Diner Reviews
  • "The trofie genovese keeps me coming back for more! Tastes just like the trofie in Cinque Terre. And the olive oil is fabulous…..with peppery finish!"

  • "Paola's continues to be our favorite restaurant. It is in our neighborhood, but we went there when it wasn't. How lucky we were that it moved a few blocks from us a few years ago! Now we can go even more often. When we take our friends for the first time, they agree with us. :)"

  • "Pleasant dining option on Madison Avenue. Outstanding papardelle, fine salad. Tables closely spaced."

  • "This was my first time at Paola's and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the grilled shrimp, which was a nice size order (six large shrimp) with grilled corn and arugula. The seasoning and dressing on the grilled corn was delicious. I was there with some girl friends and we weren't rushed at all. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The only negative, we ordered two salads to share and I thought the size of the Caesar salad was a big small for the price. It was, however, very tasty."

  • "Paola's food is always exciting, delicious and healthy. We always are happy there. Very elegant and varied menu with lots of seasonal specials."

  • "We chose this restaurant based on reviews about the food but I was disappointed. The pasta with tomato and basil was so/ so and not al dente, the bread was dry and the service was slow. If you want intimacy, go somewhere else. The tables are too close to one another so if you're not by the window, it feels cramped and there's no privacy. With so many fabulous 'authentic' Italian spots in NYC, Paola's falls short. Very noisy even on a Sunday evening. The only positive note was our waiter, an older gentleman who was very attentive."

  • "My wife and I have lived in the neighborhood for years. We always love going to Paola's; it is our go-to place when we can't figure out where we'd like to have dinner out. Even if all you want is a quick snack and a drink at the bar, this is a terrific place. It can be a bit hectic at night. It is a regular draw for the Carnegie Hill ladies who lunch, both the old-school version and the new-school, UGGS and yoga pants version, so lunch time can also be busy. But the bar remains a good place to collect if the dining rom is too busy. Food, drink, and environment are all excellent. I'n sure we'll be there again soon."

  • "Great menu and service. However, I had flowers delivered for the table for my wife's birthday. When the florist attempted to deliver them he was told there was no one there by that name."

  • "This is the first time I found service of poor quality they brought our entrée before we were finished our appetizer they did not clear the table of our appetizer dishes untill I asked. I would not go back for aSunday brunch again. Lunch during the week is less hectic."

  • "My friend and I so enjoyed our long lunch at Paola's. The service was outstanding and the food delicious, from the shared and much larger than expected beet salad to the excellent grilled shrimp plate. The shrimp were plump and juicy and the serving size generous. Our cheesecake dessert was tasty as well. Best of all we were not rushed out as we chatted the afternoon away. What a lovely afternoon. Thank you Paola's!"

  • "I was in a bar and a guy recommended Paola's and said it Was the best Italian restaurant in NYC. I can't sag for sure if this was the case bug can say the food was spectacular. Very flavorful, not to heavy, and just plain delicious."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "Paola's is near our home; so we've been quite a few times over the years. The food is consistently excellent and we've never been disappointed. A little hard to book a reservation, but worth the patience."

  • "Paola's is the place to go for Sunday Brunch, it is an elegant upscale neighborhood treat. I have had several sunday Brunches and dinners at Paola's and clearly it is a place where the regulars go. When I want to take quest out for a special meal Paola's is often my first choice. Table's for two are a bit tight and not the place for private conversations but parties of 4 or more will have room and a view of the passersby on Madison. My favorite upper east side spot when I am in town."

  • "I come from the UWS especially to eat here.. although I don't have far to go.. well worth the trip from anywhere in the City:) Discovered this place a couple of years ago while in the area.. been a loyal fan ever since! Figure if you're going to go out and enjoy a good meal, may as well make it a excellent experience and not have to worry about what you're getting regarding quality.. the food here is always exceptionally fresh.. has never disappointed.. and if anything, brings a sigh of relief to know no matter what I order, it will be what Paola herself ..or for her friends/family.. would order with certainty and confidence! Fantastic staff to boot;-) Always a great experience here and keep returning since I always Enjoy!"

