Diner Reviews
  • "Some of the dishes are good but overall, the food is not great for the price. The ceviche was not good at all, and the tacos! How can you go wrong with tacos?"

  • "Service was great, there was always someone around tending tables, making sure glasses were filled with water or sangria! I had the salad but everyone else in my group had cerviche appetizer and loved it. For the entree I had the steak and again everyone else had seafood; we all enjoyed our entrees. We didn't stick to our budget of $38 for restaurant week and ended up ordering the guacamole ($14) and pitcher of sangria ($42). I saw on their website that they have a bottomless brunch which includes unlimited sangria and a few other drinks - so I may try brunch one day. Nice atmosphere, mellow with light chatter and laughter."

  • "We chose Pampano for our last night in New York till fall. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. The portions were not skimpy and the choices were great. I love the white on white decor, ceiling fans and terrace. The seafood dishes are outstanding. My husband loves it."

  • "Everything about Pampano was great, the service was fast and efficient but always well timed. We had the grilled pineapple mojitos which were to die for. The starter sample of both the guacamole and the swordfish was savory and the tortilla chips were also a pleasant surprise. For the meal I had the Atun grilled tuna with cilantro-ginger pico-de-gallo and it was worth every mouth watering bite. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back."

  • "Really great mexican menu with an upscale flavor. The chef makes excellent and unique choices in mixing tastes and portions are perfect!"

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary here on a recent Saturday with brunch. The service was impeccable and we almost felt as if estuviéramos en el D.F. Bueno, la comida ... ¡riquissima, sobre todo, los ceviches y no se pierda el pastel de elote!"

  • "While the food was good, the waitstaff was constantly wanting to take our plates, before we were thru with our food."

  • "This place is worth the climb--literally lots of stairs to get to the dining room and its shielded terrace. Lunch can be noisy with exuberant office groups, brunch and dinner are a bit quieter. The kitchen hits all the right notes with many familiar dishes given a slight twist. Notably they have Voctoria lager, which tastes a lot like the long departed Casa Blanca. Service was warmly personal. I don't know that I would go from the West side, but it is very pleasant having Pampano in my neighborhood."

  • "Pompano is a good choice. The ambience in the serene and spacious dining room and outdoor balcony are good for the soul. As to the food, most dishes at the heavy-on-seafood spot are good to excellent: try the spicy guacamole, the shrimp ceviche, and the corn cake with coconut ice cream. The empanadas aren't quite up to snuff."

  • "The food was good, but the temperature of the room was so cold that it was impossible to enjoy. I saw some women guests using napkins to cover their bare shoulders. We had sweaters, but it was still too cold and uncomfortable. The service was good, but it took a long time to get the check."

  • "The food was excellent but the service was a little slow. We were on our lunch hour so we wanted the service to be faster. The waiter was very attentive, friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend Pampano to friends."

  • "We had the special $38.00 rest week menu. Portions were small. Food tasted premise and was ordinary. Especially the entree and desert. Underwhelming. Will not return"

  • "Came in for a restaurant week menu with my hubby. Guacomole and margaritas were outstanding! We ordered Quesadilla de Pescado for appentizers, and it was really good and flavorful. For a main course i've ordered Mariscada, which was served to me cold, but as soon as i told the waitress she was very apologetic and my dish was swaped within a few minutes for a hot dish. It was very good and flavorful. My husband had Arrachera but he said the meat wasn't that great. Overall i really liked it but don't think it's worth to spend so much for a regular priced menu. I saw a lot of people with pitchers of sangria and appetizers only. The ambience is nice and they have a roof top open space, which adds value to this place."

  • "Restaurant service was quiet to begin with. Guacamole is good and in fact the one thing good about the food other than the sorbet for restaurant week but it was a bit salty but still good. Server was not attentative occasionally would have to flag down another server or a busser. My steak was supposedly medium n grilled but i got medium well unseasoned and burned parts. The Mariscada is supposedly like a seafood soup or broth tradiationally and it was not as expected nor delivered it was jus rice n some seafood as stated on menu. Had the server been more attentative we wouldve known what was coming and there was barely any tables there too."

  • "felt top class without the fuss of white gloves; accommodating and understanding to the variation in size of the members of our family"
    Dined on 8/3/2014
  • "Although the food was good and the service as well, nothing about the place says Mexican. I thought it was pretentious for no reason, and I have had much better food for much better prices elsewhere. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant."

