's order and basically ignored us: slow to take our order and bring dishes. Food was good, but pork steaks were tough."

  • "We were really looking forward to checking out Park Ave. My fish was excellent but the caprese salad with tomatoes from their garden that weren't ripe so it was lackluster. The reason that I will not return is that I told our waiter several times about my daughter's life threatening nut allergy. When he brought the bread basket, I asked him if there were nuts in the bread. He went back to the kitchen and checked - then he gave us the green light. After enjoying the bread, you can imagine how I felt to discover HALF OF A WALNUT sitting in the bottom of the basket. Had my three year old found that it could have been deadly. He said he was sorry but I just can't take the chance of dining somewhere where this could happen."

  • "Il Garage was a disappointment. Good service & a lovely garden view didn't make up for an overpriced, limited and uninspired menu."

  • "It was our anniversary and we wanted to treat ourselves to a romantic dinner. We had dinner at Il Garage and got more than expected. The scenery was perfect with the views of the garden, low candle lights and over the top delicious food. Everything was five star in our book. Excellent service, delicious food and romantic ambiance."

  • "My friends and I have been to Park Ave before, this was our first time dining at il garage. The food was great, although the beets appetizer could have used a few more beets - had we known there were so few, we would have ordered another to share. All in all everything was very tasty and the entrees were wonderful. We especially enjoyed having the salad greens and vegetables fresh from the PAG."

  • "Went here on a recommendation from a friend. At our table were three professionals, one with a doctorate degree , one engineer and one educator. with more years of fine dining experience in their younger years put together then the age of the person who waited on us. Two with fine dining managerial experience. One also had a culinary arts background. All except the engineer, knows the restaurant business "back to front". "

  • "Excellent atmosphere for lunch or dinner. Can't wait to go back and dine al fresco! Food is amazing, especially the homemade Chicken Pie. Take a few minutes after eating to visit the garden. Organic vegetables and herbs complete with a tour from the gardener Candice. "

  • "We arrived on time and were seated at a table at the entrance. The steak was flavorful but more suited for steak and eggs at breakfast. It had a lot of fat to cut out. It was a long wait until our side salads arrived, and then a long time for the main entrée. There wasn't any offer for more bread while we were waiting or a refill on the iced tea. No one seemed to care whether we existed or not. I have had better food and service elsewhere and will not return."

  • "This was our fourth or fifth meal at Park Ave. We enjoyed it very much, but the service was not up to what we experienced previously. Specifically, the waiter did not know his "stuff" very well, and he often seemed unsure of himself. He had a nice personality, and he apologized profusely when he did something wrong. But he wasn't the outgoing, knowledgeable server that we have come to expect at Park Ave."
