Diner Reviews
  • "We checked out places in Old City using Open Table, but found few offering many vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. My friend and I ate indoors on this hot June evening, despite no air-conditioning and ample seating in the shade on the sidewalk, because we desired to chat quietly. The wait staff, abundantly solicitous, suggested we not order appetizer salads as the main course came with a salad. Our entrees arrived tastefully prepared and appropriately hot in temperature. Although its BYOB, we each received a complimentary glass of wine. We shared a delicious lemon marscapone cake for dessert. I would definitely return here, with some advance strategic planning based on the daytime temperature/humidity and conversation needs."

  • "Nice informal spot-eager staff, maybe kitchen not up to par. Specifically requested the homemade pasta as our entree. Were served dried pasta. Staff inferred problems in kitchen......."

  • "I used to come here for lunch when I worked at a nearby theatre. It was delicious and affordable then, and nothing has changed. They accommodated our group last minute for a celebration with friends and were very nice and excited to have us. They talked about the menu with us and kept our wine and champagne glasses full. Thank goodness we brought all those bottles. No corking fee. Has some good vegetarian options and a large menu. We had the grilled calamari for appetizers and then each ordered an entree, then we all split desserts. We each tried everything. Nothing wasn't delicious, but the gnocchi were a standout as were all of the desserts. I'll be back there again soon. Thank you for making such a special night so much better. "

  • "First of all, who doesn't love a BYOB restaurant? It was hard (if not impossible) reserving a table for a big party in old city five days beforehand. Luckily I found this place. It's pretty small and a little cramped. The food was okay, not extraordinary. And the servers were nice given that our party was an hour late and we stayed past their closing time. "

  • "This place was fabulous! Wonderful fresh and delicious, and the service was outstanding. It's our new favorite restaurant."

  • "We had a long weekend in Philly with a group of 6 family members - including teenagers with not very adventurous palates. This place fit the bill. The staff worked hard but seemed to be somewhat novices. Menu ranged from spaghetti and meatballs to a seafood pesce with calimari which was pretty well done. Prices were reasonable. Located in the old city so easily walkable. "

  • "We had the fried calamari appetizer, the linguini alfredo with shrimp and eggplant parm. The shrimp were outstanding, and the alfredo sauce was rich but not overly creamy. The eggplant, however, was so tough and stringy I had to saw through it with a knife. Seriously. It was awful."

  • "I frequently visit when I have a taste for good food in a quaint charming atmosphere. It's one of my favorite restaurants."

  • "The staff is all a little off and for an Italian restaurant the waitress was not verse in the Italian menu lingo. The head waiter would check in on us every 30 seconds or so even when we didnt have our food and made it a point to find out who ordered the Sea Bass to relay to the chef, which was odd. The food ended up being very good so would definitely go back."

  • "The service was great since we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night. An employee was constantly fiddling loudly with the reservation computer making annoying tapping noises throughout our entire meal. The food was average at best but the waiter was very friendly."

  • "Good food in a cozy environment. Very small so great if you want to get away from the noise of the city. The food is very good and the staff very friendly...feels like home"

  • "I can't give a fair review of Panini's because when we got there, they had our reservation but did not have a table for us. They apologized but had no feasible solution except for us to wait. With a long wait for us, we decided to go somewhere else. Looked like a nice place but be warey of making reservations if you need a definite plan!"

  • "We had the worst service imaginable when we went for a Valentines day dinner. There is too much to even really detail but to give you an idea no one came by to take our order for over an hour and no one around us were receiving any food. The waiter was unprepared and I would never go back."

  • "we showed up on valentine's day with a 9 p.m. reservation in hand. When we arrived they said it would be 30-40 minutes. That defeats the point of a reservation. We ended up going to Stella Rossa."

  • "My husband and I were spending the weekend in Philly and were not familiar with places to eat. We chose Panini's because it was nearby the museum we were visiting. What a wonderful suprise. We enjoyed the food very much. But most of all we enjoyed Keith, He made our lunch a lot of fun! I have already passed the restaurant on to friends who will be visiting Philly next month!"

  • "Panini's was not up to par on this evening. The bread was cold, dry and served with frozen solid butter (no olive oil?...) we all ordered the same salad yet each salad was different; some with tomatoes, some with croutons and some with nothing but poorly flavored greens. The entrees didn't come as advertised but with different pasta i.e. spaghetti instead of fusilli, etc. and they didn't let us know this ahead of time. Overall- we were underwhelmed. We won't go here again."

  • "I had a simple wrap that was pretty good but the other 5 members of my party were disappointed with their meals. We basically ordered 3 wraps and 3 paninis but it took forever and 4 of the 6 were cold. Lastly, and maybe it was just a bad batch but the unsweetened Iced Tea tasted like a dish rag. Just saying! We won't be going back."

  • "The food was great. The waitresses however may need a brushing up on manners and how to talk to patrons. Would love to come back for lunch, hear its awesome. Just felt like we were a bother to the waitresses.."

