Diner Reviews
  • "We were seated in one of the two dining rooms. The decor is beautiful and inviting. The food was delicious but the entree portions were on the small side. Our waiter seemed busy/preoccupied. We asked for a second round of drinks but they were never delivered. If I returned, it would probably only be to go to the bar side of the restaurant."

  • "I very much enjoy dining alone, but I've never quite gotten used to the way single diners are often treated. I was sentenced to the back corner-most table in the room. There were plenty of others available. I had to ask for a napkin & fork, then for the bread which appeared to be served to everyone else without asking. I also had to ask for pepper which was not on my table. The horseradish asked for when ordered, I had to ask for again. All in all, lunch was very tasty, the prime rib being somewhat less warm than I thought it should have been -- much like the lamb I had here at Christmas; though in both cases the meats were delicious. It's a pleasant place, I will give it another try. I'll come with an entourage next time. "

  • "I am very impressed with Park Central. The menu is varied and has staples that you are glad to see when going out to eat: Duck Confit, Lobster Roll, Steak Frites, etc. All are outstanding and done with a flair that is foodie worthy. This is a favorite place of mine, and I will return. The atmosphere is very welcoming."

  • "Great service. Very romantic setting. The buttermilk fried chicken is delicious and I recommend any first timer to try that. "

  • "My husband & I went to park central for a date night. Great food, but a little pricey. I had the mahi mahi, & my husband had the pasta and both were delicious. The calamari appetizer had a choice of sauces. I love the dining room! It's actually 2 rooms which really helps with the noise and you can have a conversation without shouting. The tables are far enought apart, that it is easy to walk around and you don't feel like your "on top of" the party next to you. We will definitely be back."

  • "I've been here a number of times. The food has always been excellent and their drink menu has some very creative and delicious creations. I've only eaten in the bar area. It's more energetic than the dining room, but it can be a bit loud at times. If you prefer a quieter setting, use the dining room. I'm sure I'll be back."

  • "Had an awesome crab cake and an incredibly tasty burger in the tavern last night. The live music was great! Really fun energy. My favorite place to hang out on a Saturday night...."

  • "Dined on a Saturday night with friends hoping for a quiet and leisurely visit over fine food. Food was indeed fine. Visit was impossible. Large groups seated on each side of us literally screamed and shrieked in what apparently passed for convivial conversation. When we spoke to our waiter, he apologized, to his credit, but suggested nothing--to us or our neighbors. We could not hear each other across a small table for four, and our ears still rang more than an hour after leaving. The tumultuous bar was quiet by comparison as we left. The restaurant is handsome and the food very, very good. But I don't think we'll be back."

  • "My son is in a program in New Haven and we were taking him and two of his friends to dinner in the area. My wife found this place on line. We were impressed with the variety on the menu and the quality and presentation of our meals. The food was excellent! We were surprised at how large this restaurant was and while it had a tavern feel when you walk in the other dining rooms gave a much different impression. The fact that they have tavern type food but at the same time a much more sophisticated menu was impressive."

  • "The menu looked great, and had some great looking dishes. Unfortunately, even though everything was good or occasionally very good, everything could have been better. Are places like this deified because the food choices in Hamden are so bad?"

  • "Everything about our meal Saturday was fine. I gave them three stars across the board because there was nothing particularly bad about the meal, but there was nothing to make it stand out either. Our server was a little loud and a little gruff, but was basically fine. We ordered the meat and cheese platter (the best part of the meal) and two salads. My iceberg wedge was good (actually not a wedge but to halves of a small head), but my husband's Caesar salad was bland. He left half of it. I will say kudos to the bar for two perfectly executed martinis."

  • "nothing better than a perfect hot cup of bisque on a cold day! every time i come here I always have, incredible, consistent service and awesome food. At lunch ask for, Raul, he is one of the best servers I have ever had. The bisque was the best I have ever had, the steak burger was perfect. I had to ask where they get it from in hopes that I could buy a case for my self. and when Raul told me that, chef Tom, grinds his own burgers, I was amazed. who does that these days?"

  • "Had a wonderful lunch at PCT. I was in a hurry due to work and needed to be in and out in 30 minutes. My server Raul was very hospitable and assured me he could get it done for me. I had the steak and frites which was fantastic. I'm a stickler about my steak temperature and my mid-rare steak was perfect. I was in and out in 26 minutes. Truly great experience and I totally recommend PCT for anyone who wants to be "wowed' during their meal."

  • "Food was overpriced for the quality. Can get much better tavern food at Prime 16 or Temple Grill for better quality, and less expensive."

  • "Good experience. Was hoping for more, but certainly good quality and above average service. Quality wine list and thoughtful dinner menu. Deviled eggs are a must. Fish tacos were a bit spicy...and I'm a fan of habanero. Very intrigued by brunch. Will be back to try it."

  • "Made reservations and when we arrived they tried to seat us at a high-top table in the noisy bar area, not the restaurant. We wanted to sit in the dining room, but they told us that the tables were all reserved, which made no sense to me, since there were empty tables, and we had reservations. The hostess told us that if we wanted to sit in the restaurant, then we should have made that request during the reservation process. To me, making a reservation in the restaurant, implies I would like to sit in the restaurant, not on a bar stool, on a small high-top table in the bar."

