Diner Reviews
  • "I thought my main dish, pork belly was too fatty. The desert was fabulous and the starter nice."

  • "Been lunched and dined there occasionally past 10 years. Always nice food, good service, and very pleasant place to have a meal with family and friends."

  • "Pangaea is one of my favorite restaurants and didn't disappoint. The candied beet salad was delicious with a nice tart dressing. I then had the duck and it was beatifully cooked and served with a really tasty puree and vegetables. Dessert was really good as well (caramel ice cream with great sauces) except I didn't really care for the chocolate souffle. It had too much cocoa powder on the outside and I kept breathing that in which wasn't pleasant. I would come back here any time."

  • "The food and service were excellent. We however had a screaming child next to us that never stopped wailing. Did not stay for a coffee because of the child. Unfortunately we could not wait to get away from the irritation. Too bad because everything else was superb."

  • "Panagaea is my go-to restaurant and they always do a great job. This is was my 3rd "licious" at the restaurant and it was the best one yet."

  • "A very enjoyable Summerlicious menu. Wonderful presentation."

  • "Pangaea is a terrific restaurant with consistently excellent food, professional service and a relaxed ambiance. We have been there many times for their regular menu and also during Toronto's restaurant promotions Winterlicious and Summerlicious. Pangaea's prix fixe menu during these promotions is just as excellent as their regular menu. Service is also excellent. This sets them apart from many of the restaurants we have tried during these promotions. They strive for excellence at all times. And make you feel very appreciated and welcome. Pangaea is one of Toronto's top restaurants yet in many ways is a hidden gem. Try it. You will not be disappointed."

  • "5 ladies gathered for dinner and the food was great. Our waiter recommended the Liver and he was absolutely right, melted in your mouth. He was very attentive and had a sense of humour. The soup of the day, cauliflower curry, was also delicious. It was a quiet night, not too busy, being the night before Summerlicious. Please note the Public Transit info on the website is not correct, it is Bay St. exit, not Cumberland. Great Night!"

  • "We took two friends for dinner as a 'thank you' and couldn't have chosen a better place. The food was outstanding (have the risotto!) and delightful service. Would definitely return if in Toronto again. I know our friends will"

  • "Pangaea is one of my favourite spots. The tables are nicely spaced and the perfect for private conversation. It's a great restaurant for a business meeting or a quiet meal with close friends. The service is attentive but not intrusive and there's always a friendly greeting from co-owner, Peter. The food is of the highest quality, light, great for healthy eating and just delicious. The desserts are special. I just had a beautiful strawberry shortcake with the first local berries of the season. Highly recommended."

  • "This has been and continues to be the "go-to" place for liver. Always done to perfection. The bread never disappoints. And a great wine list. Right now they are serving oysters -- DELICIOUS West Coast oysters !! And attentive service."

  • "Really enjoyed my meal, the waiter was lepful in recommending appetizers and desserts, especially the calamari! My main course was the special for hte day - which was elk, I never tried elk before but it was delicious - and a substantial portion as well. Overall, it was a great experience."

  • "Good restaurant with friendly staff that made us feel very comfortable. Our group included a 10 year old girl, which the staff did a good job to positively engage and accommodate her special requests. Food presentation was good and my meal was very tasty. I was especially surprised by the presentation of the caesar salad, interesting and different which I liked! I don't know how many restaurants I have been to and ordered a caesar salad and this was the first time I have seen it this way.. Points for originality. Thanks Pangaea"

  • "Dinner at Pangaea has never disappointed, and once again we were treated to a fabulous dinner. It's not surprising why Pangaea has been so successful over so many years. As usual, I started with the grilled calamari. Always fantastic, this time around was a little on the chewy side...more the quality of the product than the prep. My wife's trout as a main, was simply spectacular, while my risotto (asparagus and mushroom) was excellent, though not quite at the stratospheric level as the mushroom risotto (with the veal reduction), which is simply the best on the planet. Service was fair.........not the best........chalk it up to a new, less experienced server. Peter (co-owner) served the 2007 Ridge with his usual charismatic style."

  • "My husband and I have been going to Pangaea for many years and the food has never disappointed us. This time the food was great too but the service wasn't as stellar as what we were used to and expecting for such a high end place. The young woman wasn't personable at all and didn't pay much attention to our table. Also the kitchen made a mistake with one of the main meal and only advised us 45 mts after ordering that they were out of the lobster my friend ordered. However, after mentioning to the owner he right away admitted the mistake and offered desert on the house. Anybody can make mistake and this didn't bother us since they recovered with the desserts. We will still go back as the food is outstanding."

