Diner Reviews
  • "A perfect restaurant for a quick meal before heading to the theater of your choice. Happy hour menu is good until 6pm with a nice assortment of Small or Large Plate options. We decided to take a quick tour of their menu so had one of each of their five Small Plate selections. Everything was expertly prepared, artfully presented and tasted just delicious. The chickpea fries alone were extremely filling, but we still managed to polish off the additional four plates. Cocktail menu, beer selection and wine choices were all good. Plenty of wait staff, which was refreshing, and everyone pitched in to help everyone else so we felt like we were being taken care of by a real team. Highly recommended and will definitely return someday."

  • "Their appetizers were amazing - we tried the chickpea fries, bread and butter (crackers were to die for), scallops and carrot cake, pork terrine sliders...they were all delicious and the chickpea fries were a must have. Our mains were really good too, but not as memorable. The beef short rib was very good. The staff is very friendly and didn't even charge us for one item that we didn't enjoy. "

  • "We ordered a variety of small and large plates, and every one of them was exquisite! The service was likewise superb. It wasn't too noisy. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "I've eaten very, very well here, on numerous visits--seasonal, inventive but not gimmicky, deeply flavored food."

  • "Noisy next to the kitchen, food came out too quickly, the waitress seemed to be in a hurry. Food was amazing."

  • "My husband and I ate at Park Kitchen a few weeks ago for the first time as part of Portland Dining month. We liked every plate, every bite, especially dessert! We brought along another person to enjoy our new find while it was still the same deal.. Unfortunately, it must have been a different chef manning the kitchen. Everything (other than the chickpea fries) was underseasoned and only so-so - except the pudding cake which we all agreed was outstanding. We were all disappointed with the overall meal, but would consider returning for dessert - probably not for dinner based on the prices and inconsistency."

  • "We have only admirable compliments for Park Kitchen. The entire staff was helpful and knowledgeable. We got the small sampler plate and gave the chef free reign to surprise us; we were not disappointed. The food was in turn, sublime, unexpected, creative and thoughtful. Many thanks and well done."

  • "Came here to try the place out during dining month. It's more than I would normally spend on my (limited) budget, but the dining month deal was too good to pass up. Food was excellent. As was the service. Definitely give them a try next time you're wandering around downtown!!"

  • "We went to Park Kitchen to order the small plates tasting menu. It was fantastic the way they anticipated my tastes. The xarrots were delightful. The pana cotta was to die for."

  • "We had the small and large plates. Small plates were great! - but the large were not so good. Steelhead and short ribs were served at the same time with only a tiny plate for both. It's not an appetizing combination to begin with, but when the ribs are a bit cold and 85% fat, you don't eat them anyway. Fortunately, these were followed by wonderful desserts. It took quite a long time to get cocktails and a REALLY long time before anyone asked to take our food order. Also when the first mystery dish arrived we weren't told what it was and had to ask. On the whole, the wait staff were really nice and friendly - but service could be better."

  • "The location of this restaurant was somewhat off putting. My walk from a nearby parking area to the restaurant, at 5pm on a sunny day, was unsettling for a female walking alone. Once I got inside, the ambience of the restaurant is high end and cozy. The food was good. I tried 3 small plates, a large plate and a few house alcoholic beverages. While good, considering the cost and location I would not go back again."

  • "There were three of us and we split the Portland Dining Month menu as well as the small and large plate dining menu and we were just thrilled with the beauty and excellence of the food as well as the variety -- oh yes, and it was sooooo reasonable for such an excellent experience! My only complaint is the noise level is quite high so it was difficult to have a conversation with each other and sometimes to talk to the waiter."

  • "Love this place. The cocktails are amazing - my favorite being the Burnsidecar. I have ZERO dietary restrictions and was super excited to try the tasting menu, which did not disappoint(plated beautifully, too)! Great service and amazing food. I will be back:-)"

  • "We joined friends for dinner on a Sunday evening. The service was attentive. The seating was comfortable and you could have a conversation with others at your table. We tried almost all of the small plates and loved each one. Two notables were the scallops and the flank steak salad. We had one large plate that was the beef ribs. They were tasty but had too much fat on them. Dessert was delicious. We tried the panda cotta and the date pudding. We will return."

  • "We tried both the small and large plates. They were okay. The dessert was great. Staff was very nice. Could easily talk together so noice level was not too loud."

