Diner Reviews
  • "Chris, our server, was amazing! The food was outstanding and the entire expierence was a pleasure. I brought 3 friends from out of town on Friday night and it was my first time to Parralax. It will not be my last! Everything was amazineg from start to finish! We arrived early and were seated immediatly and we were not rushed at all. The overall expierence was phenominal! Thank you for making a great impression!"

  • "Well to start off the night we were running late and had to change our reservation to a later time witch was not a problem. We arrived and out table was not ready but they made our longer wait worth it with a complimentary drink. The service was amazing they all work as a team there. Food was amazing as well. All and all this was a amazing place all around"

  • "Our server was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu and the specials. The seared Mahi Mahi was delicious and the spicy tuna roll was not that spicy. You do not have an intimate table experience as the next table is only approximately 8 inches away. Luckily we had some nice diners next to us. Also, using the valet is a must on a Friday night in Tremont."

  • "Everything was paced well, food was good. Just wish the wine was stored at the proper temp. We ordered a bottle of Orin Swift and it was room temp at best. Too bad for us."

  • "We had a six o, clock reservation. We were seated right away and were placed in the walkway to the restaurant. Ninety percent of the customers bumped our seats as they passed by. We had an appetizer and a drink. We ordered our entree at 6:15 and got our meals at 7:05 pm. We had dessert and we did not get out until 8:05 pm. I think they were waiting for our table by the looks we were getting but it wasn't our fault it took sooo long. The food was great but I think they were short staff...."

  • "We had been to Parallax before and thought it was fine, but not exceptional. This time we went and were very impressed. The food was outstanding and the prices reasonable. We ate sushi dishes for appetizers and it was the best sushi we've ever had. Our seafood entrees (mahi mahi and scallops) were fantastic with great blends of flavor on the plate. Our dessert (chocalate walnut tort) was decent but not at the level of the sushi and entrees. The noise level was energetic and might be too loud for those who prefer a quieter atmsophere. But it was a Saturday night, so we expected a fair amount of chatter. Highly recommended overall."

  • "Went here with a group of 6. Love the location, it's in a cute little neighborhood. The decor is simple yet gives a romantic feel. Our drinks were great. The waitress was very friendly. We ordered a ton of food and every single item was delicious . If you like sushi you will love this place. None of the 6 of us had a bad thing to say. I guess this has been around a while, but this was our first time there and we will for sure go back."

  • "The food was exactly what I was looking for a Friday dinner during Lent."

  • "Parallax was a great restaurant for all types of fish. I believe the bill was well worth the money spent. The entire staff was friendly and helpful for all our needs. The only negative thing I can say was being seated next to the kitchen. I will go back again soon but I will make sure our table is closer to the windows."

  • "Parallax always has superb food. There are many possible choices for salads, appetizers, and main courses. There is a huge sushi menu also and the sushi is superb. The service is usually good to excellent. This night our service was just good, but adequate. This is a Zack Bruell restaurant so the quality of the food is top notch. Would reommend to anyone who loves good food, good wine, and a fun environment in Tremont."

  • "Knowing the Chef was well known for his many restaurants we were excited for dinner, however overall disappointment. The salads were the best part of the meal, very different, fresh and enjoyable, 3 different salads all very good. Mussels quite spicy, even with server requesting a lighter spice. Calamari good, average. 2 entrees, Sea Bass & Chicken Thighs, both good, average. The third "entree" was a mix of two smaller things, Salmon with Potato Pancakes and Kale rolls with Quiona. The Salmon had sour cream, onions and capers all mixed, not great, though the potato pancakes were good. The Kale rolls were definitely most disappointing! Kale was under cooked for this dish and it was over-dressed with sauce."

  • "This was my second time back to the Parallax. It was a Friday night and the dining room as well as the bar was full. The wait staff was extremely attentive. It seemed that every server knew where every table was in their dinner, not just their own tables which was extremely helpful as they all were willing to help any table out with whatever they needed. Started out with sushi which was outstanding. Two of us split the chicken stuffed tempera peppers which were great. They even plated it separately for the two of us. All in all, an outstanding date night dining experience."

  • "A menu with entertaining choices, consistently well prepared and an experience that shows off Cleveland to out-of-towners."

