Park KitchenCharming Hot Spot in PortlandWe ate here for my husband's 39th birthday with a group of 6. Food was wonderful and the service fantastic. We sat in the front so we could enjoy the weather, love how the front is so open to a nice park across the street. We would go here again, we live in Kansas City and this restaurant was recommended by a friend. We all shared wine and small hot and cold plates then had a large plate to split between couples. Great atmosphere.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLet the staff decide for youWe were a party of ten and we opted for the small and large plate tasting menu. Each plate was mindfully prepared and the staff’s knowledgeable description of each dish greatly enhanced the experience. Each bite had an "OMG this is so good" reaction from the diners. Desert was an unexpected and spectacular surprise. It is unusual to find a restaurant where the desert so completely and thoughtfully compliments and balances the meal.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic MealEverything about the evening was outstanding. The service was spot on, and they were busy. The cocktails were well made and delivered timely. We had several of the small plates and left the table very full. The butter is amazing and made in house! Served with Ken's bread, it is amazing. We had a salad of radishes, snap peas, radish greens, almonds and feta cheese, which was spectacular. The asparagus soup was very fresh and tasty. The Virginia Ham with rhubarb is outstanding, and the salt cod fritters remained a solid offering. Perhaps the most interesting dish was the fried egg with frisee and anchovies. We could not have asked for a better experience. (There were several dishes that we wanted, so we will be back.)6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMINNOVATIVE AND FUNSat at the bar and enjoyed the innovative food and drink.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous in every wayWe love this place. The food is pure eclectic deliciousness, with an incredible depth and melding of flavors. The service is impeccable. The ambiance is comfy-cool industrial chic. In a word, Park Kitchen is inspired.
If you're feeling adventurous, or if you just can't decide which delectable dishes to order, we recommend the tasting menus. The chef chooses a variety of small plates (or if you're really hungry, a combo of small and large plates) and your server delivers them dish by spectacular dish to your table. The drinks are equally as fabulous, and the bartender will artfully craft a libation to fit your tastes. Park Kitchen tops our list of Portland favorites.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceFood was great - I had the halibut with a bed of vegetables and the chocolate tart. Everything just tasted fresh, and the tart was divine. Staff was extremely kind and helpful.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch overused phrase, yet OMG!We really, really had an outstanding meal. The service was truly perfect and all of the dishes were timed very well. We shared several small plates. Ken's bread & homemade butter are always solid. The pork & rapini sausage + beets & yogurt + cod fritters were very good. The radishes & snap peas + Virginia ham, rhubarb & peanuts were truly amazing. They way that the radishes & rhubarb are prepared in a variety of ways really impacts flavors and mouth feel very positively. I cannot sing the praises enough. We finished with a double chocolate tart with salted caramel . . . delicious. We also had cocktails, which were prepared very well. Truly outstanding!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWould love to try the whole menuSo many seasonal choices! This was our first visit to Park Kitchen and we had a hard time narrowing down what plates to order, but we did it and were thrilled with the results. Really appreciated having the plates come out as they were ready - food was fresh, delicious and just the right portions for sharing. Service was prompt, friendly and present when needed, but not overbearing. We will return!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat menu & foodI appreciate that the menu isn't a clone--my first course was a lightly fried egg with mache and fried anchovies! everything was yummy too5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFor groups tooI already provided a superb review for the restaurant on a prior visit. The small plate tasting menu is the only way to go. They will introduce you to dishes and flavored you probably never have experienced before. The preparation is absolutely perfection. I honestly cannot imagine more creative and flavorful combinations. The chef will challenge your pallet with fabulously unusual combinations if you choose the tasting menu. The drinks are fantastic. They also have a quiet side area for larger groups.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOld and new...We sat in the back room at a corner table. The kitchen was visible, but did not dominate the room. The lighting low and the ambience warm and friendly, with wood, copper and dark leatherette upholstered seating. The room felt like it had been there for years but the menu was modern.
My wife and I we shared two small and one large which was enough for us along with dessert. We had blood oranges with bacon, a house made sausage with sauerkraut and other things and a large order of lamb served with pickled cardoons and greens of some type. Each dish was a combination of a variety of tastes and textures, all well prepared. Nice place, good service. We'll go back.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMCreativity for allWe fell in love with the green apple and cheddar cheese soup with pancetta, and are trying to replicate it. Other small plates that were real treats included the chickpea fries, with the squash ketchup - the ketchup was better than the fries, a masterful condiment, the pork and rapini sausage was spicy and tasty, ans the gin marinated clams whetted our appetites for more. The morel stuffed cabbage leaves were exquisitely flavorful and the spinach fettucini and blackened salmon satisfied everyone. The mixologist whipped up a couple of cava specialties that pleased; but the flight of digistifs disappointed. Trying three different desserts, we left full and satiated.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant has a warm,This restaurant has a warm, welcoming interior and the friendliest, most helpful wait staff. We wandered in early for our reservation, thinking we'd have a glass of wine at the bar in the front but they were able to seat us right away and gave us lots of time to hem and haw our way through the menu. We had some tough decisions to make--everything looked so good! The salt cod fritters were amazing and the soup was (green apple and cheddar) was also delicious. Our entrees were great also, but if we went back I would definitely just work my way through all the small plates.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food there is totallyThe food there is totally unexpected ! The service was uneven with different servers, and slow to bring food and respond to drink requests. We still would recommend the resturant, it may have been an off night.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPark Kitchen has been in businessPark Kitchen has been in business for over 10 years. I had my most memorable meal in Portland there several years ago. I took two friends last saturday wondering if it could be as great as I remembered --it was. I can't imagine going there and not ordering the Tasting Menu. It is an unbelievable meal and extremely well-priced. The staff was friendly and attentive. They seem happy to work there and that makes a huge difference in the experience. The plates were bursting with flavor and we talked about the meal the next day because it was so memorable. I highly recommend Park Kitchen.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenal menu, outstandingPhenomenal menu, outstanding flavors, fantastic friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. Thank you!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Melding of FlavorsWe thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Park Kitchen. With four people, that allowed us to have a broader taste of available cold and hot plates that are very delicious. The green apple soup with cheddar, hops and pancetta was superb, the tart sweetness of the apple offset by the taste of the smoky pancetta; the bacon with blood oranges was similarly superb. The flank steak salad with greens and parsley was wonderful and generous. The large plate pork loin was subtle and delicate in flavor, with a vivid punch from the crispy fried catechione. And a side for the table of the chickpea fries with the wonderful acorn squash ketchup. Last, the double chocolate tart, salted caramel, with hazelnut ice cream. What a finish!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellentB+ or A-.
