Diner Reviews
  • "We had the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. We were in the restaurant almost 2 hours, had to ask for more water twice, our wine was delivered after the first course. We will not be back"

  • "We love Palominos. We had the crusted scallops and the prime rib. Both were so wonderful."

  • "Every year I am in Indianapolis for a convention that always falls on my birthday weekend. For the last 5 years I have insisted on this restaurant. It never disappoints us. Every year the food, drinks, and service are above reproach. This was my first time reserving through OpenTable and it was perfect. I will return every year. Wait staff was fantastic the food so yummy and dessert to die for. Thank you Palomino. Another Home Run."

  • "We went back here fo rthe first time in three years and some of the old favorites remained on the menu but our favorite olive plate ap was missing. The place has lost some of it's sparkle and just did not seem to be what we remembered. Good but not GREAT as in the past."

  • "I have been going to Palomino for years and have always been more than pleased. But this trip, I was very unimpressed. My dinner was on asiago scallops. Very bland. Our waiter started our fairly attentive, but then I table came that I believe were acquaintances of his and his attention to us disappeared. I felt it was terribly overpriced for what we received. It was a special occasion and I was not as happy as I have been in the past. It will be a long while before I return."

  • "I've been dining at Palomino since the restaurant opened and have been disappointed only once in all those years. Always great service and good food. A pleasure."

  • "The food was delicious, great ambiance and the service was great. They make a killer pom cosmo. My only complaint would be the cost. Very expensive....."

  • "The food was very good, and the service was excellent, at Palomino. Deon, our server, made a good dinner even better."

  • "We used to have one of these in San Diego....I really miss it. Love the food and the service. They went out of their way to get my group the table I wanted. I'll be back next time in Indianapolis."

  • "Have been to Palomino a number of times and always excellent. This was the first time over lunch, though, and there was a noticeable difference. Food still excellent, service very friendly, but very slow. No assistant waiters to be seen. Not sure if this is a normal lunch experience or a fluke, but definitely not the same standards as I'm used to at dinner there."

  • "We enjoyed a nice meal. 2 of us were vegetarian and I noted that on our reservation. They were ready with recommendations for us."

  • "This was my first visit back after several years and I have to say I was more than somewhat disappointed. Appetizer- Calamari was dry and over cooked; Entree was good; Desert-Doughnuts were greasy and somewhat bland. My associate wanted to request a mushroom soup without the port wine sauce and waited 7 minutes to see our server again. Glasses went unfilled for longer than acceptable and considering the cost of the meal for four (4), I was disappointed to say the least. Myself and one other colleague are both former restaurateurs and we made a concerted attempt to understand why. No more than 17 patrons in the restaurant so neither of us could understand this less than positive dining experience"

  • "After a wonderful Monday night dinner where the place was hopping, we made our next reservation before we even left! Classic chicken under a brick is moist & delicious. Mahi mahi well prepared. Rigatoni comfort food!"

  • "Food was very good. Waiter seemed bored. The decor could use something. Has gotten drab and uninspired in past years All else was great"

  • "We had wonderful food and our server Jordan was excellent."

  • "Palomino used to be one of the best restaurants in Indianapolis, but on my recent visit, I found it has faded a bit. While this restaurant used to be packed at lunch and dinner, it was barely a third full on a Thursday lunch hour, and while our server was trying, our food arrived from the kitchen long after we placed our order (which should have been quite simple to deliver). There's far more competition in the city now, and perhaps this restaurant needs to do some things to remain competitive. It's a beautiful spot but fading in its appeal."

  • "We've been eating at this Palomino since it opened. The food was consistently good, the service great, and the ambience just right. Lately the service seems to be slipping because there are fewer servers and bussers and everything takes longer to get. You used to sit down and a busier had their signature bread and olive tomato spread on the table before you knew it. Now the servers have to bring it after they've taken all their orders - when they get to it. The menus look old and worn like the restaurant can't afford new ones. This store has always depended on visitors and convention traffic but lots of locals, like us, used to eat there regularly. Now, unless there a basketball or football game, you don't see many locals. Sad."

  • "Waiter left. Knew we were waiting for people, but didn't ask if we wanted to order drinks before he left the table. Had to ask to move tables due to the glare off the cars going by the window. Waiters service improved once everyone was seated."

  • "Food was excellent, mostly quiet and wasn't busy for a Monday night at all. Can get a little pricey, but again the food was worth it."

