Diner Reviews
  • "Started our trip to Panchovilla due to positive open table ratings. My best friend and I were ill all weekend. The food was heavy. The Mexican band was too loud inside. It was hard to talk."

  • "Took over 30 minutes for the waitress to come get our check so we could pay and leave! Had to have a different server come get it. Also, she charged us for things and didn't tell us there would be a charge when we asked for them!"

  • "Fun night out, not a romantic spot but good food for a night out with friends"

  • "The service was truly amazing. My girlfriend and I don't eat meet so it was a pleasurable surprise to note all the vegetarian menu options! I loved the mariachi band and the big screen Fútbol games. The final part i loved was the cheap margaritas!!! Soooo good, and I shall be returning many a time."

  • "I made a reservation through Open Table for May 5th, 2014. Everything was processed and I received a confirmation e-mail. When I got to the restaurant, I was told that they were not honoring reservations for that day. The 3 staff people I spoke to were very rude and did not apologize for the mistake. If the restaurant is not going to honor reservations, the website should say so. I was very disappointed; I usually love Pancho Villa, but this was a really terrible experience. "

  • "I had never been to Pancho Villa prior to this visit. Found them on line as they were within walking distance of the Children's Theater. My granddaughter and I love Mexican food, and this was disappointing at best. I ordered the Enchiladas and was not only disappointed in the lack of filling, but more surprised that they used just a plain cheddar cheese? Wont go back. "

  • "Can't beat their Birthday deal. Bring 6 friends and the Birthday person drinks free, gets a flaming shot and a piece of cake AND get to spin a wheel for an excellent prize. We always have fun at Pancho Villa for Birthdays!"

  • "Overall a nice place. We had a groupon so decided to try it out. Not very fancy but food was excellent. The fresh guac is a must. A bit pricier than I thought ($60 for two) but can understand given the guac and liquor."

  • "We wanted to visit Pancho Villa's because we heard it had a family atmosphere and fun karaoke. We found great family dining, food came fast. Wait staff pleasant, food good, but not fabulous, clean. We were told karaoke would start at 9...we waited around until 950, then it was off to a slow start (this was a Fri. night), after 2 very traditional Mexican songs, we left...music was ok, but time was getting to late for kids."

  • "This restaurant is a great go-to for when I want a fun night for a mix of tastes. I have been to birthday parties here, girls-night-out and other special occasions and it is always very lively and festive. The menu has a lot of options so it might be a good idea to check it out online before you arrive. The drink specials are mostly margarita-centered but I love margaritas so that definitely wasn't a problem for me. For a real show-stopper get the table-side guacamole fresca so you can watch them make it. So good! The fajitas come out sizzling on a skillet which is also entertaining. All of the food is good, and they have a mix of tex-mex and authentic Mexican food so there's something for everyone."

  • "You know a good Mexican restaurant when most of the clientele is Mexican. This was the case when my wife and I went for Valentines day. We were not disappointed. Great menu. Good variety. Excellent service. Dishes I have never seen before in "Americanized" Mexican restaurants. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We had a group of six on a Friday night. The food very authentic and we would definately go back. I had chicken Tinga tacos and my husband had the shrimp and seafood fahitas. Both were very good. Our four other friends each had something different and said everything was very good. The Mariachi Band started to play about 20 minutes before we left and that was a nice surprise."

  • "Came here for the first time for New Year's Eve dinner. It was recommended to me by a friend. The menu provided plenty of choices and the menu items are authentic south of the border. They have a terrific two for one margarita drink special. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Our waitress gave us helpful suggestions while ordering and picked a great dessert for us when we asked her to surprise us."

  • "Fantastic food, great portion sizes and a cozy feel to the joint--the four of us WILL be going back!"

  • "The food and service was very good. We were there on a night that they had live music (strolling musicians) and the music was deafening! They strolled over to a table next to ours and stayed there for almost an hour. We couldn't even hear ourselves think, let alone talk to one another. We tried to ask our server to ask them to move on, but she was no help. It really ruined our dinner. Bottom line, go to enjoy the food in a casual atmosphere, but don't go when they have the strolling musicians!"

  • "Food was great as always, Had great service as well. Love going here with groups of people."

  • "There is false advertisement in the city pages for Poncho Villa that says FREE drinks on your Birthday (no restrictions stated). But what they don't tell you until you get there is that you have to have a party of six. We only had 4 at our table on my Bday so we were sol (how silly). The food was good and the Mariachi was fun, & they made fresh guac at our table. But what happened to the customer is always right, even when it says it in black and white?"

