Diner Reviews
  • "solid restaurant experience - would definitely go back"

  • "The food was excellent. Had the pasta with seafood and my boyfriend had the pasta with clans. We both enjoyed our meals greatly. The only downfall was that we were there at 6:00 and they had already run out of a lot of their specials for the night. Overall, a great experience, though and I would definitely go back."

  • "don't expect attentive service - 2 in waitstaff and lots of bussers"

  • "We were looking for a low-key spot to dine after an afternoon performance at Lincoln Center. Pappardella was a short stroll down Columbus Avenue and was just what we were looking for- relaxed, plenty of room for a family and great menu selection from it's Northern Italian menu. The food was delicious, the service relaxed and helpful, even with a full house it was quiet enough for us to have meaningful conversations. Will definitely come here again."

  • "Must try their signature made pasta "pappardella" which has been served fro 30 years in this place. I loved the mushroom pappardella pasts with truffle cream sauce. Cheese plate are very good - amazing gorgonzola and mozzarella. They say the regulars in this place include Dustin Hoffman, Michael Douglas and other celebrities:)"

  • "We were looking for gluten free pizza. Haven't had pizza in years but this was not at all what I envisioned. Better to not eat pizza than to eat this. The regular pizza seemed better, although still not what I would envision pizza should be. We have been there before and ordered a veal dish which we didn't care for either. Unfortunately,. there are not many Italian restaurants around where you can get gluten free food. Service was slow as there were large family parties there where they got good service."

  • "Been there a couple of times and just great food. Also love that they have a large gluten free menu as well. Wasn't happy they charged the same twenty something dollars for my child to have a half a cup of gluten free pasta with a few pieces of salmon and veggies since it was definitely a lot smaller, and the service was slow (he had too many tables)."

  • "Decided to try this place out after walking by it many times. Glad we did. The place was buzzing (some might think loud) but we completely tuned the place out had a wonderful meal. Seating wasn't too tight which is much appreciated. Our server was attentive but not annoyingly so and had the warmest smile. Our appetizer (eggplant with a tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese) was phenomenal and well-portioned. Our entrees were great as well. My husband had the lobster ravioli which was fresh tasting with an amazing creamy tomato sauce. My papardelle brasato was also a treat but could have used a bit more salt. Overall we were very impressed."

  • "We needed a restaurant near the Beacon, where we had show tickets that night. The food was good overall, though the calamari in my spaghetti fruit de mer was chewy, and the sea bass special that night a very small portion, but friend said was tasty. The service was good, and the atmosphere was comfortable. On a nice night, I would ask for an outdoor table to do some people watching. Would definitely go back again."

  • "Good food, solid service, and upbeat NYC crowd. Great spot pre Beacon, or just to hang and enjoy Italian food. Loved it!"

  • "We shared everything in order to sample many things. We had five courses: Pizza, Salad, Pasta, Veal and Dessert (we also had the house wine served in a carafe). We were very pleased with every savory course we had because it was tasty (the wine was fine, and dessert was just ice cream but it was fine too). We will definitely be back."

  • "We have been here several times. They have a great gluten free menu"

  • "A friend recommended Pappardella as a great neighborhood Italian spot. When I checked them out online, they had fantastic reviews from gluten-free diners, so we gave it a shot. We were not disappointed. There was an entire gluten-free menu, including gf Veal Parmesan - I haven't had that since I was diagnosed with allergies almost two years ago! I have a dairy allergy, too, so I had it sans cheese and it was still fantastic! I ordered the garlic bread despite lukewarm reviews online. I'm glad I did. It was (as others have said) just a roll cut in half and grilled, but it was done with oil not butter and it was lovely. The full-gluten Italian was fantastic, too, so we both left happy with full bellies."

  • "It took over an hour to be seated from arriving for our reservation. Service was rude and slow. Food was good, but not worth how poorly we were treated. Should have left after the first 20 minutes, but hostess kept telling us they were "preparing our table"."

  • "Fourth visit in four years with spouse and friends. Just as tasty & enjoyable this time as the first. Ran late due to traffic, a call ahead was appreciated and table for four held; seated immediately on arrival. Busy room on Saturday night but moderate level of table conversation easily audible. Service personable and attentive. Food quality & preparation is good, with selections as described in the menu. My haddock could have used a little zest. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her pappardella with mushrooms. Our dining partners enjoyed their first meals at this venue as well. Nice wine list, can get pricey ! Overall, cost as expected for upper West Side Manhattan but not outrageous in the least. An enjoyable evening for all."

  • "very good prix fixe but did not receive $20 gift certificate as noted"

  • "We had a late dinner and found the menu offered a good variety of choices, several unique, along with pizzas and classic Italian dishes. The salads were huge, fresh and tasty. The main courses were delicious and arrived at the table very hot. The dessert (pumpkin spice sorbet) was excellent and enough for three to share. The wines were moderately priced for Manhattan. Service was friendly, but there was some lag time between the serving of the wine and the taking of the order. When we have occasion to be in this part of Manhattan again, we would definitely go back to Pappardella. Our other choice would be Isabella's, but the noise level there is usually high."

  • "Excellent classic Italian food with some delicious twists. They also offer an impressive and equally as tasty gluten free menu. We will certainly be back!"

