Diner Reviews
  • "We have been to Palmer's several times, and always had excellent meals."

  • "We had a cheery server, Melissa, and a nice view of the pond and outside bar area, while sitting inside in the cool air conditioning. We ordered a nice pinot noir, Meomi, and the egg roll appetizer (social hour has special prices). The egg rolls were delicious, and a great start to our dinner. Warm bread with olive oil and spice dip was brought to the table while we waited for our entrees. We had the pretzel crusted trout, the grilled trout, and the salmon grill for our entrees, and all were so delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, we had the bread pudding between the 4 of us, and had more than we could handle - this too was superb."

  • "Noise level based on outdoor seating. Delicious piece of swordfish which came with two unannounced changes to the sides. Spouse had chicken piccata which was very good. Overall a very nice spot especially on a beautiful evening."

  • "made an online reservation and in the special comment section wrote I wanted on the patio. When I arrived I was told you didn't take reservations for the patio. This information should be made available on line. Had almost a 30 minute wait after all. I ordered the beer battered fish and chips and the fish batter was overdone. My husband ordered the swordfish which he thought was delicious. "

  • "A very good place in the Spring for a wonderful dinner on the patio. Good food and pretty good service for the money"

  • "I've dined at Palmers several times. I've been here for lunch, happy hour small plates, and full dinners, and I've never had a bad experience here. I've never even had an average experience. I've always been extremely pleased and impressed. Thank you!"

  • "Would have thought for a bday they would have offered free dessert & wishes me a happy birthday but did not. The sign they brought out was nice though. "

  • "Made a reservation through Open Table. When we arrived on time we were told our name would be put on a list. We finally found a seat at the bar and ate there, but was never called by the hostess for our table. She was not friendly and had no sense of what hospitality really is. It was just a job to her. "

  • "If you are looking for a great place to dine in the Nicholasville Road area, you must go to Palmer's! The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all top notch. If you consider yourself a foodie, this is a great place to try. The shrimp and grits are worth the trip! It is a wonderful venue if you are looking for a romantic night out or if you are looking for a great night out with friends. I can't say enough about the food and the service. We were thoroughly impressed with everything. The manager stopped by our table to inquire about our evening. Our server was excellent and made recommendations for one of our entrees. The bread pudding is also a must try. You will be pleased with the entire experience."

  • "We love Palmers. The food is always excellent. It has become one of our favorite restaurants. On our last visit however we dined at the outside bar. There were burning torches that left ashes on our clothes and in our drinks and, of course, we were seated next to the only outdoor fan that didn't work. We still love Palmers...just not the patio bar. Maybe they should lose the torches. "

  • "Had reservations for 4 for lunch after church. Arrived right on time, place was hopping -- we were seated immediately. We had a booth by a window that overlooked the patio and the pond with the fountain -- nice! Had a pitcher of white wine sangria to start our celebration. Bread was served nice and warm accompanied by olive oil w/ seasoning. Kitchen was a bit backed up, server said they were much busier than a typical Sunday, and it took a while to get our entrees, but we didn't mind because we were enjoying our conversation. Food was delicious - tuna with wesabi mashed potatos & brussel sprouts for me. Others enjoyed trout, fried fish, & a chicken pasta dish. Mothers received complementary cheesecake for dessert - Yum! "

  • "Food was terrific, but they were not prepared for the Mother's Day crowd."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Their food is excellent but their speed of order to table is terrible. It is not the fault of their servers but is very much a kitchen management issue. We waited over an hour from the time of our order until we received our food with our total time approaching two hours in the restaurant. I understand Mother's day is always a challenge but there isn't any good excuse for food delivery times that long when our 3 entrees consisted of kids shrimp, tilapia, and shrimp and grits."

  • "Great food....made reservations for 1:15 arrived at 1:05. Was told they were a little behind and it be a few minutes. After 30 minutes I checked in to see what the issue was as there were many empty tables. Told issue was in the kitchen. Was seated in about 5 minutes of that. The waitress was up front and said that normally took 20 minutes to get orders up from kitchen today running 35 to 40. We ordered our group of 5. It took an hour and 10 minutes. Would have thought we would never have to ask for refills on drinks as they were not busy delivering food. But, we went long stretchs not seeing our server. The manager did come by before we left and apologize and offered discount on future visit. I told him it was a shame great food awful serv"

  • "Waited an hr for food - only received after asking. Party of four ordered two salads, raw oysters/sautéed spinach, and catfish. Catfish was not fully cooked, although we were comped on that particular dish, produce was old, spinach was not brought with everything else - brought later. Had to ask for refill of beverages several times."

  • "Twice we have eaten at Palmer's for lunch on a Sunday. Both times we waited for our food for over an hour. The restaurant is nice and the food is good, our servers were also good. The kitchen isn't able to keep up causing a lengthy delay and both meals to be comped"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "While the food was excellent, the service equated to one of the worst dining experiences I've had ever. We were seated almost an hour after our reservation time. The server we had was extremely unpleasant and inattentive. "

  • "I took my wife and son to dinner for an early Mother's Day dinner. Although I made a reservation and arrived early, it still took awhile to be seated. The service was good and the food was great. I highly recommend Palmers. It is higher price than most, but the food and ambience are worth it. "

  • "It was a busy holiday and I think that was a factor in our service. We were seated on time but table service was lacking. Food was good and more than ample portions. Prices compare to other upscale restaurants. Would definitely return. Outside seating is waterside and very relaxing. Noisy inside."

