  • "What else can I say? Great food, service and generous portions. Well worth the expense."

  • "Pamplemousse Grill is my go-to place when people come to visit., I'm from LA and I have to say I really miss high end restaurants. Aren't many of them in North County. The service is great, the people are friendly. It's a down-home environment in an upscale restaurant. Nice decor. The food is as good as you can get around these parts. The lobster was a bit tad undercooked but it was the best I've had in 3 years in San Diego County. The presentation is good, and the wine selection is too. I think the restaurant is a tad overpriced for what it is, but it's such a nice experience I don't really mind. It's such a comfy place to have a good meal."

  • "The food was wonderful, our waiter an absolute delight and the wine list was spectacular . . . . with a wide range of prices to suit all tastes and budgets. My ONLY complaint about the experience was a rather large, rather loud group seated in the near vicinity that could literally be heard throughout the entire restaurant."

  • "brought friends for the first time -- service late and poor -- table for 4 to tight -- food very good -- just poor service -- not what it was in the past --"

  • "Lovely dinner - Cajun fried oysters were especially delicious. Had parts of truffle tasting menue - also very good. One minor point - service was very attentive but somewhat rushed. I would have liked to have lingered longer between course to be able to enjoy the company and the wine!"

  • "Wow - what a fantastic place for a special occasion! It's on the pricey side but the food and the service is well worth it!"

  • "It was my birthday: I was looking for delicious food, warm ambience, friendly competent service and a casual atmosphere (meaning upretentious). Pamplemousse gave me the joy I was looking for! Expensive but worth it in every way. Just walking in one is met by the Dessert Chef at her station making the freshest desserts and breads. Portions are generous; flavors and quality exceptional with inventive ways of creating every dish. I may never eat lobster again after my superlative experience with the ginger and butter sauce on the side. I could go on and on - I'll just let you have the experience for yourself."

  • "We've always come to expect excellent meals at Pamplemousse, the chef uses the highest quality ingredients in such a creative way. This evening was no exception, however in addition to the fine meal our waiter was outstanding! Very personable and knowledgeable. He attended quickly and efficiently yet wasn't overly present, giving us some quality time together. Will always come back to this great restaurant!"

  • "Had a great dinner here with a friend. I have to say that -- coming from living in LA my whole life -- I thought the food was a tad overpriced because while it was very good, it wasn't spectacular. But I will be a regular here anyway. It's my kinda place. Not too big, very friendly, elegant, and they have their own parking in front. Nice crowd at the small but friendly bar, where some guests were having happy hour. The paella (special of the night) looked fabulous. $287 for two with two glasses of wine."

  • "While both the rib eye and short ribs were very good and perfectly done, I can't say the same about the service. After we received our entrees, the waiter never stopped by to check on us. He was also very slow in delivering and picking up our check. This is not what I expect in a restaurant of this price and caliber."

  • "Our second visit when in San Diego was amazing. The food and service are top flight. The gnocchi with truffle was out of this world. I had the game trio and loved it. The menu is expansive so take time and ask questions. One of the best restaurants in Southern California for honest upscale French-style dining."

  • "I cant say enough good things about this restaurant...from the drinks at the bar, appetizers, entrees, dessert - everything was outstanding. Great service - we will definitely be back! Don't expect something this good for nothing though....our bill for two people including tip was $250 - we splurged and definitely worth it!"

  • "My sister was visiting from Monterey and we decided to have dinner at Pamplemousse during her visit. The food never disappoints and the service had been exceptional until that evening. Our server Kris was a bit rough around the edges and yet treated our party as if we did not belong in a restaurant of that caliber when it was most likely the other way around. Her brash personality almost ruined what could have been a truly enjoyable dining experience. It was shocking to find such inadequate service at a wonderful place like PG. I'll be sure to request a different server the next time I dine there."

  • "So we check in with Pamplemousse every couple of years, at this point -- we are not loyal customers. The chef is obviously very talented, the food is made competently, but very little has truly changed in the past two years (or in the years prior, for that matter). The service is pretty poor for a restaurant as expensive as this one, and while the food is good, is it really worth the price? I'm not so sure. The ambiance is muddled and old-fashioned, and gloomy."

  • "We ate there for valentine's day. the service is top notch, and the food was cooked to perfection. I ordered the rack of lamb and prime rib combo and both were very tender and melted in my mouth. My wife had the quail and venison. First time I have had quail that wasn't a bit dry. Dessert was amazingly good. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the cornbread, as It didn't pair well with the french style flavors."