  • "Our waitress took forever to acknowledge we were there. Once she did make an appearance, she wasn't very friendly. IF she introduced herself it was with a gruff mumble. Once our drinks arrived (30 minutes AFTER we sat, and 6 pieces of bread and glasses of water later...the bread/water guy was on his top game), we asked our check. We were not going to stay for dinner and spend our hard earned 200$ at this restaurant. We decided to take our business elsewhere and had a wonderful date night at a different restaurant :) The manager did chase us out once he found out what had happened and offered an apology. The manager's actions would be what you would expect at a restaurant that cares about service. Not so much for the server."

  • "This restaurant hasn't lost it's quality and vibrant scene. Great food and great vibe. Amazing quality raw fish and oysters as well as cooked fish"

  • "We dined at Parallax to celebrate our anniversary. Our food was delicious. The corn grit sticks appetizer was great. The cauliflower salad was scrumptious. We will definitely come back again. The wait staff was very attentive and explained the specials and entrees clearly. Wonderful dessert - we really loved the apple crisp with cinnamon ice cream."

  • "The decor of the restaurant was beautiful however the table placements made me feel a little cramped. You are practically having dinner with the people to your left and right. Also, the serving staff seemed both unprofessional and confused by the common request of the both myself and the guest sitting near me (yes, the seating is so close you can't help but hear the interactions of everyone else). When we first sat down we were greeted and our drink request were taken. Between 1-3mins after our first staff encounter two other waiters came over and asked the same question. I was confused and when I asked one of the waiters what was going on she said "we work as a team." hmm, if you worked as a team wouldn't you know what the last guy asked?"

  • "Tremont. Actually was easy to get to. Velet parking $5.00. Worth the hassel of not looking for a parking spot. This place was very nice. Not to loud. Sat in the bar area. Service was very good. At 7:00 was told they were already out of Oysters Rockafeller. Chef managed to make up one for us anyway. (The table behind us ordered 4 or this special appitizer.) Seared Tuna Steak was tasty and plentiful. The Pot Stickers were spicy but good. Would go back."

  • "This was my first time at Parallax. The service was good and food were both good. The focus is definitely seafood and sushi which were both delicious. Being a Tremont restaurant, the venue is pretty small. The tables are fairly close together. With a group of people, I think it would be fine, but dining for two, it felt a little cramped."

  • "We just had heard reviews of the sushi and we were not disappointed. The sushi was great."

  • "I went here with my boyfriend the weekend after Valentine's Day. For cocktails, we got the Pear 75 a gin drink with jalepeno, cucumber, and mint. Both were so good that we drink them for the rest of the evening, forgoing our usual bottle of wine. We got the mussels and the short rib pot stickers for apps. They came out in a timely fashion and were really good. We also got two different sushi rolls and the yellowtail sashimi. The sashimi was definitely my favorite. I highly recommend it. My only complaint, and its not really a complaint because I don't mind this type of atmosphere, was that the tables are pretty close together, and we could definitely hear the conversations on either side of us. So it didn't have a super intimate feel."

  • "Parallax has the best sushi of any restaurant in the area. Sushi chef Mike is amazing at what he does. I am always impressed with how fresh and beautiful each sushi plate arrives. His touch adds to the allure of the entire restaurant. Couple his experience with the charisma and personality of everyone from the host/hostess to the bartenders, cooks, and managers, and Zach (the owner) should be very happy. This is my favorite restaurant in Cleveland."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "The food was fantastic...you have a limited beer menu and the seating is too tight....I don't need to hear the conversation at the table 18 inches away from us...When we go again we will reserve a roomier booth,"

  • "I haven't been back to Parallax for years. We went the other night and had an excellent meal and experience. We shared udon noodles and sushi and everything was delicious. We drank some excellent red and had a very god waiter. I am looking forward to going back and really would rate it my fave in Cleveland at the moment."

  • "We went there for Valentine's, and all I can share are good words about this place. The service, specially, was superb. We had calamari fritti as appetizers, and then seared tuna (unfortunately, I do not remember exactly the list of ingredients, but that is because my bad memory, not because anything was not remarkable). The only little thing is that our table was too close to the door and with this weather, those are bad news if you are not used (I will never be) to this bitter cold. Otherwise, this is a restaurant to which I would definitely go back."