  • "Not knowing Lexington, we picked a place that didn't require business casual dress so we could stay more comfortable, but had good food and the reviews looked promising. It didn't disappoint! We picked an earlier time than what we originally reserved. Worked out great as it's a popular place with the large mall next door. Service and servers were attentive and had great humor and personality. We had some of the best calamari for an appetizer to share. Our meals were the daily feature of Ahi tuna and the Shrimp and Grits. My husband, who isn't keen on grits, loved this dish as it wasn't just shrimp and grits....andouille sausage, tons of shrimp and cajun seasoning. My ahi was excellent with the brussel sprout slaw. A perfect choice!"

  • "For those who haven't gotten out of the grind of the restaurant chains, you will find this satisfying. For us, we like the smaller, more inventive places and the food here had the appearance and taste of a more assembly line approach. Perfectly fine for a meal or drink where your expectations are not too high, though."

  • "Our trip to Palmers was first rate in every area. The service was fast, friendly and professional. The food was exceptional and worthy of any fine dining establishment. We will be back every visit time we visit Lexington. "

  • "I refrained from characterizing this restaurant from the first two visits, each time hoping things would improve. With many venues in town for red meat, I hoped that Palmers would be a place to order fish. Unfortunately, each time, my moderately sized portion of fish was overcooked to the point of toughness (cooking instructions for grilled fish should not need to be part of my order). Again, the wine selection, this time a sauvignon blanc, was severely overpriced (a 400% markup for this familiar New Zealand vintage) with few reasonable alternatives for a dry white. When discussing this with our server, her response was that some diners enjoy the leathery texture. I hope that Palmers isn't aiming their cuisine for such masochists."

  • "Stopped in for lunch while visiting UK with my daughter. It was quiet but very nice with pretty view of the lake and they had a great menu. Too chilly to dine outside - too bad. The service and food was wonderful especially the Truffle Fries!"

  • "Thanks to Open Table I was able to find a table at Palmer's at the last minute for Easter Brunch. We were pleasantly surprised at the prices. The food was very tastey and plentiful. The hush puppies were a hit with our whole family. We also ordered the chicken egg rolls. They were full, but the flavour was a bit flat despite the kick of spice. My shrimp tacos were overflowing with good-sized shrimp. I counted seven in one taco. This was a good choice and one I do not hesitate to recommend. About an hour before our reservation I called to request an outdoor table. After an unnecessarily, long explanation of why it was possible this was accommodated. The staff were all courteous and did their jobs well. "

  • "It was a bit noisy but it's not a quiet romantic, atmosphere- but quite beautifully decorated & the food is very good! We enjoyed very much."

  • "Had an early lunch with my daughter (she's 3) and my sister. The food was wonderful, as was the service! Kid friendly & delicious! Would also be a great place for a date, or to just hang out in the evening! Two thumbs up!"

  • "The service wasn't bad but our waiter forgot to put in the order and didn't realized until an hour after we ordered. He awkwardly apologized and promptly had our food out to us. The management staff took care of us and resolved the issue. Overall a good time. Food was great!"

  • "We had a 'delicious' dinner and visit. Great decor, food and service. The view of the lake is an added bonus. Thank you Palmers!"

  • "Very Good Seafood and Service. A little chilly to eat outside the night that we dined, but nice facilities for the warmer months. Inside provided a very nice ambiance that could also accommodate groups. Nice, well stocked bar. We Enjoyed our dinner."

  • "The menu offers a more interesting variety of dishes and flavors than is common in the area. Healthy food choices are available as well as deliciously decadent items. My favorites are the calamari and peppers appetizer, the pretzel crusted trout and the shrimp and smoked gouda cheese grits entrees, and the salt caramel bread pudding dessert. Thanks to the chef for offering creative nuances to otherwise familiar dishes. All menu items are reasonable in price. Servers are attentive without being intrusive and exceptionally knowledge about both the drink and menu items. One of the best dining experiences I have had in Lexington in a very long time. Definitely jumps to the top of my list of personal local favorites."

  • "My husband and I really enjoyed this place. The calamari appetizer was absolutely delicious. The wine list was good and beer selections were extensive. I got the pretzel crusted trout, which was wonderful and accompanied by a very flavorful mix of garlicky sautéed spinach, new potatoes, and capers. I enjoyed every bite. My husband ordered the burger, which was large and cooked perfectly and he really liked the pretzel bun. The server was excellent. Very friendly, attentive and welcoming, but not overbearing. The decor is beautiful and I liked the elegant all-white theme. We were seated by a window, which allowed us to enjoy the view of the ducks swimming around as the sun was setting. We'll definitely go back and recommend to others!"

  • "Dropped in on a Tuesday night with out of town guests. Seated immediately. Service started slowly but steadily picked up speed. Meals arrived in good time and we're perfectly prepared. Meals ranged from scallops & bone-in pork hop to pinko tilapia and petit filet, each prepared to order. Palmers is a little pricey for Tuesday night but we'll worth it."