  • "We arrived on time but had to wait 20 min to be seated there isn't a waiting area just a bar but it was packed so we waited by the door. We had the 3 course meal for Vday. I had Ravioli which was great and fillet minion which was not I asked for well done and it was rare and burn on the outside. I did not eat much, my boyfriend had oysters and a whole bass which was amazing. Dessert was a nice piece of tiramisu."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Pappardella for valentines day and I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate! The pre fixe menu was amazing with plenty of options. The service was absolutely amazing. And the food was delicious. We will definitely go back!!"

  • "The service was the best part. The food was very good too - especially the appetizers."

  • "We dined with friends on a restricted diet (one has celiac and needed gluten-free.) Pappardella has a separate glutenn-free menu. Everyone agreed that the food was very good, nicely presented, and hot. The wait staff was cordial and professional. We will return to this restaurant."

  • "We got to the restaurant early for our reservation so they asked us to take a seat by the bar while they got a table ready for us. The bar area was small and the restaurant was packed, but the wine selection was great and it gave us an opportunity to spy on what people were eating. The waitstaff was very polite and gave us a heads up to settle the bar bill before they were able to seat us. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the mushroom ragu pasta while my date had the chicken parm. Both meals were super fresh and very flavorful. I would definitely return."

  • "My husband had a parpadella braised beef pasta and I had the seafood pasta. We also ordered a meat appetizers with salami, prosciutto and brescola. The salami was way too fatty and the other two were just okay. You can get better meat at Whole Foods. My husband liked his dish okay, but the beef was a bit sweet. My seafood pasta came highly recommended as "the best" but was absolutely awful. The seafood was not fresh and overcooked. The calamari was rubbery and the mussels mostly not even open. The shrimp was tough and the clams were just okay. I would not get it again, particularly seeing it was the most expensive pasta dish on the menu. We had a ricotta cheesecake for desert which was just okay. Overall, disappointing for a Saturday night."

  • "Warm atmosphere, great service and decent basic Italian food makes for a great nearby choice to dine before a show at the Beacon."

  • "We traveled from Phila. for a concert at the Beacon. I looked for a restaurant nearby on trip advisor. Didn't want trendy, just good food in a nice place nearby. This place filled the bill. I had the sea bass special. Generous portion, perfectly prepared with a side of potatoes and fennel. Lovely. My daughter had gnocchi, obviously handmade, light as a feather in a perfect marinara. Service was good and not intrusive. There is a bar, but we only had wine by the glass. Would definitely go back."

  • "The wife and I were going to a show at the Beacon so wanted to find someplace to have a meal before the show. Being that my wife is a Groupon junkie, we found a deal for Pappardelle. It was a Prix fix menu but gave you an idea of the selections and quality. We each had an appetizer ( she's still raving about the Kale salad which was light and tasty), an entree, a bottle of wine and shared dessert. The food was tasty and the ambiance was laid back and romantic. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive without being smothering or making you feel rushed. We will be going back to sample a more broader menu. The $20 gift certificate they gave us at the end of dinner was also a motivator to return!"

  • "Food here was good, nice variety of Tuscan dishes, but the service? In a word terrible. Waitress was Inattentive and always difficult to find. Slow to take our orders for both drinks and food."

  • "Overall, the ambience of the place was warm, uplifting, and comfortable. There was little to no noise due to a late arrival. My girlfriend and I had a late reservation at 10:30pm on a Tuesday night. WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE. We were treated very well with servers not bugging us about our meal but happened to catch us when we needed them the most, refill for drinks, and yes the check. I would visit again."

  • "Went with a group of 7 friends - wait staff were very friendly and clarified our shared appetizer order to ensure it was GF for one of our party. Hazelnut gelato was excellent. Meal was served promptly and tasted great."

  • "The food at pappardella is outstanding. The ambiance is nice and it feels clean and welcoming. However, the wait staff and the manager were in need of significant help. Several parties had reservations and had to wait for more than a half hour after they had seated walk-ins (and then admitted to doing it to the 4 reservations that were waiting). The problem is, there is nowhere to wait in that restaurant as they have tried to maximize space to fit as many tables as possible. Understandable, but on bitter cold nights, it makes it a bit irritating when you have a reservation and still have to wait to be seated. The waitress was also not very attentive and made a few mistakes. However, all that said, the food at this place is spectacular!"

  • "The food was not only great (try the pappardelle with braised beef!) but the service was great. I was 30 mins late for my friends birthday dinner and they let her sit at the table and wait for me. Then when they were a little delayed with our apps, the bought us another round of drinks. I will definitely be back."

  • "There are alot of restaurants on New York's Upper West Side. For some reason I had never made it to Pappardella where I ate brunch the other day. What a lovely experience. The gluten-free menu featured the best gluten free pasta I've ever tried, indistinguishable form semolina. Excelent service, lovely hgh ceiling and very moderate noise level. worth a stop."

  • "This has slowly but surely been becoming a favored spot in the neighborhood;however, Sunday brunch was just not very good. The food was mediocre at best and the service was simply poor. Half the time the wait staff were not even visible and the experience level of these individuals was sub-par. We were really convinced that this is not the place for us."
