A word from Pamir Restaurant

Pamir is the name of a mountainous area in Central Asia mainly in Afghanistan once along the route of Marco Polo’s Silk Road and also inhabited by descendants of Alexander the Great’s troops.

The region’s cuisine was fortunate to inherit many exotic spices and flavors of Central Asia and its surrounding countries with influence from the Far East, Middle East, Mediterranean and Russia.

Pamir Restaurant was originally opened in NYC in 1979 and has maintained the same family ownership and great recipes.

Enjoy a taste of our history!

Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed everything. The appetizer of gorma and grape leaves were both exceptional! The entrees were equally tasty (mantu and lamb dish with orange zest, rose water and cardamom, whose name I can't recall...)and had such a range of flavors. I would dare say this is my new favorite food of ALL my options. Literally the best. So yummy."

  • "We had eaten in Pamir a few times in the past and always enjoyed it. We only stopped because we were not often in that area. Recently we were there and decided to return. We were dissapointed. The food was novel.... we had a great appetizer but the entrees were all not up to par. They seemed bland and the chicken in our dishes was dry. Sorry but I doubt we will be returning to Pamir."

  • "BYO Pamir was surprisingly quiet given the post-St. Pat's parade raucous. The ambiance is dark, paper-laden over tablecloths, some candlelight, wooden plank flooring. The Afghani food is a nice switch, somewhat between Indian and Turkish cuisine, but neither. Our Saffron lamb was good, however, the lamb could have been browned then simmered longer to be more flavorful and not so dry. We loved the hot appetizers. The salads were a bit sweet and nothing special to note. Dessert was the pistachio/confectioners' sugar laden crisp, nice and light. The Turkish coffee demitasse was disappointing given our Turkish cuisine experience has been a demitasse cup with additional coffee in a Turkish coffee pot. Staff was very nice and attentive."

  • "Outstanding food! My niece is a vegetarian, and there are many choices for her. I'm not, but the vegetarian dishes are so good, I don't miss meat. We order several and share. It's our second time here, and will be back. It's not local for me, but is definitely worth the trip!"

  • "Food always fresh, tasty, and well presented. We feel it's a pretty healthy dining experience, and have been to Pamir 6-7 times in past three years. If you're attending a concert at MPAC they are helpful in getting you served and out in time."

  • "My wife and I took another couple to Pamir before a theater date. It was their first dining experience at Pamir, and they were absolutely delighted with Pamir..... as were my wife and I , although we've been enjoying this amazing restaurant for several years. The food is consistenly delectable, and the service staff members all go out of their way to be patient and helpful explaing some of the Afghani dishes even though the menu, in my opinion, is very clear and "user friendly". 'best price/value in Morristown!"

  • "This is one of the best restaurants in Morristown! The Afghan food is consistent excellent, the owners are very friendly and personable and the service is excellent. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food provided."

  • "The sample of appetizers the waitress recommended was amazing. Everything was fresh and flavorful, especially the main dish--sweet and spicy tilapia. A nice change from always doing Italian. Look forward to coming back again."

  • "This is my fourth visit. Very welcoming staff. Attentive. We had the eggplant appetizer which was excelllent. Kebabs and special rice is always very good. Only drawbacks were that thr resturant was cold.....and main course took a long time to be served. Really like Pamir. See you soon!"

  • "The ambiance was very nice and the food was good, though not amazing. The service was very attentive and nice folks. They did get us to our sow on time, even bringing the check and reminding us of the time. Though BYOB, tey ahve a service where wine can be ordered and delivered to the restaurant."

  • "I love Pamir, always have. The food is consistently outstanding, even on a crazy busy Saturday night. The service is usually excellent but we had a waiter who forgot several things several times. He was unfailingly courteous and I suspect new. The oversights in no way diminished our experience, and once he has a bit more -- experience that is -- I'm sure he'll be as great as the rest of the staff. Hopefully, the generous tip will encourage him to keep at it. The food is fresh, bright flavors and such a great alternative to steaks, burgers, and the other offerings Morristown has so many of. Plus you don't need someone else's expense account to dine there."

  • "The food was tasty as always. We had starters which were really tasty, but not too big, which was perfect before eating our main courses. Food arrived quickly and was so good as usual. Meat heaven! Very tasty, well season and full of flavour. The restaurant is well lit and cosy. BYO is great, waiting staff are happy to open bottles, are really friendly and attentive. Love it here."

  • "This was for a 3rd date. Hostess actually read my email and, when I arrived, showed me choice of 2 tables which she reserved for me because they meet criteria that I requested in different ways. How awesome is that? The service is fully attentive but nearly invisible. And, we were not rushed at all. Food was different and good. BYOB. Put it in on your list."

  • "This was our first time at Pamir...We came here for our book club dinner. We usually pick a restaurant that has something to do with the book we just read and we just finished reading "And the Mountains Echoed" which took place in Afghanistan. The restaurant is absolutely lovely. The food was very good. the staff was attentive and yet not on top of us......"

  • "This Middle Eastern BYO serves some very tasty treats! We had the sambosa appetizer and the beet salad, which was very good and was a generous portion for an appetizer. For the entree we shared the mixed grill (skewers of lamb, beef, ground chicken, and chicken cubes). The meat was very tender, seasoned well, and you could really appreciate the flame fired taste. Prices were reasonable. The lamb is expensive, but on the menu they apologize for the increase in lamb prices, as the market prices for lamb have increased for them. Service was very good. We would definitely go back, and would definitely recommend it."

  • "overall this place was very good....it just didn't knock me out. the food was good but not as spicy/flavorful as I had hoped. Mounds of saffron rice on my dish with only a few pieces of lamb. good, but not great. appetizers were plentiful and tasty. service was good, people were nice, and the place was certainly buzzing w activity. I would go back for sure..just to see if it was any better/worse the second time around."

  • "Every meal I have had here has been good!!! Tried a couple of new things with my friend this time - beet salad, hummus and lamb stew - all were excellent - beautiful presentation - not usually a lamb eater but it was so tender I couldn't believe how good it was..."

  • "Kabobs, Palaws, other Afghanistani preparations, great Turkish coffee, and BYOB. What's not to like? If you like Middle Eastern cooking, this is a great place to come. We were there on a quiet Monday night and the service and atmosphere were excellent."

  • "We enjoyed our evening, until we received our bill. The waiter told us 2 other versions of the rice that came with the meal, without letting us know that there was an additional charge. It was a $4.00 additional charge each. I felt tricked. I would recommend the restaurant otherwise, but I would let them know about pricing practices."

  • "Can not even begin to describe what a great value it is for the money and the staff are very helpful in guiding you toward a meal you will enjoy. Second time there and both times were great!"

  • "Outstanding service by smiling, cheerful waitstaff who don't miss a beat. We sat at a table indoors on the cusp of the outdoor dining area which offered the best of both worlds. An attractively ambient space with good ethnic food but small portions. I had the grilled shrimp kabob special which came with only 4 moderate sized shrimp that were a tad too dry. Appetizers were good especially the ravioli which was excellent. Sauces were also excellent. We would go back again."