  • "For oversized portions, moderately priced, and a complimentary glass of wine , this is the place. Inside seating can be a little tight if you have a large party. There is sidewalk seating. Try the chicken marinated in a delicate wine sauce and topped with mushrooms. Top your salad with fresh cracked pepper. If one glass of wine isn't enough , BYOB."

  • "We dined there last Saturday and found the server, Tess, to be very cokrdial and well trained. I would say the food was good, nothing exceptional. We both had veal and found it tough, they could have used a better grade. Probably why items are are on the lower price side."

  • "What could be better than enjoying a real "home-cooked" meal while taking in the sites of center city philadelphia's old city district. Nestled in historic Philly, this place is amazing and exactly what we all could use in our lives. Save room for dessert. BYOB btw"

  • "I made a reservation for a group of 8. The restaurant was not aware of the reservation even though it was confirmed through open table. Our waitress got our orders mixed up & one person's order was not made at all. My panini was described as turkey, pesto and provolone but the turkey was smoked turkey which is very salty. If I had known this, I would not have ordered it. I won't be back."

  • "On a whim i decided to try some new places to eat, so i searched the 1000 point section for something close to where i was currently driving and discovered Panini's. It was lunch time and the restaurant was 100% empty, so my review will only be on the food. A chicken wrap, and a salmon burger were ordered as well as a canoli (spelling). The wrap was ehh - decent, the salmon burger was very good, and the dessert was very good as well. The place is small, so i would suspect if it ever did get busy, then it would be a extremely tight fit to move about and find your table. I enjoyed the place and i will be going again. It wasnt mind blowing, but for the price paid (total bill $20) for a quick bite to eat, this will definitely stay on my list."

  • "We dined outside along market street. It was a beautiful Tuesday night and we took full advantage of pasta night. We had a bottle of wine, we enjoyed their delicious pasta entrees and even saved room for dessert. Their Lemonchelo is divine."

  • "The restaurant is on Market which is easy to get to by cab or Septa. It is a BYOB so they told us there was a wine shop on 2nd St. We were immediately sat and made welcome with friendly service. The atmosphere was old Philly/Italian. There were many unique dishes and specials to pick from. The homemade tomato fettachini with chicken was delicious. The prices were reasonable and we would go there again."

  • "I love this place, the staff was friendly and attentive and the food was perfect for the price. The only thing I was bothered with was the loud obnoxious table behind us which was a large group of twenty somethings acting like twelve year olds and couldn't use their inside voice. The restaurant was quaint and very sweet as was the staff and it is well worth the annoying guests."

  • "I want to start off and say that the service was good, no complaints on the service or the establishment. The food on the other hand is what has provided my low score. For the appetizers and soup/salad: chicken vegetable soup tasted and smelled of feet, Calamari was excellent but for $12.95 we received about 10 small pieces, bread, if that is what we can call it, was so stale and hard and wasn't even delightful to eat or use to dip into sauce, which is one of the best things of going to an Italian restaurant. For the main course we had Safood Risotto, Gnocchis in a Gorgonzola sauce, Chicken Parm and a salad and not many complaints could be said on the food, it wasn't bad, but nothing ro rave about."

  • "Unpretentious little neighborhood spot...but warmly decorated and tidy looking. The food was well seasoned, fresh and light. I had chicken Marsala which was just sweet enough with lots of mushrooms , mashed potatoes and a lovely side of flavorful thin sliced zucchini . The sauce was a just right reduction... Very tasty . Not, as in some restaurants, a thick, heavy ,overly sweet brown gravy. The servers and hostess were so helpful and charming. And a bonus is that you can BYO wine. Walking distance to Independence Mall and Hotel Monaco."

  • "I was very happy with the location, and access. The menu had many choices and we ordered off the special pasta menu(farfelle and shrimp) which was a real value, included soup or salad.Pasta was delish. Funny was my Mom ordeed a creame brulee and we knew when we both tasted it they had forgotten the sugar. They took item off the bill and gave us a free dessert for later. My Tiamasu was homemade and yummy. Very enjoyable dinng experience. Server was very nice and attentive."

  • "Our second visit to this quaint eatery was very pleasant and pasta entries were delicious. Wednesday evening is pasta night at Panini's and there was an extensive selection which was in addition to the regular menu. Soups were very good and although we did not have salad, the ones being delivered to other tables were ample and fresh looking. This is a BYOB establishment but an offer of a glass of chardonnay or sangria was available with your dinner. Included among the early evening diners were City tour guides dressed in colonial garb, which only added to the ambiance. Would definitely return - highly recommend."

  • "This night was a very slow night, so the restaurant was preparing to close. However, they went back to serving their delicious bread rather than those bread sticks. Farfalle al salmon is one of my most favorite dishes in the whole wide world and only Panini makes it the way I love IT! worth the trip."

  • "Bread was sub-par. They should switch to a crusty better bread. Mushroom soup was salty. I would add a touch of cream sherry to it. My main course was very good -- eggplant dish. Did not have dessert. Service was good and they got us out in time for the theater."
