A word from Paris Bistro - Chestnut Hill
Located in the middle of Philadelphia's charming Chestnut Hill neighborhood, Paris Bistro has made quite a splash since it opened in late January 2014. The setting and food are authentic bistro - the crowd is lively and the menu is reminiscent of the many bistros that dot Paris' arrondissement. Downstairs, the jazz cafe features the area's best talent playing a mixture of standards, Great American Songbook classics and music from the Jazz Era of the early 1900's. Make an evening of it with reservations for dinner upstairs and a jazz set after (seating in the cafe is on a first-come, first-seated basis).

Diner Reviews
  • "This is my third visit to The Paris Bistro and it continues to be excellent. Great wine selection and wonderful desserts."

  • "My friends and I love this place, and we are running the menu--we especially like the beet salad, the duck confit salad, any fish dish, the steak, the cassoulet, and the rabbit. Waist-consciousness has kept us from trying any of the desserts, but they all sound and look wonderful--we peak at what other tables are having. Go and go often to this place--it is just what Chestnut Hill needs--we drive in from Center City"

  • "Very reminiscent of a French café. Food and service were very good and being from the NYC area we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonableness of the prices for both the food and wine. ."

  • "First visit. Found most positives that other reviewers have reported. Food was excellent. The lobster bisque was REAL lobster bisque, redolent of a long simmering shellfish stock, well seasoned (NOT over-salted like many) and with just a touch of cream. Outstanding. The Ice Bar - listed as an appetizer on the menu - was my entree. 6 delicious raw oysters, 4 very large cooked shrimp and a large bowl of ALL large lumps of crabmeat mixed with perfectly ripe fresh avocado. Server was knowledgeable and the restaurant appears well staffed but service was occasionally spotty - had to ask for soup spoon. Another issue was dealt with quickly and with a sense of humor. Noise is considerable. But it just feels like the place to be. Will def go back."

  • "Having looked forward to dining at this restaurant, all I can say is how disappointed I was. While the restaurant is pretty, that is the best I can say about it. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our reservation time, and were promptly seated at a table literally ten feet from the hostess. Despite this, we sat for 30 minutes without anyone coming to our table. I had to go to the hostess and finally ask her if anyone was waiting on us before the server came over and half apologized, saying she "didn't realize" our table was hers. Because we waited so long for our order to be taken, it was put in after several parties, and we waited another 45 minutes for our meal - which was mediocre, at best. We will not be returning."

  • "This is my second time here in 10 days--different guest. I really like this place--and it is a bit off the beaten path from where I live (in Center City), but more than worth the drive. The staff are friendly; they hover without intruding. The food is uniformly excellent--real bistro fare. The drinks are good and fairly priced, as is the wine list. One note to other patrons: this is really not a restaurant for children--Chestnut Hill has loads of them. There were two young girls at the next table who were annoyingly up and down, up and down, up and down as their separate parents just ignored them. The kids aren't to be blamed; the parents are--there are such things as babysitters."

  • "Paris has a great European inspired atmosphere and the food was very good. We really enjoyed it!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at the Paris Bistro. Service was excellent. Our food order was served quickly, met both of our expectations as to taste and was a good value. I had the lemon crepe for dessert while my wife had the almond cake. Both were delicious. I look forward to dining here again!"

  • "A local gem - fun, lively atmosphere without need to drive into town."

  • "Well suited for groups but over all , both rooms are too loud for intimate conversation. Menu was somewhat abbreviated but what we ordered was quite good. Slightly over priced."

  • "Very busy early on a weeknight, though not unpleasantly so. Server Jessica was attentive without hovering, willing to make suggestions. Food was excellent and portions ample; either appetizer could have been shared between two. Only complaint: tables very close together."

  • "This spot was especially enjoyable since it's in the neighborhood. Our meals were excellent as was the service. We arrived at 5 and were the first ones to arrive for dinner. By the time we left an hour later, (as I said, the service was excellent!), the place was packed and this was a Wednesday night! I would definitely recommend reservations. Our only disappointment was that we were unable to enjoy the jazz cafe on the lower level because it's only open Thursday through Sunday......next time! Casual dress is another plus."

  • "It's a great local place. We can walk, have a great dinner and walk home! The staff is wonderful and so is the atmosphere. I love the Warm Duck Confit salad. So yummy! And the oysters are always delicious."

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times, and it never disappoints. From the attentive service to the delicious food and drinks, this place is definitely a winner. Try the cauliflower au gratin and the crab and avocado salad. The scallops, although few in number, were wonderful. It makes you feel like you're not in Chestnut Hill but rather, in New York City."

  • "Our experience at Paris Bistro was both a delight and a disappointment. The food was wonderful, totally enjoyable. The service was excellent also. I was particularly impressed watching how the wait staff dealt with other diners, always with courtesy and friendliness. However the noise level was atrocious. Two members of our party are hard of hearing and conversation was almost impossible. I really hope that is a problem which can be solved because I would love to come back"

  • "Love this place since it's opened and have been here a few times now. Food has always been great; hostesses are terrific as well. This last visit though, our service was somewhat lacking. It was busy yes, but definitely saw our waiter with down time. Our drinks and water needed replenishing...we never got the drinks but manged to flag down the bus boy for water."