  • "The chef attention to detail made me feel pampered. The food was interesting, beautifully plated and I left feeling comfortably full and like I was special. The waitress took the time to answer my questions and was very specific about details of the dishes. We will definitely be back."

  • "We first dined at Park Kitchen during Portland Dining month, and selected both offerings. We enjoyed each of the items presented, and my husband was actually surprised he liked one... Going back again two weeks later to try more menu items. Highly recommended."

  • "In an effort to avoid the insanity of the reservation scene at the "hottest new" restaurants in Portland, we opted for a restaurant that was once hot but still considered hip and fit for a foodie. Park Kitchen was amazing! Delicious food - chickpea fries with pumpkin ketchup, lamb sausage, cauliflower ravioli, the shortribs - it was all perfection - fresh, lively, incredible flavors. The bartender was also mixing up hipster drinks. If you haven't been yet, get there and if you haven't been for awhile - go back!"

  • "I'd heard of Park Kitchen, but decided the March Portland Dining Month was an excellent opportunity to try some new places. (We usually stick to our "favorites") We got 3 courses, and each was delicious. There was a couple next to us trying a variety of dishes and it was interesting to eavesdrop on what they were getting and how it was cooked. It is not a big place, and a little noisy, but definitely a place to visit if you want to eat delicious, local food."

  • "First time visit for all three of us -- Portland Dining Month spin wheel selected Park Kitchen for us! Lovely setting, relaxed, caring & friendly staff, delicious food that was lick-your-plate yummy. We will return!"

  • "The small plates tasting menu is a great option. The kitchen selects three courses for you. I also asked the serving staff to select a good wine pairing since I had no idea what courses were coming. Service was friendly and attentive. The kitchen pays great attention to fresh local food and creating great combinations of flavours and textures within each dish. My courses were a parnsip and almond soup, beet/smoked fish salad/cauliflower ravioli with caramelized onion and raisins. My dessert was a buttermilk panicotta with pear, bourbon, and roast nuts. None of these were items I would have chosen on my own...they were each wonderful, and the sum was a wonderful, cohesive and delicious meal."

  • "Dinner for 3 was a spectacular overall dining experience! We had amazing service, we loved the small intimate feel of the main dining room that felt like you were just part of the kitchen and that they were cooking just for you. The flavor combinations were unique, intriguing, and delicious. One of our faces was the cauliflower ravioli - they were wonderful, but so were so many others. We shared 4 small plates and 2 large plates for the 3 of us and, given the nice portion size of many of the small plates, we were well sated. I would highly recommend Park Kitchen, especially a bit later in the evening when it is less crowded (we had an 8:15 reservation). Kudos…even after a 10 year run this place still has it!"

  • "We hadn't been to park Kitchen for years; remembered it as crowded. They at first wanted to sit us near the bar, but there were several young women close to our table, so I asked for another one. So glad I did. We moved to the back but heard the girls throughout our meal; luckily they left before we did. The cocktails were OK, mine (bourbon) much better than my husgand's. He had two small plates--one with anchovies and egg, and one with pears. I had a hot small plate with scallops. Delicious. Then we had the chocolate cake for dessert. The service was a little slow considering the small amount of food we had. Also, it's VERY small. I felt hemmed in."

  • "We love this place as it's small with fabulous service and we just love the tasting menu. You can choose small or large plates and the kitchen does the rest. And it's always more than enough food! The service is outstanding."

  • "Park Kitchen does not disappoint......from the service to the food, it is one of Portland's premiere dining establishments. Loved it!"

  • "Food was good, but not always hot enough, although we were warned that the plate was very hot, the food on it wasn't. Cauliflower ravioli, bay broth, sultana raisins, charred onion - very tasty but again not hot enough."

  • "Yum!!! We did the small/large plate combo. The only thing I the menu both of us really wanted was the short ribs. The rest of the meal we were ok with being "adventurous". The waitress said she could definitely do that. Each dish was fantastic and flavorful! The portion sizes were huge! I'm still full 2 days later! One of our favorites was this apple/kale/fassa salad. Who knew? Highly recommend!! We'll definitely be back with our foodie friends!!!"

