What a find! This lovely spot, with excellent food (I loved the grilled shrimp with corn) and attentive service has fair prices and is a warm and cozy (yet elegant) place on the Upper East Side. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals from appetizers to dessert. My cousin kept saying how much he loved his chicken entree. Really nice experience. I look forward to returning.

We have eaten at Paola's a few other times and this time we did not like it. The artichokes appetizer was oily and not crisp enough on the outside. The expensive truffles dish was tasteless ; were they real truffles? The duck dish was the best, a good combination of flavored and excellent presentation. We asked for a spoon and it took the waiter four minutes to bring us one. The restaurant wasn't even half full at the time. Then we asked for some salt and it took even longer to bring us a salt shaker.

Paola's once again was a terrific dining experience. All of the courses and the slected wines were well prepared and very tasty. We were seated for a 6:30 dinner. There was no waiting and the service was great. The staff made great recommendations and everyone really enjoyed a great dinner. Once again, dependable and delicious. Well done.

The food was among the best that we've experienced in many trips abroad and here in the US. There are many adjectives that would work -- superb, amazing, etc. -- but none do justice to the exquisite taste of the dishes that we shared. Everything was prepared and presented perfectly and the fact that my wife came back at the server in Italian endeared us to him, I suspect. All-in-all, Paola's ranked in the top five dining experiences that we've had in many years.

  • very poor pricey white truffle dish

My party of two was having a late-night supper following a concert. The menu mentioned white truffles were here (very late October) and I was moved to try the dish. I tried to ascertain from our waiter that the truffles were fresh and generous and would be served (i.e. sliced) at our table. Well, they came already in the dish and looked tired and barely had the transcendent aroma of fresh white truffles. And the dish was also barely lukewarm and very pricey--as truffle dishes are since truffles are a costly delicacy. When I complained, the waiter said the chef had already gone home. This experience totally obliterated what good could be said about our other dishes. We shall not be returning.

The restaurant was busy when we arrived. We were seated for about 5 min before getting any water. Waited another 10 min for our drink order. Waiter was very nice and was extra attentive after that. Food was just ok. A little pricey. Restaurant definitely needs to be updated. Probably would not go back.

We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and had to wait 30 minutes for a table. There was no waiting area other than the bar, and every stool was taken. It was difficult to get the bartender's attention for a drink. We had to stand by the front door while waiting. Once we were seated, the service was excellent. The quality of the food was very good. There seemed to be no difference between the half/portion and regular portion of pasta. Prices were a little high.

Paola's is a regular of ours and the food always lives up to our memories. A few gripes though......why serve hot food on cold plates....that's such a basic 'no-no' for a quality restaurant. The service also was slightly off......we had to ask a group of 4 waiters standing right by our table and gossiping, for the desert menu. However, we were seated almost immediately, probably helped by the fact the restaurant was less crowded than normal due to the holiday; previously we have almost always had to wait 10 mins or at worst 30 for our table.

First time at this restaurant. It was excellent. The service was attentive and the food delicious. We had an earlier reservation than we really wanted but in the end we were happy that we did. As we were seated and then throughout the meal, the restaurant became very crowded. It was apparent when we were leaving that many were waiting for their tables. Typically in these situations a restaurant rushes early diners out. This was not the case here. We had a wonderful and leisurely meal. We will be back.

We have been going to Paola's for years and have always enjoyed the food and the service. However, both were lacking tonight. My father in law's duck was not prepared well and was not edible. I asked the waiter to take it back and change it for a pasta dish, and was told that there was nothing wrong with his dinner and we would be charged for another entree. Since when does a waiter know if someone's dinner is good or bad? So, he ate very little and left hungry and dissatisfied. I think we will take a break from having dinner there.

I have been dining at Paola's since she opened at her first location on the Upper East Side. Not only is it one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan, but it is a favorite of my children, now in their mid-20's, who began eating at Paola's as little children. It's a destination for them whenever they are visiting NYC. The quality of the food has always been consistent and the service, impeccable. I am dreaming of the warm mozzarella as I write this...

While food was delicious the "special" petite strawberry shortcake dessert recommended by staff was overpriced at $15 dollars. The service was poor. Waiter never came by our party of 5 to ask about our food, refill water glasses or even ask if we wanted a refill of coffee. Ten minutes after half of our party left and napkins were placed on the table we finally got the check.
