This is a wonderful place to find on the upper east side. No pretensions, just great service, friendly faces and comfortable surroundings, not to mention a menu with enough variety that you can bring anyone and continue to go back and re-vist many times.

Paola's is a regular of ours and the food always lives up to our memories. A few gripes though......why serve hot food on cold plates....that's such a basic 'no-no' for a quality restaurant. The service also was slightly off......we had to ask a group of 4 waiters standing right by our table and gossiping, for the desert menu. However, we were seated almost immediately, probably helped by the fact the restaurant was less crowded than normal due to the holiday; previously we have almost always had to wait 10 mins or at worst 30 for our table.

First time at this restaurant. It was excellent. The service was attentive and the food delicious. We had an earlier reservation than we really wanted but in the end we were happy that we did. As we were seated and then throughout the meal, the restaurant became very crowded. It was apparent when we were leaving that many were waiting for their tables. Typically in these situations a restaurant rushes early diners out. This was not the case here. We had a wonderful and leisurely meal. We will be back.

We have been going to Paola's for years and have always enjoyed the food and the service. However, both were lacking tonight. My father in law's duck was not prepared well and was not edible. I asked the waiter to take it back and change it for a pasta dish, and was told that there was nothing wrong with his dinner and we would be charged for another entree. Since when does a waiter know if someone's dinner is good or bad? So, he ate very little and left hungry and dissatisfied. I think we will take a break from having dinner there.

I have been dining at Paola's since she opened at her first location on the Upper East Side. Not only is it one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan, but it is a favorite of my children, now in their mid-20's, who began eating at Paola's as little children. It's a destination for them whenever they are visiting NYC. The quality of the food has always been consistent and the service, impeccable. I am dreaming of the warm mozzarella as I write this...

While food was delicious the "special" petite strawberry shortcake dessert recommended by staff was overpriced at $15 dollars. The service was poor. Waiter never came by our party of 5 to ask about our food, refill water glasses or even ask if we wanted a refill of coffee. Ten minutes after half of our party left and napkins were placed on the table we finally got the check.

Our waiter was a bit chill at first but warmed up gradually. You can tell this is a neighborhood spot, not a tourist spot, and it's expensive but not as expensive as some better known restaurants to the south of it on the UES. The service could have been a bit less quick.... The pastas were amazing - especially the funghi pasta and tomato basil pasta dish. Ditto the Norma pasta. The veal scallopini was also perfecto! Enjoyed by all. I'd be a regular if I lived in that neck of the woods.

I enjoy the Paola's food and the quaint neighborhood. This is a classic go to place for me after work for meeting friends. Food is consistent good quality and service wonderful. The crowd is more mature and calm so it usually is not very noisy. Try the sauteed artichokes--they were excellent as was the very simple pasta with tomato and basil. Definitely will return and look forward to it.

I have had excellent meals each visit. Love the appetizers, especially the roasted artichokes and the entree menu choices make it hard to decide because they are all interesting. The pasta dishes are among the best for me as far as Italian restaurants go. There is nothing ordinary about the food or the service. Both show care and attention to making this a wonderful mealtime for the diner. I might add that the sound level is fine for having a conversation with dinner which so often is not the case in many restaurants.