  • "This was my first visit to Park Central and it will definitely not be my last. My friend and I had mimosas which had a perfect amount of champagne ( usually I find that mimosas have a lot more OJ). We tried the sticky buns to start and they were fantastic! I then had the lobster benedict and my friend had the crab cake benedict. My friend said hers was incredible. Mine was amazing! Big, fresh lobster chunks were perfectly cooked (tender, not chewy) and the egg was also beautifully poached as well. The hostess was friendly and the waitress knew the items on the menu and was very nice-checked on us without hovering. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "My husband and I went to Park Central this past Saturday night. We went with another couple to celebrate a friends birthday. We made reservations and were taken to our table immediately upon arrival. Had a wonderful server - quick, efficient and pleasant. We love the varied menu - you can have a sandwich from the Tavern Fare or a lovely dinner. Our table was a mixture of both. Everyone enjoyed their dinner -- wonderful soups! Dessert was good too! We'll go back."

  • "First, the waiter, Jon, was outstanding in all ways. The menu was very intriguing, with wonderful choices, even for a vegetarian. However, the food we chose was not up to expectations. Both meals were overly sweet, and one was cold. The sweetness of one dominated any of the other flavors and components in the sauce (steak and fries). Next visit we'll try some other selections and hope for better results. The noise level at dinner was nearly deafening, with one or two patrons at the bar yelling over the already loud steady noise level."

  • "The food was honestly disappointing. Appetizers were too salty and the entree meat was tough and stringy."

  • "on Thanksgiving Day. There was a nice variety of selections; we especially enjoyed the beet salad and oyster starters. The turkey was very good-not dry or tough at all. The servings were generously-sized. The drinks were nice, especially a specialty cocktail made with a pear puree. On the maybe-down side, the main dish offering for vegetarians just didn't sound very good, and there was only one. We were seated in the back room, which is nice enough, but has no view, except they had the football game playing on a TV the whole time! No one seemed to be watching it, and it took away from the occasion as far as I'm concerned."

  • "We were a party of ten, ranging from a 13 year old to an 88 year old who doesn't hear well. Everyone was happy and some enjoyed not having to choose turkey on Thanksgiving. We will return."

  • "I am a traveling nurse and had to work night shift Thursday night, but my family drove up from PA to join me for dinner before work. The food was great (particularly rare lamb with horseradish cream sauce, and the butternut acorn soup) with a few small disappointments (cold "fresh" coffee and oysters Rockefeller served on a bed of salt that ruined it). Also confused by the somewhat fancy dark decor but extremely casual waitstaff. Overall a good experience, but I'd like to give the place another try on a non-holiday."

  • "I didn't expect much from this establishment when I walked in. The appetizers were good to excellent. My bibb lettuce and mixed beet salad was a little heavy on the beets, but good. My wife's beef tenderloin carpaccio was out of this world! Our entrees were lacked any bold flavor, but the clams in my wife's linguini with clam sauce were outstanding. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. I never intended to order dessert, but I'm a sucker for a good strawberry shortcake and I was not disappointed. A dense biscuit was loaded with gran marnier soaked strawberries and chantilly whipped cream."

  • "I went out to dinner with my girlfriend and her son and we were thoroughly satisfied with Park Central Tavern. The hostess gave a warm greeting and we were immediately sat at a table in their Tavern area. Although it was early for dinner (4:45pm), the bar had a nice crowd and the staff was very attentive. Joy was our server and not only served us with professional service but engaged in conversation with us and my girlfriend's son. The chef even came out to speak to us because we had to modify their Taco Tuesday special to meet her son's needs. I had the Rohan Duck and as duck lover, it literally blew my mind! We eat out a lot and Park Central is definitely one of our new favorites! Thanks guys!"

  • "The Bolognese sauce with rigatoni was exceptional. I'm still thinking about it. My husband had the special which was bacon-wrapped tuna which he loved. It's a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with a big city cuisine. Definitely will make a repeat visit."

  • "It took quite a while for our drink order to arrive. Each time the waitstaff came to the table with the next course they were confused on who got what, we were a party of four. After the first time telling the servers which dish went where, it got kind of annoying. I will return, the ambience is nice and it is a convenient location."

  • "PCT was a very pleasent suprise. Unfamiliar with the area, we chose PCT for dinner with our son on his school's parent's weekend. Very nice building, great attentive service and delicious food. The Tuscan Style Clams appetizer was fantastic, the wife loved the beef carpaccio. For entree, I had a delicious (and very large) prime rib. If you're anywhere nearby, give the Park Central Tavern a shot, you won't be disappointed."

  • "Always dependable, innovative American food without the hassle of driving into downtown. We've dined here a half-dozen times in the past two years and the meats, poultry, and seafood are fresh and done just right. Styles and sauces are inventive and top-notch. Service was high-caliber and professional. This night one of us had a scallop appetizer and perfect medium rare filet mignon with great meat flavor and cognac sauce, the other beef carpaccio and a scallop entrée with a gin/ginger/grapefruit sauce. We split an exquisite salad of heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. On other occasions we've had great drinks and desserts. We have strongly recommend this restaurant to our friends."

  • "I met my children for Saturday lunch; it was an off-time so it was nice and quiet and there was plenty of parking The sort of clubby atmosphere is nice. The food was good, especially the nachos, but there could have been more vegetables in my veggie salad."