  • "From start to finish this restaurant "Had Me At Hello". It was a great way to celebrate our Valentines Day/ Anniversary. From the warm welcome from Valet opening the door, & Hostess voluntarily checking our coats to the delicious food & drinks. If you are a food lover I'm sure they will grasp your heart too. There is such a great selection it may be hard to choose. I suggest the smoked salmon potato pancakes, seared scallops with Japanese broccoli & pineapple fried rice, & you may as well end it with their ginger creme brulee. However, if your looking for your time to be intimate and or personal that may be a downfall depending on the time of your visit. The table settings are very close together."

  • "We went to Parallax for Valentine's Day and had a wonderful night out. The reason I gave the restaurant a 4 start review is primarily because we had to wait past our reservation time, which understandably because of v-day, it was busy. However, the waiting area is very small and with so many people coming in and out it things were a bit awkward."

  • "My wife and I have been to Parallax a couple of times and it never disappoints us. She got the hangar steak which was delicious, and I got the mahi mahi. The corn sauce with the mahi mahi was excellent. Many people like Parallax for their sushi, but I've found that the main dishes are excellent as well."

  • "The menu at Parallax is heavily focused on seafood, and their ability to prepare that seafood in unusual and delicious ways was impressive. The server was knowledgeable and helpful, and the environment was an enjoyable one. It's a bit noisy (at least on a Saturday evening), so don't plan on easy conversation. And the wait between courses was a little long--not a problem if you're there for a leisurely evening. They manage special dietary needs quite well."

  • "Wish we could dine here more often if we lived closer. We had such a nice dinner. Great food, great service and nice atmosphere. Wish there was more space between tables for a touch more privacy but overall wonderful experience."

  • "I marked on my Open Table reservation that it was my husband's birthday, and the host wished him happy birthday when we first arrived. Our waiter also wished him happy birthday and added a candle to our dessert. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious. This was our first visit to Parallax, and we'll definitely come back. I do like L'Albatros better, but I think this is my second favorite of Zack Bruell's restaurants so far. We've also been to Chinato and Cowell and Hubbard."

  • "Am I inside or outside? I spend the entire night trying to figure out why I was paying to sit in a restaurant when I was really in a makeshift tent with birch branches hiding poles, astroturf feel carpet, and heaters that were so strong that I got a tan. Hard to enjoy a meal when my feet were freezing and my head and neck were broiling. Waiter was ok but seemed a little too opinionated. He actually called out the woman next to me and told her that she was boring for choosing the tuna or the scallops. She wound up with tuna anyway and I got the scallops. They were floating on top of a gelatinous, light brown sweet and sour sauce (WAAY TOO MUCH IN THE BOWL). The pineapple fried rice tasted like a bagged mix from Trader Joes."

  • "New menu was great, this is without question the best place in Cleveland for creative fish preparations. The service is always outstanding! Zach was expediting, always nice to see the Chef/Owner working in the restaurant; unlike some other Cleveland cleberity that you only see at book signings and promoting themselves."

  • "I had a great meal with my wife, celebrating her 40th birthday. The restaurant was very quiet since we were a bit early for an already early reservation at 6:00 on a Tuesday with the temperature at right around zero outside. We started with the smoked salmon and potato pancake app and then feasted on a bunch of sushi. Again, great meal. Everything was delicious."

  • "Our visit lived up to the high expectations I had for this Bruell mainstay. As a first time visitor, I can say without question that the kitchen and service staff made traveling out into a frigid Cleveland night a good choice. While this is not a place I would go for a quiet romantic evening, it was ideal for a group of four looking to enjoy a great night with great food. Each of our meals were expertly prepared and almost as good as the sushi/sashimi we had to start the meal. The fish was very high quality and perfectly fresh. Cleveland (and Bruell) have many great choices and Parallax continues to deserve its spot among the best."

  • "Waitress was disinterested. Food was fair and we sat on top of the patrons to our left and right. Not a place for conversation. Waitress did not take any interest in explaining menu, etc. Won't go back. Lolitas, Dante's and other restaurants in tremont are much better options."

  • "Three courses for $33.00. A choice of appetizers (Sushi Roll, soup or salad), entree (Meat, fish or a vegetarian stew) and desert. We both chose the same three courses, the Sushi Roll the steel head trout and the lemon pound cake with lemon sorbet. All three were good, but not memorable."
