  • "Pampano has excellent food, but be prepared for sky high prices. This is borderline a place to go when you're using an expense account. I ordered the lobster tacos for an appetizer - they were the tiniest tacos I've ever seen accompanied by the tiniest piece of lobster meat I've ever seen. They were one bite tacos. For $18, I expected way more. You'll need to eat about 25 of these before maybe feeling full. BUT, definitely DO go to the Pampano Tacqueria located in the basement level of the building to which the restaurant is attached. BEST BEST BEST fish burrito I've had in New York City!"

Highly recommend the guacamole to nibble on and the lobster tacos to start. No dessert but the espresso with Godiva chocolate liqueur was a perfect ending to a muy sabroso niche!"

  • "I've been to Pampano before, and I remember being wowed by the tantalizing flavor combinations. This time was no exception--it even exceeded my expectations! You MUST try the ceviche. Get a sampler with tuna and halibut at least--they are not to be missed!! The shrimp ceviche (cooked) is not nearly as good and not recommended. The restaurant is situated on the second floor under an all-glass ceiling, which means temperatures can soar. It was extremely warm when we arrived, and the staff wasn't as quick to respond to my complaints as I would have liked, but eventually they found a way to let in some fresh air. If they hadn't, I would have left. It was unbearably hot. So glad I stayed though. The food was truly fantastic!!!"

  • "Excellent food. My husband and I were impressed. The quality and presentation were amazing. This is not your typical mexican restaurant. I ate their sea bass which is named after the great Placido Domingo. I came to find out because he was sitting next to our table. We wonder if the service is always as attentive when you are seated next to a celebrity. We are definitely going back. I would note that the ambiance is differnet on the firs tfloor than on the second floor. The second floor seemed more lively but not in an "i can't hear what you are saying." The downstairs was more quiet and cozy. Only con is that the table we had was very small and the size of the plates can be quite large."

  • "I can't belive the service could be that slow... I went there with co-workers for dinner before, and it was near Xmas, very few groups that time. Maybe that's the reason I felt the restaurant was good. But after the lunch today, God, I think I will never go there again. I mean, the food and drinks is nice, but you can't let your customers wait that long. It's lunch time, and people need to go back to offices !! Even for our desert, we wait for about 15 min. Not to mention how long we wait for our main dishes. The waiter was not very nice either. He mistook our bill finally and we have to wait even longer for him to correct it."

  • "Executive Chef Richard Sandoval is one of my favorite NYC chefs. I follow all his restaurants and was happy to finally be able to come to Pompano and I left very satisfied. Took advantage of the restaurant week menu, had the sopa de frijol which was light and delicious then the paella for entrée which was so creamy and flavorful and the best was the dessert Chocoflan, light chocolate cake on the bottom and creamy flan on top which a nice candy crunch. Walked out so full but very happy. Have yet to have a bad experience at any of his restaurants."

Corn cake and coconut ice cream were uninspired, but tasty. Overall, very good for a workweek lunch, but nothing more."

  • "I have dined at Pompano several times. This was perhaps the least enjoyable visit, although it was still very good and I would return. I assume that this was an "off night" for whatever reason. The main dish I had, the paella, is best described as gummy. The rice was not very good and I had to look hard to find any seafood. It was part of the Restaurant Week menu. My guest had the same item, but not on the Restaurant Week menu. Same quality, but a larger portion. The guacamole, on the other hand, was outstanding. Drinks were good, as usual. Beautiful setting too. I am hopeful things will improve on my next visit."

That was then and now you receive "acceptable" quality food served by disengaged staff who operate like UPS delivery workers. In fact UPS employees have much more personality and are far more customer-centric than the staff at Pampano. Pampano has become an assembly line for delivering undifferentiated southwest cuisine."

  • "Upon entering, go straight to the bar for awesome happy hour deals from 5 to 7pm. You can check your coat next to the host/hostess or continue on upstairs. Very romantic and fine dining feeling. Great service! We received complimentary tequila liqueur. Great scallops with shrimp. Has outside patio dining."

  • "Ambience & Service - Came here during Restaurant Week lunch for a friend's birthday. I was blown away by the peaceful airiness of the setting (granted it was a Monday at 1:30p) and staff friendliness. It felt like I was at a beautiful beach house. Told staff it was a friend's bday lunch and they brought out a separate dessert after the 3rd pre fixe dessert. Food - Good authentic Mexican food. Not overly cheesy. Chips are hearty & super crunchy. Desserts (warm corn cake w/ coconut ice cream or flan) are fantastic. Catered to a vegetarian diet although pre-fixe Restaurant Week menu had no veggie entree. In absence of pre-fixe price, I would consider this pricey given quality of food."

  • "If you are bored or tired of the ordinary Tex/Mex dishes at your local Mexican restaurant, dine at Pampano for a real treat. I would call this more fusion Mexican than straight up and that is what makes it more interesting and delectable. Our party had a wonderful paella ( that you did not have to wait 20 minutes extra to enjoy), and black cod, beautifully presented. The drinks were generous and the guacamole and smoked fish appetizer hit the spot. We will return."

  • "Our small group of 3 were in town for a conference and was looking for a place near the conference venue given the snow conditions. No one wanted steak so we googled for seafood and found Pampano. What a gem! I had the black cod, my colleagues had scallops and fluke. We all loved the interesting Mexican fusion flare of predominantly Mexican ingredients with Asian and other influences. The reason for not giving 5 stars on the food, when we ordered the guacamole we ordered it "spicy" but I couldn't detect any spiciness. It is a keeper. The seafood was fresh. The service was quick. The manager is constantly walking around checking the tables. The timing for the food was good, not too rushed but you're not waiting forever either."

  • "Brought a friend from out-of-town who wanted mexican fare but close to her hotel in Midtown. I wanted something nice that had really good food, guac and margs and really didn't want to resort to ho hum Dos or Rosa mexicano. This place was perfect! Great margaritas (at least 6 types), good assortment of tapas that had expected and unexpected options, nice server, smooth, fresh guac with *perfect* chips. The all white decor was a refreshing departure from the expected mexican restaurant thing. The food could have been a titch more seasoned (heat or something), but it was good otherwise- nice portions (meaning not huge), and fresh ingredients. We will definitely be back."
