Diner Reviews
  • "Great as usual. Excellent waiters. They don't hover but service, but keep an attentive eye on your table."
    Dined on 8/24/2014
  • "With affordable bottles of wine, a wide selection of dishes and a completely thoughtful staff, this upper east side restaurant is a winner"
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "paola's never fails: we almost licked our plates clean like animals, as we always have here for years. you gotta love any restaurant that has as many specials as its regular menu items. and a restaurant where you've never had one bad mouthful of anything. it's always packed so make reservations. maybe you'll take home a doggiebag: i never quite make it to that point. dreaming of my next meal there...."
    Dined on 8/18/2014
  • "Food was great . Waiter was great and Wine was great. It was great"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "I've had lunch at Paola's in the past and it was quite good. Dinner was far inferior. The same meals that I had at lunch seemed as if they were left on simmer all day.... Dried out and rather tasteless. The restaurant is crowded and the tables are so close together you cannot have a private conversation. I won't be back"
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Excellent food, good service but VERY NOISY. Wine list needs refinement to include the better less expensive Burgundies and southern French wines eg. Juracon."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Our waiter was a bit chill at first but warmed up gradually. You can tell this is a neighborhood spot, not a tourist spot, and it's expensive but not as expensive as some better known restaurants to the south of it on the UES. The service could have been a bit less quick.... The pastas were amazing - especially the funghi pasta and tomato basil pasta dish. Ditto the Norma pasta. The veal scallopini was also perfecto! Enjoyed by all. I'd be a regular if I lived in that neck of the woods."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Love the staff, love the food. Wonderful experience every time."
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "Incredible Italian food - the mozzarella appetizer was outstanding. The pasta was perfect and the service was great. I just wish they didn't have the 2 top tables on top of each other. It can really make a romantic date difficult."
    Dined on 8/6/2014
  • "I am always impressed by the quality of the food here. The waitstaff is politely attentive without hovering. Paola is always on site and pleasant. As we told Paola on our last visit - we recently ate at a very high end World Renowned NY restaurant and we were disappointed. Paola's food is much more delicious and interesting."

  • "I enjoy the Paola's food and the quaint neighborhood. This is a classic go to place for me after work for meeting friends. Food is consistent good quality and service wonderful. The crowd is more mature and calm so it usually is not very noisy. Try the sauteed artichokes--they were excellent as was the very simple pasta with tomato and basil. Definitely will return and look forward to it."

  • "Very enjoyable and will return..All aspects of the restaurant were very good."
    Dined on 7/31/2014
  • "Excellent Italian---not your usual off the rack stuff. Wine list has depth but pricey---repays careful study. Knowledgeable servers. Well worth a visit---and a return."
    Dined on 7/31/2014
  • "Paola does an amazing job in this neighborhood gem for foodies. The dishes range across all of Italy. The ingredients were amazing. True Italian food. We felt like we were in Rome. Highly recommended."
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "Six of us recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Paola's. We had not been there for some time but we always enjoyed our dinners. We were not disappointed this time either -- food and service were wonderful. The service was actually better than usual because of the slight summer lull."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "I have had excellent meals each visit. Love the appetizers, especially the roasted artichokes and the entree menu choices make it hard to decide because they are all interesting. The pasta dishes are among the best for me as far as Italian restaurants go. There is nothing ordinary about the food or the service. Both show care and attention to making this a wonderful mealtime for the diner. I might add that the sound level is fine for having a conversation with dinner which so often is not the case in many restaurants."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "Paola's is consistently wonderful. The food is delicious. The people watching is fun. The waitstaff is attentive. Only complaint - the tables are too close together. Don't come here if you want a private conversation. But come here for high quality food excellently prepared and good atmosphere."
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "Perfect for adults who like very good food and want to easily conduct a conversation over a meal. Service is friendly and professional. We 'll go back as often as possible."
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "In our experience, the Upper East Side may have moneyed people, but it doesn't have great restaurants. Paola's, however, is more than adequate. It has a nice menu, decent service, a nice ambience. We got a table near the door, which was NOT great. We will go back, especially when we need to go to events at the 92nd. St. Y."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "We were a party of 4, they frequent Paola's fairly often and they were able to get a corner table making it a little less noisy than sitting in the center of the restaurant. Every appetizer and main dish was delicious and beautifully served and we all selected different dishes. We truly enjoyed our experience and the location of Paola's makes it easy for my husband and me to drive there and back from New Jersey. We will definitely be back and will be happy to bring friends with us!"

