Palm Restaurant - TribecaMom's DayMy mother and I went here for Mother's Day. It's one of her favorite restaurants. The food is delicious and the staff is great. There was a group in the private room who were getting increasingly louder and louder though. It was hard to hear the conversation at our table. But we will definitely be back. The only negative comment we all have is that the service is very slow. We appreciate not being rushed out as other restaurants in the area tend to do, but taking two hours out for lunch is not usually possible. The slow service has nothing to do with the wait staff--we have always found all of the staff to be extremely friendly and accommodating, and I feel the "slow" service is more about allowing guests to enjoy their lunch. Considering most of the lunchtime clientele can typically get away for an hour or slightly more, it makes it difficult for us to dine at Palm. First of all, your service is OUTSTANDING. Every visit was a superb experience and the attendance of waiters and staff was terrific.
Now, some criticism that I hope you take as a positive token to improve the quality of your food:
1. Please,please, please use LESS oil. The fish I had once was "swimming" in the excess of oil. Then brussel sprouts also had too much of it. So watch out for it please.
2. Cakes - change the Chef who bakes them. I've head 3 types: lemon cake, cheesecake and chocolate cake. These deserts don't match your style. They're really horrible and you should re-consider changing them all.

Appetizer: We ordered the fried calamari and the bacon scallop wrap. Both were mediocre. Bland and plain. I probably wouldn't order them ( or any appetizer ) again... We were worried that the appetizer was forecasting the meal..
Entrees: Between my family and I, we ordered the New York Strip 14oz, Rib Eye 24oz, Lamb Chops and Chilean Sea Bass. UMMM .. everything was ... SO GREAT. The Rib Eye was smoked JUST RIGHT. The sea bass, FRESH. My NYstrip was flavorful. I don't like lamb but my brother said it was good.

The food has been always excellent but the service we received was OUTSTANDING!! Right from the person who took us to our table to the persons who took our order, served us bread, wine, the main course and dessert. The staff is the VERY BEST of any Palm that we ever visited. Food was fantastic--again. 14oz Filet and Chilean Sea bass were simply seasoned and perfectly cooked. So were the sides of creamed spinach and au gratin potatoes. The service is always great, with friendly wait staff, gracious managers, and superb bartenders. The bar scene is lively, with healthy pours. The oysters, tuna tartare, and shrimp appetizers are always fresh and bursting with flavor. 837 club good.
Known for their great steaks, their 3-5 lb lobsters, lamb chops, and sea bass are terrific. Great sides, especially hash browns and green beens with almonds and pancetta. Creme brulee is sublime.
The wine list is extensive, but that's the only big downside: it's far too marked up. I've paid $57 for a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay at a good restaurant--about $17 over retail--but at the Palm it's usually near $100. Everything from the hospitality, the beverages, food and timeliness of service was outstanding. The Palm once again showed why it is of the "upper echelon" of steakhouses and restaurants based on overall experience. Lol.....delicious steak and we had a great service from Brett our waiter. The only negative was the host Chris we arrived 15 min early and he said to seat on the bar that was no problem.... We got upset when we saw him calling people to sit down ,,,,nobody went to get us..... My wife and I had the prix fixe menu of lobster bisque, coffee and ancho rubbed 9oz filet. The meals did not come with any sides (except for a couple of roasted tomatoes), so we ordered single portions of the creamed spinach and has browns. Everything was prepared perfectly-high quality cut of meat!
Jeff as our server. While a little eccentric, he was is incredibly nice and not too high-brow at all (unlike some steakhouse waiters). He was knowledgeable about the menu and made some great drink picks.
The dining room's walls are adorned with caricatures of celebreties--some signed. Once you get over have a few hundred faces staring at you (and when the lights were dimmed), the atmosphere's pretty nice.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