  • "Great time with some delicious margaritas and authentic mexican food."
    Dined on 9/18/2013
  • "Loved the atmosphere, friendly service and vibrant neighborhood. Food was good. All that said, Pancho Villa needs to add actual tequila to their margaritas. Drinks, which should be a fun part of the Mexican food experience, were oddly weak and overly sweet."

  • "Great food. Great service. We were there for lunch. We plan to go there for dinner the next time."

  • "delicious food for a great price. super yummy drinks, too!"
    Dined on 8/3/2013
  • "Very fun for a birthday with the mariachi band, birthday shot (it was flaming, literally) and cake. 2-for-1 margaritas on a Friday night for dinner is awesome. Best Mexican food in town."
    Dined on 7/19/2013
  • "The food at Pancho Villa is excellent! Everything on the menu is great. The service is somewhat slow, especially with a larger group. Food comes quickly, however drink orders and getting your tab at the end of the meal can take a little too long. Overall, an excellent place to eat."
    Dined on 6/8/2013
  • "We expected much better food and atmosphere from this restaurant that always seems packed. My pork dish was dry and the beans and rice was bland with lack of flavor. My wife's chicken mole dish was less spicy than she had hoped. Service was ok, and there were many birthday groups so the singing was annoying. We most likely won't return."
    Dined on 1/4/2013
  • "We were with a group of 10 and the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk, even right across the table. I asked for it to be turned down a bit and they did for about 10 minutes, then it was turned up again. we ordered margaritas and when leaving the waitress asked if we wanted our "other" ones. She said they were 2 for 1 specials but she hadn't told us this until we were paying and leaving, which we weren't very happy about. The food was just ok, nothing special at all. Overall I'd not be able to recommend this restaurant. We had been there last year and had a much better experience."

  • "This is a family-operated restaurant and the most convenient authentic Mexican restaurant to our work and home. We were impressed by the food, service and caring management."
    Dined on 12/30/2012
  • "We ordered drinks at the beginning and didn't end up receiving them until after we received our food. Also, it took a long time to get our check. It was difficult to catch any of the servers attention. They were very task oriented vs. customer service oriented."
    Dined on 10/6/2012
  • "It was a great experience. The food was great and the service was wonderful; the waitress went out of her way and was very nice and helpful! The price is very reasonable as well."
    Dined on 9/7/2012
  • "Solid Mexican fare! Lots of choices for vegetarians, including tamales (which restaurants often don't have)"
    Dined on 9/5/2012
  • "The service was very poor and slow but the food was good. They also had no record of our reservation!"
    Dined on 7/6/2012
  • "After reading so many positive reviews, we were expecting it to be much better than it was. We found it to be extremely average and would not go back."
    Dined on 6/27/2012
  • "Good for groups. Watch out for parking though, someone is making a killing of their lot. It makes me hesitant to ever go here again."
    Dined on 6/16/2012
  • "If you are a group that goes in there, you are "put off" until the servers have caught up with their other tables; this was irritating and frustrating. If you asked for something, it was an inconveince and didn't get it until you were practically done with your meal and didn't need the item."
    Dined on 5/9/2012
  • "My sister & I had dinner here and we both loved our Combination plates. Very flavorful and delicious!"
    Dined on 4/27/2012
  • "I wanted something different and cultured so we went here for lunch. It would have been a better experience if the waitress could tell me what each item was. Made for an authentic experience I guess but I was disappointed with my choice of food. The salsa and chips were great but the refried beans and too much lettuce turned everything to slop and lost any kind of magical Mexican seasoning that should have been happening. I wanted to love this place but walked out feeling little let down."
    Dined on 4/15/2012
  • "What else is there? Still probably the best Mexican in Minneapolis, but what pushes it over the top is the 2x1 margaritas Mon-Th."
    Dined on 4/8/2012
  • "We had my fiances birthday party there on a Saturday night. We had 22 people join us and so I was worried about how long it would take, etc. They had our table waiting for us even though it was busy, our service was great, food came quickly and every person loved what they ordered. Our waitress even wrote up separate checks for us! Great place for a birthday. (With 4 meals paid, the bday person drinks free!!!)"
    Dined on 3/31/2012
  • "It was very hot inside the restaurant and the soda machine was out of service. The refreshments they had available were warm so there was no way of cooling down. That was very disapointing to all of us. However, the food was good and we feel it's one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Minnesota."
    Dined on 3/18/2012
  • "Had a set reservation a week before, when we got there it still took 45 minuets to get a seat and there is no real waiting area. When walking in the door no one ask you what you are there for (table, how many, whatnot) You have to get ahold of them to ask for a table."