  • "Do NOT go here if you are in a rush or want some cheap food. DO go here if you want a nice atmosphere with amazing food that is great for a romantic date. The food is amazing. I have had the mushroom soup(very good), the prime rib(which is the best prime rib I have ever had! And that is saying something), the tiramisu(fantastic desert!), the seasoned potatoes(mediocre side item), asparagus(mediocre side item), pork loin(awesome flavor). The service was slow both times I have been here. I was there on a Tuesday (7/1/2014), I got there at 7:05 PM. The server got to our table after waiting for about 5-7 minutes. The drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive. The food took about 40 minutes to arrive. Desert took about 15 minutes to come out."

  • "Four of us had a great dining experience. Food was outstanding and the service was exceptional."

  • "I had been there with a large group in January and loved it, but we were so disappointed this time around. The prime rib was so over done it was shocking, the calamari was Red Lobster-esque, but the bruschetta and Copper River salmon were really nice. Service was slow - both our appetizer and main course sat in front of us empty for some time."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The food and service was great. The selection of appetizers and main courses were very good. The portions of the appetizers were great for sharing among four people. The calamari was excellent. The crab an artichoke dip was good, but not outstanding. The prime rib was the best part of the evening. It was cooked exactly the way we wanted it. The smoky flavor was also unique and delicious. The weakest part of the meal was the Bloody Mary made with jalapeno infused vodka and the rather bland Bloody Mary mix. There was no kick at all. That should not stop anyone from eating here. It was an excellent dining experience."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "We found our dinner for four excellent except for the darkness which required us to use a flashlight to read the menu and wine list plus the fact that our entrees arrived while we were still in the midst of our soup and salads."

  • "lovely dinner, the lamb was amazing! the pasta dish with tomatoes and basil was very basic, but good. overall, i would come again."

  • "My Husband and I was celebrating our 27th Wedding Anniversary. The atomsphere was great along with the food and service. We had a great evening."

  • "My date and I visited on a Saturday at noon in downtown Indianapolis. When we arrived, we quickly noticed that we were the ONLY guests at the restaurant. (A few more trickled in during our meal.) After dining, we realized why. The food and service were not terrible, but honestly, for the quality that we received, we VASTLY overpaid for our meal. Yes, we checked the website menu in advance for pricing and still decided to go there, thinking the meal would match the price. Yet, it did not. The sandwiches were comparable to Penn Station, Jimmy John's, or Subway, and the fries were similar to Steak and Shake (but with some parsley added). Unfortunately, we paid at least double than what we would have paid at a fast food place."

  • "Very good meal and attentive service. Only complaint was our table location because we were given a small booth table ( no legroom whatsoever) at the rear of the dining area. We felt isolated and asked for another table. We were politely and quickly given another table but it was right next to the kitchen entrance. We should've asked to move again, but didn't. There were plenty of other tables in a more vibrant section."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "The service was great, the food was overcooked. Our salmon was well done, we ordered it medium rare. That vegetables were salted to heavily. French press coffee was excellent."

  • "Went for dinner early around 5 PM. Very few people in the restaurant however we had to wait about 5 minutes to have a table "cleaned". Service was average, food quality good. Overall I'd say it was an average experience. I had expected something unique."

  • "Was disappointed with facility for 47 anniversary dinner. Table of 8 felt like they were on top of us. Food was great and always like the tea."

  • "I travel to Indianapolis quite often and never miss a visit to Palomino. This time I had the special, which was Copper River Salmon. It was incredible. Will be back again in a few weeks."

  • "We celebrated graduation day with lunch at Palomino. The food was great and our server, Leah, met all our needs. Very friendly staff."

  • "We had the crusted tilapia and it was very greasy. Our son had the panini and it was not to his liking. He's 18 and will eat almost anything. The crackers that went with artichoke dip was bathed in butter. Overall not happy. "

  • "We have a small women's group that meets for lunch twice a year. For the past 3-4 years, Palomino has been our choice. Everything about the experience is lovely, especially the lunch combo specials."

  • "My adult son has chosen Palomino's to celebrate his birthday for the past several years. While pricey, the food is excellent with numerous dishes to choose from. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, helping us finalize our selections. And as before, the food did not disappoint any of us (and there were three). It was a relaxed atmosphere and we all enjoyed our evening together"