  • "Two friends & I ate here for dinner during Restaurant Week. Bar was great while we waited, very attentive bartender. I tried red snapper quesadillas, fluke & chocoflan and tried the caiparinha and mezcal & pear cocktail. No uncleared plates, and I didn't hear any complaints! Variety offered on the prix fixe menu wasn't great, but to be expected for RW. All of my dishes did exceed expectations (flavourful but not too spicy, well-balanced), although portions were just on the small side (had I perhaps added an appetizer or small dish, then just right). Unfortunately, while staff was friendly, service was quite slow (just under two hours including rush for the cheque in order to catch a train) so food was not always at ideal temperature."

  • "First disappointment was that happy hour only qualifies for the bar downstairs. Once we were seated upstairs, we couldn't take advantage of half-priced drinks. The portions were very small for restaurant week - I left hungry. In addition to being a miniscule portion, the ceviche was too sweet. I really liked the coconut rice in the seafood dish. The dessert was advertised as an assortment of gelatos and sorbets, but there was only one flavor. If you come to this restaurant, order from the regular menu. Restaurant week was not a good deal - overall disappointed."

  • "I have taken guests to Pampano numerous times, including our Board of Directors. I keep returning because the food is outstanding and the service always excellent. Anyone or any group that I have ever taken here has enjoyed the whole dining experience."

  • "We saw the restaurant week menu online and decided to give Pampano a try. What an enjoyable dinner. The menu was thoughfully put together and portions were ample. Food was fresh and the presentation made you want to dive right in. Will definitely return to Pampano whenever we are in the city."

  • "went there for restaurant week dinner, the portion is really small"

  • "This restaurant week lunch was wonderful in terms of the quality of food choices and flavor of the food. Unfortunately nothing was hot, lukewarm at best and I didn't have time to send things back due to being on lunch break from work. Too bad about that because the food was delicious but when food isn't temperature appropriate IT'S A PROBLEM."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "When we made the reservation we did not realize that they offered outdoor seating. When we arrived we had to wait until an outdoor table cleared. Good thing we waited. The inside part of the restaurant was EXTREMELY NOISY. I would only go back there during warm, good weather and sit outside."

  • "The food and service were great! We had picky eaters with us and the kitchen bent over backwards to make us happy. They succeeded 100%. Highly recommend the scallops with grilled watermelon. A bit of a walk from Broadway but worth the effort. Chef Richard Sandoval did not disappoint!"

  • "Pampano as a charming 2nd floor terrasse that get's hot during lunch hour but is cooling in the evening and gives you the feeling of a private garden. Sitting under the stars doubles the pleasure of its flavorful and tasty fusion dishes"

  • "Great food! Good cocktails, noise level unfortunately very high. It is also pricey so not an everyday outing"

  • "I used to frequent Pampano 8-10 years ago, but haven't been since then. I was so pleased to find the menu, service and appearance almost entirely unchanged. Really enjoyable evening and the food was unusually good. (I had the black cod, lobster tacos, mixed salad, and, of course, the guacamole. My guest (black cod, octopus salad) enjoyed her meal as well. It was great to return to Pampano!!"

  • "I truly enjoy this restaurant. I work with many clients from around the world and they always love Pampanos for lunch. You have a nice selection of restaurants in midtown, but Pampanos never fails in food, service, and overal experience."

  • "Food and service are always outstanding. The smoked swordfish appetizer was a perfect appetizer ,fresh and slightly smoky. The Sea scallpsy were plump , juicy and perfectly seared golden brown, the watermelon salsa was a refreshing complement. The mariscada was brimming with fresh seafood atop delicious coconut cilantro rice. The service was outstanding, the wait staff was very attentive"

  • "Lunch took over 2 hours and much of it was spent waiting for the food. The servers aren't good at dealing with large groups - we were a group of 7 and there was another large group nearby, so this was probably why we had to wait so long for our food to come."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Love the guacamole, red sangria and the rooftop seating! My husband and I have been there twice and would go back again!"
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Pampano gets it almost all right. The food is fresh; the menu interesting and thoughtful; the plate presentation is attractive and the combined effort makes for a fresh, tasty and enjoyable dinning experience - upscaled Mexican done very well. The drinks are also well done - fresh ingredients, not sugary, and interesting combinations. While no dish seemed crazy expensive, the overall bill seemed high (it was absolutely accurate) for what we had - but again, very good - it just "felt" high for what it was. And the service was good - pleasant and attentive - but not overly informative. The only real hiccup in service is that there was confusion as to who order what when the food came (at these prices, that detail should be handled better)."