  • "Food was delicious! My only issue was that we were kept waiting for our table just shy of 30 minutes. The manager was sweet about it and comped the drinks we had at the bar. Will return for sure but may rethink going on a friday night."

  • "I have been dining at Paola's back when the restaurant was on East 85th Street and then became a regular with my family at the East 84th St reet location. The most difficult part about going there is making a decision about what to order because there are so many great dishes on the menu. This time we began with the mozzarella, followed by the pappardella anatra, then the pollastrello and then the molten chocolate and zabaglione. Everything was so delicious that I could have returned the next evening."

  • "We have dined at Paolo's in it's last location...The Food is Very Good with Good Service. Was a bit noisy but the food is always a plus!"

  • "I love this restaurant with one exception. Each time I go, I make the reservation through Open Table. In the comments section I ask for a Window table or a table in a corner of the restaurant that I like. But it is NEVER honored and I get the excuse that "if we're busy" we cannot always accommodate you." Why do I make a reservation? What is that excuse--if we're too busy? I'm part of that busy. There were two men who were seated next to us on the banquette and they were moved to the table we asked for. I love the restaurant, for its food, decor and service, but this is really getting on my last nerve"

  • "This is close to our office and apt, but I never tried it before. So glad I finally did. It was excellent - everything form tender veal scallopini to delectable artichokes and out of this world pasta. Ambience was lively but we could hear ourselves talk, service was attentive but not obtrusive. I wouldn't come all the way across town to go here, but if you live nearby you really must try it."

  • "Not expecting to find such a gem late on New Year's Day. But, OH MY, did we ever pick a winner! My lady and I were bowled over by the incredible food, ambience and attentive staff. Their home-made pasta was as good as ANYTHING we've ever had in Italy (or China, for that matter, where Marco Polo found it to begin with). Be sure to make this a regular stop, as we intend to on every visit to New York1"

  • "Always a joy to have an excuse to go to Paola's for dinner. Staying nearby year after year - Paola's is the highlight of local Carnegie Hill spots for supper. Endlessly delicious, perfect lighter (unless you choose heavy dishes) Italian menu - and a great wine list. Seafoods, salads & breads perfect... I could go on and on. Just go - impossible to be disappointed - but Saturdays' are crowded!"

  • "This was a great find for me to take a client out for dinner. The food was great and the service was speedy. I felt like the appetizers came out only a few minutes before our entree's. I would have preferred a more casual dining experience where it relates to time. The staff was all very professional and knowledgeable in regards to the menu. I would definitely try this restaurant again."

  • "I was on my own - did not feel rushed - had two appetizers and a poached pear - all delicious. The coffee was excellent as well. The service was friendly and unobtrusive and even though it was busy it felt friendly and warm. It was an outstanding experience - not something I normally find when traveling on business on my own. I'm looking forward to going back."

  • "This is a gem of a restaurant. This is my fourth time there since it was recommended to me and it has not disappointed yet. The food is so authentically Italian. Properly seasoned, excellently prepared, very varied menu. Pastas are cooked to perfection. One very often wants a simple salad, just greens with a good dressing. They have it with a few slices of parmigiano. Perfect starter (and no extra dressing on the plate-an art not often seen in America) to my pasta genovesi (also prepared perfectly). Service is great. Pricey, but worth it."

  • "The staff was so attentive and we enjoyed our lunch. Food was good - not fabulous - a $28 scallop dish had only two - pretty skimpy. My friend's duck - which she asked for 'medium' was overcooked . Lovely interior, bright and sunny. All in all, a nice experience"

  • "My son and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here last Sunday night. The restaurant was not full so it was quiet, I can't speak for the noise level if it were busy. More importantly, the food was delicious. We started with roasted baby artichokes that we shared along with the wonderful bread trio that they serve with olive oil. We ate every last bite. We each chose our own pastas; I had the wide ribbons with boar ragu. I have had this dish at Lupa many times and I believe it was much better here. My son had the pasta with vongole clams and it was also quite delicious. We ended with poached pears and profiteroles which were perfect along with some capuccino. The service was very attentive and professional. I can't wait to go back."