  • "Very good food consistently good. Wine list and prices reasonable for upper east side. Nice ambience"
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "This is a real neighborhood gem that deserves repeat visits."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "I've lived on UES for 10 years. This is one of my top 3 favorite Italian restaurants (in this price range) on UES. True Italian food both in preparation on menu offerings. Bar service was excellent. There was confusion with table service (guys who bring out food) but head waiter was knowledgeable."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "we are fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber in our neighborhood -- but would go anywhere for the lovely dining experience we had at Paola's. the menu is fresh, the food is beautifully prepared and the service is excellent."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "First rate food and service. Have been back many times and the menu is consistently excellent."
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "Outstanding food and service, and outdoor dining, too! Paola's is the best which explains the many waiting for a table...it's worth it!!"
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "One of the best in Carnegie Hill. Food was amazing...the artichokes & pasta were to die. Service was lovely and the wine list was plentiful."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Food was great, but expensive for rather small pasta portions"
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "Interesting Italian--not your generic menu. Same for wines, though few bargains on the list. Careful reading in less well regions like Sardinia pays off. Our waiter excellent and knowledgeable though that hasn't been the case on prior visits."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "I have nothing to add to my previous comments about this wonderful Italian Restaurant."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "The tables were packed together, less than a foot apart. Twice during dinner I had to assist older women with canes leaving an adjacent table, which needed to be pushed aside (by me and my companion) - no staff came to assist them. My water glass was empty most of the time. Twice I had to ask for refills. Repeatedly the staff reached over my shoulder, knocking me, to grab used plates and not-quite empty glasses. For these prices, they should be courteous and be more on top of things. The food was good but not amazing."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "This is where we go for an exciting Italian meal in an elegant setting. Menu always changes, so there is always something new to try."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Looking forward to an intimate Anniversary Dinner? Not the place...too tight and too noisy...but great food. So go with your taste buds and ear plugs."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "Nothing like Paola's for wonderful, authentic, Italian! Home made pastas are the best in the City! Now it's even better because you can dine outside. The hostess/owner/ executive Chef, Paola Bottero, is originally from Rome and provides exciting and delicious culinary creations Roman style with flavors from other great regions in Italy using the best fresh market ingredients. "

  • "Food is absolutely delicious. The only minus is the table we were given....next to the front door OpenTable should negotiate better placement for customers who use the app for a reservation."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "They were so busy, our reservation was for 8:30 and they did not get us in till 9:00; and then they had to rush the food -our fish was undercooked and I returned it for the pasta which was good. I have to say, this was not my usual experience there and it is a neighborhood hot spot- so I probably will go back again; I generally have a positive experience so will chalk this up to a bad day! Every business has a bad day and well, as they say- 3 strikes and your out- so if the tides are turning we will soon find out"
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "Best Italian food outside of Italy. They also have Gluten free pasta!"
    Dined on 5/26/2014
  • "Wonderful homemade pastas.friendly service. I especially enjoyed the pasta with asparagus and lemon zest."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Having lived in northern Italy for four years, I can tell you they do their pasta and other dishes correctly. Portions are reasonable without being over the top. Try the artichoke appetizer and the ricotta cheesecake cherry dessert is NOT to be missed. Not cloyingly sweet, but so yummy. "
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "A real neighborhood find. Everyone in my party thought the food was delicious if a bit pricey but, hey, it's Madison Avenue. I've walked by the place for years and assumed it was probably a rather sleepy in the evening. Not so. It was fully booked until 9:00 pm on a Wednesday night. My only complaint was the combination of the tile floor and the lively crowd makes Paolo's a bit noisy. "