  • "The crab cakes and scallop entrees were beautifully prepared. Have never had better crab cakes among the many times I have had them. One small glitch with frozen goat cheese on a salad which the staff took care of quickly. The noise level is very high and a challenge for anyone who has any hearing loss to filter out the background noise and hear a tablemate. We will certainly go back."

  • "First visit was great. Food was excellent. Server was very good, too. Noise level made it hard to have a conversation, though."

  • "I would recommend Paris Bistro to those looking for a great new dining experience in Chestnut Hill. Everything was outstanding from top to bottom. We had oysters and the Jumbo Lump Crap Meat with Avocado as appetizers. Entrees were chicken and short ribs, both were delicious. A great spot and I am looking forward to dining there again"

  • "Had dinner with friends here on a beautiful Friday night. The staff was friendly, however our waiter appeared to be stretched pretty thin, though he was always very pleasant The food was good sometimes very good but not great. It is nice to have another viable option in Chestnut hill & would consider going back. My main hesitation is that the menu tries to be so classically French while not quite nailing it. As a result the menu lacks originality (trying to be classical) while also lacking the Wow! Factor of a true French spot. Lastly the portions are a bit small for the price. Chef's first place in chestnut hill "heirloom" has a more creative menu & is a better value, but Paris is still a nice addition to the neighborhood."

  • "We were seated quickly but then had very slow service at the start to get drinks, hear the specials and get our order in. After we placed our order, service really picked up and was fine for the rest of the meal, though. The food was delicious and the atmosphere in there is perfect bistro. I didn't realize the music would be in a separate space where you couldn't hear it. When they called to confirm our reservation and I asked her about whether there would be live music (and she told me the times of sets), it would have been nice if they'd mentioned that you can't hear the music from the tables downstairs where our reservation was. But it was a lovely evening and we will definitely be back. Don't miss the St. Germain 75 cocktail. Perfect!"

  • "skipped the jazz this time and ate in the main room. very energetic vibe with happy crowd. the average age of the crowd drops ten years every hour. food was excellent (mussels app, trout and cassoulet mains)."

  • "It's been 13 years since my husband and I have been to Paris - it was lovely to go right around the corner for a date night, and be transported back. The atmosphere was delightful and our server was wonderful. We started our adventure with a Rosemary Old Fashions and Martini de Triomphe - both delicious. The lobster bisque was divine. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the scallops, they were both prepared perfectly. Chocolate Mousse and a 3 Cheese Plate wrapped up a lovely, romantic dining experience. Highly recommend."

  • "Very authentic-feeling bistro atmosphere and food. Always nicely done and presented, welcoming staff and excellent service. Can be noisy altho it feels convivial."

  • "This is a find--a very, very good restaurant--real French bistro--with a very nice wine list (most wines priced between $35 and $50). Quick but unhurried, attentive service. Entrees also fairly priced and generously-sized without being huge. There are a number of restaurants nearby--some within feet--that are more family-oriented, which is fine. But Chestnut Hill needed a place like Paris. The only other restaurant for grown ups who want a fine meal rather than a bar scene is Mica further up the hill. Paris is even better than Mica."

  • "Paris is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The atmosphere is energetic and the food is well executed. It is very loud however so be prepared. We enjoyed the mussels, nicoise salad, duck confit salad, and trout. Good drink service and friendly staff."

  • "Good food and atmosphere. On a hot (92 degrees) day outside the air conditioning was not adjusted as the restaurant filled with patrons."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Overall a satisfying experience. Several annoying things though, there is no bread basket served unless it is purchased. A request to make an all egg white omelet was denied by the waiter, "they just don't do that" was the reply, not even an I'll check with the kitchen or I am sorry, that all the eggs have been cracked :). Substitutions of any kind were forbidden . Not exactly what one expects from a restaurant that is priced in this range. That aside, the food was well prepared, and very good. The seating near the front did not result in a noisy experience. The décor is beautiful. Next time, we will time it so we can listen to music downstairs."

  • "All 7 of us had a fab time here! It is long overdue to finally have a spot to enjoy some good food, jazz & reasonable & accessible parking that didn't require a trip into Center City. My only complaint is that the space is a bit small."

  • "We went to Paris bistro for my sisters birthday dinner. We had a great table with really confortable chairs. We started with mussels, which were amazing. I had the steak frites, also very good but could have used a little salt. All in all it was a great experience. We would definitely go back again!"

  • " I had been to Paris Bistro with my husband recently & had a nice time at the bar enjoying appetizers. My friends & I went back the other night &tried many items on the menu, & had a variety of opinions. The escargot was ok, but my friend thought the brioche tops were stale, I thought there was way too much oil. Pate was light and fluffy, others thought it was a little watery & too little flavor. Duck confit salad excellent, but by no means a salad unless 6 spinach leaves constitute a salad, Cauliflower comte was amazing, Cassoulet was liked by 2 out of 3, yet I thought the flavor was mild & it needed salt. ( hard time finding the sausage ) Mushrooms, Frites, & Macaroni sides were Great. Prices were fine in our opinion. Drinks were just ok."