  • "My husband and I have dined here twice now and absolutely love it! We have done the Small and Large plate menu both times and have loved the surprise. We are not picky eaters and therefore are always having a hard time deciding what to order. Each dining experience has allowed us to try new foods that we've never heard of or paired together. We love the adventure! Beth, our server, took great care of us and even allowed us to slow down so we could really enjoy the food. Thank you for another fabulous date night!"

  • "Went for my tenth time or so. Cocktails are wonderful. Can't say that I can recall ever having a mediocre dish, let alone a bad meal. Menu is always seasonal with excellent suggestions from our server. Love that I can typically go on a whim and get a time at or close to what I'm looking for. Great spot for out of town guests to experience outstanding Portland dining."

  • "My wife and I went there for valentines day. We had reservations and got there about 45 min early, We decided to sit at the bar for a little before our dinner. The bar tender and rest of the staff was very knowledgable and friendly to talk to. When we were ready they brought us to our table even earlier than our reservation. I had trout and my wife had short ribs for dinner and for appetizers we had flank steak salad, it was all AMAZING!!! The desserts were yes and no. I had some type of pudding or something and my wife had sorbet. Sorbet was great! What I had was not. Also note, we probably only have dessert like once a year. So we are not dessert people by any means. Overall we had a great time and will go back."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a special Valentines day menu paired with wines that perfectly matched our three courses. I had always wanted to eat here after running past it in the North Park blocks. Cozy setting and all of the servers were incredibly knowledgable and really made the evening. Can't wait to go back for their regular menu."

  • "It was a prix fix multi-course dinner, so there were not a lot of choices. However, we enjoyed every bite. For starters, we had a salad and "chick pea french fries" with pumpkin ketchup. I've never had anything but tomato ketchup, so this was a treat. I would get these again. My main was a grass-fed short rib. Outstanding! I'm not a beef rib guy, but this was like the best roast beef I had ever tasted. We had to box up dessert as we had another "dessert obligation", but the chocolate tart traveled well and was great the next day. The only ding was we felt a bit rushed and our server was confused about the wine pairing. Not great when dropping over $200 for a special occasion. But it was nice overall."

  • "The only bad thing I would say is either turn up the lights a little, or change the colour on the walls.trying to read the menu in a dimly lit room with orange walls was very hard on the eyes. But will defiantly be back, next time I wo t eat all day as the food there is fantastic and very filling"

  • "I've trekked from the Seattle area to dine with Anne almost from its opening. Service is surprisingly attententive for an almost full with an almost always full room. The food is exquisite with a surprise always thrown in. Once it was a blue nettle soup. Recently it was a squash soup garnished with currents, baked parsnip strips, a stripe of chive oli and house made pickled kumquats lingering underneath to amuse the palette. And I never miss the chick pea French Fries. Most items are gluten free and accomadations can be made in most places. Full bar and good wine selection. Noise level is a warm white noise from other guests and open kitchen. Most trips to Portland are arranged to fit diner at Park Kitchen. A destination restaurant."

  • "Nice food very good combination of flavors on each plate. Portions are on the bigger site. The lamb dish was delicious. It can get very noise so I would not recommended if you want a quiet place."

  • "We were on a schedule with a play to catch, but they still recommended the small plate tasting menu so we went for it and stayed exactly on schedule. Everything was very good, a couple of things were truly outstanding. Probably my favorite was the smoked shrimp. Also the desserts. Very professional, friendly and skilled."

  • "My husband and I came to Portland to eat, and eat we did! We both did a tasting menu to ensure we got the full impression and it was very impressive. My favourite pick was the chocolate torte, my husband really enjoyed the cauliflower ravioli. The food was impressive. The room had very sharp corners which led to a noisy time even though there was only one other table in the dinning room. That was the only draw back. Thanks for a great time."

  • "This restaurant gets rave reviews, but I must say we were not impressed. The food was average, and overpriced. The service was good but not excellent. I've been to Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn when Ethan Snyder was chef and it was outstanding, so was disappointed here."

  • "We loved Park Kitchen. The staff are all friendly and it seems like every one in the restaurant is helping to wait on you. We had the parsnip soup and the brussel sprouts to start -- both were excellent. Then we had the lamb which was delicious and the steelhead trout which was even more outstanding. We finished with the double chocolate tart -- WOW -- and the sticky date cake. It was one of the best meals we have enjoyed in a long time."