  • "My wife and I went to Pangaea for lunch (before a show). From the bread, to the apps, to the main dishes and the dessert, everything was prepared to perfection. The attention to presentation and detail was excellent and the food was simply enjoyable. You could not wait to get to the next course. This is my second visit and I remember that my first visit was very consistent with my second. Well done Pangaea!"

  • "I have dined at Pangaea at multiple occasions in the past year or so and have never had a bad experience. The service, ambiance and food always leave me satisfied and happy. Their roasted Chèvre & Beet Salad is to die for and the Black Cod I had for the main course was so buttery & flaky and served at the perfect temperature, It just melted in my mouth. I highly recommend this place for Lunch as well as Dinner."

  • "A wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Every course had fresh ingredients was delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. Appreciated having a sommelier on staff to assist with the wine selection. He suggested a wine that complimented everyone's dinner choice and also enhanced our dining experience.. Thank you for a memorable dining experience."

  • "We had an excellent evening at Pangaea with great food and excellent service. We particularly appreciated the sommelier who chose a superb bottle of wine to accompany our perfectly cooked rack of lamb."

  • "If restaurants were only about the food Pangea would be one of the best in the world. But they're not. The overall experience of dining out includes much more than the food. Service at Pangea isn't at all on par with the quality if the food. It looked to us as though they didn't have enough wait staff, so our waiter was extremely rushed. They clearly need someone to provide better training for the front-line, and to think about the little details that matter (like warming the bread basket). The tuna amuse-bouche was a nice, tasty surprise. My east-coast oysters were impeccable, and the best I've ever had, anywhere. Our steaks were done perfectly, and the accompanying items ont the plates were perfect!"

  • "We had a retirement lunch with a colleague. There were four of us. We wanted a quiet, classy venue and Pangaea was the perfect spot. The food was and service were both excellent."

  • "It was recommended to me by a friend for my 2nd anniversary and it did not disappoint. From the vast array of available wines to knowledgeable and friendly staff, I would definitely recommend Pangaea to anyone looking for a restaurant that checks off a lot of boxes. Good ambience, good presentation, great flavours and, above all, unique dishes; where a vast array of cultural foods and seasonings come together."

  • "Winterlicious dinner. met expectations but no "wow factor". Good service, but they may need to work some things out to attract more guests."
    Dined on 2/11/2014
  • "We were there for my birthday during Winterlicious and although the service was extremely friendly we were disappointed by the food especially regarding the portion sizes. We stayed away from the foie gras as we were warned that the portion was tiny but my daughter and her husband took the platter of cheese and only got three slivers. Quite a dispointment when you are French like us! The salad was bland and lacked dressing and seasoning. Some pepper please! The bison was tender and wonderful but the buttersquash puree was barely represented. My children selected the scallops and were unimpressed with the risotto. Over all good service and nice atmosphere but the food was not up to par either in size, balance of the dish or taste. Too bad!"

  • "After many years, Pangaea continues to be one of the best options on or near the Bloor St. strip. Food and service consistently very good. Good choice if you want a nice meal after shopping or before a movie. Great that they offer BYO for those of us with wine cellars."

  • "Had lunch for Valentine's Day. I thought it was a very welcoming place with a great atmosphere, service and food."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Last night of "Winterlicious", so busier and thus noisier than normal. Yet service was attentive and friendly; the birthday treatment of dessert surprised and delighted. It was the Winterlicious specially-priced menu that attracted us, but we ordered from the fuller and more interesting standard menu, and were not disappointed. Food was excellent."

  • "We are new to Toronto and so look forward to trying new restaurants as we get to know the city better. Unfortunately this was not a successful new venture for us. The service was shocking. It took a good 40 minutes for our order to be taken. A waiter did come to us about 2 mins after we sat down but when we said we needed another minute disappeared for more like 40 minutes. By which time we were really quite hungry and had very seriously contemplated walking out. If it had not been Valentines (and therefore anticipated most places close by would have been full) we would have left. Unfortunately once we ordered the time it took to be served was still very slow (20-30mins). Food was ok but did not make up for service."