  • "Wow! Eat bite turns into a party in your mouth. The food is complex and there is always a plethora of tastes on each plate. The service is prompt, warm, engaging and highly educated. Side note: they have a retail wine list that allows guest to purchase certain wins (six bottle minimum) at unbeatable prices."

  • "I think yelped overhyped it for me, but it was still delicious. The seafood appetizer had a good amount of crab meet and such. The duck was so tasty with its crispy skin. Dessert was a little disappointing though.... pretty good I guess... but not this-tastes-like-heaven."

  • "One of my favorite place in San Diego. Everything we had was perfectly prepared and yummy - love the Seafood Kimchi starter, wonderful crispy duck and perfectly done filet. Attentive staffs to take care of your needs. I love this place for special occasions and a nice splurge."

  • "Filet-Short Rib duo was tender, juicy-excellent. Duck always the best, crispy and wonderful glaze and sauce. Sole a new favorite for one, previously fish averse, diner in the party. Biggest surprise for a new taste treat was the Kim Chee appetizer, great-great-great taste, texture and tart mix of crab, lobster and shrimp."

  • "Came early and the bar was packed. Found a spot and had a couple of martinis. The tender was really nice and threw in extra blue cheese stuffed olives (yum), Had a nice quiet booth in a pack place. Wife had Kobe Beef Burger while I had the Duck. Duck was a little too dry but the burger was delicious. The apps and Desserts were great as well. Restaurant week can be hit or miss at some places, but here it was great. Food was delicious, the staff were attentive (but not smothering). I will be going back for sure."

  • "As always Pamplemousse delivers. It's Restaurant Week in San Diego but that doesn't stop this fabulous restaurant from delivering its very best from greeting throughout dinner with quick service for bread refills and water to dessert. No rush to finish each course, which marks a terrific restaurant in my book. Suggestions were welcomed and menu items were described. All questions were answered with knowledge and expertise. I plan on coming back as well as suggesting this restaurant to everyone. Burrata cheese salad, seafood cocktail were our appetizers. Beef two ways and duck were our entrees and the salted caramel molten cake finished the night off perfectly. Can't go wrong with any menu choice."

  • "Took our own bottle of wine, and new in advance we would pay a corkage fee. Thought $25 was too high a fee, but on top of that, despite being a party of 3, we were given a mandatory "service charge, i.e. tip" on our entire bill, and that meant 20% tip on the corkage fee (isn't that already a service charge since they didn't provide the product???), and further, they collected 20% on the TAX. Absolutely ridiculous. This was only our second time there, the first time was more enjoyable. The food is outstanding, there is no doubt, but our waiter was bland and the service charge situation ruined the experience. Multiply this by the number of tables and the restaurant is raking in tip on taxes. Not very ethical."

  • "I always have an amazing time at Pamplemousse. This time around our waiter gave a perfect recommendation of Cabernet to go with my ribeye. We got a private booth and I had an amazing time dining with my wife. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "I'd read that Pamplemousse Grill is one of San Diego's finest French restaurants. It is good, but not great. During Restaurant Week it was full (on a Sunday evening). Seating was prompt. But the service, while adequate, failed to distinguish. Our waiter appeared maxed out. Last year we went to Mille Fleurs during the Week. That was an entirely different experience. Five star check, check, check, check, check, check. This food was fine, the portion sizes decent. But our party of five agreed that the overall experience was merely good. The space is relatively cramped and that likely accounts for all of the dessert dishes being prepared/staged in the entry way. There is work to be done to excel. Note: Gluten free option(s) would be desirable."

  • "This place is definitely suited for special occasions. The aged pork is suburb and this place boasts fantastic dessert options! We've been here many times and have never been disappointed. So why the 4 stars? Although the food and service are top notch, I knocked off a star for the terribly outdated ambience."

  • "Had my son's birthday at Pamplemousse Grille. The booth we were given for 6 people was roomy and quite nice. The menu was creative and everyone enjoyed their meal. This was the first time that we were refused the sampling of two wines by my daughter. Other than the that, our dining experience was worth recommending to friends."

  • "Excellent, as always. The lobster grilled cheese is ridiculously delicious. It was my first time trying the porcini dusted John Dory...wow, what an amazing piece of fish. Husband's steak was perfection. Thanks, Jeffrey & crew! They are now selling boxes of their caramels..grab some to go!"

  • "We found the wine list to be a bit confusing but extensive. I ordered the venison chops. Generally farm raised venison has a very mild taste and the sauce almost overpowered the meat flavor. Two of the chops were properly cooked medium rare but the third was raw but warm at the bone. My wife's duck was properly cooked, moist and flavorful. We both would prefer our food less salty."
