One of our favorite restaurants in gas lamp district. We were there on last day it was open. Sad to see it go away so many good memories. We lover the shrimp Bruno appetizer. My wife I split surf and turf, bone in filet with lobster. So very good. The only problem was that we were too full to order desert. We will miss this location.

The Palm was by far the best steak resturant in the Gaslamp, but unfortunately they lost their lease. Outstanding food and service every time we dined there. We will visit other Palm Resturants in other cities, but I doubt they will live up to the service of Adam and his staff. Luckily for us, most of the staff has been hired at other downtown venues which will surely upgrade their service.

We were looking for a great steakhouse, and this fell way short of that. If you want a decent meal with a big bill this is the place for you. I would have much rather gone back to Ruth Chris, Morton's or Donovan's. We ordered the carpaccio and it was dry and way overly salty. Steaks were fine, I could have grilled it myself at home and been just as pleased. We will not be returning, but it was not a horrible meal. We could have gone to the Outback for a quarter of the price and been just as happy.

We are frequent diners at The Palm in San Diego and this last meal was one of the very best. Service was phenomenal, steak was done perfectly, the asparagus fritti was as good as ever, and there was a sizable crowd in the restaurant. It's a terrible shame that they are being closed down by corporate on 31 December. We will try to come by one last time before they close the doors - I recommend that everyone try to do the same!

As this location of the Palm Restaurant is closing the end of December 2013, it is probably the reason the food was a little under what was expected. The staff and the service were great. Being senior citizens, we usually choose to share each item we order. Most restaurants do not charge for this but the Palm charges for each item you share.

I have dined at several of the palm establishments and have rarely been disappointed. The San Diego restaurant is one of my favorites. The staff is congenial, the food is well prepared and always hot when it arrives at your table. My only criticism, on this visit, was that the entree took about fifteen minutes to arrive, after we had finished with our first course. Not a huge problem but it did seem unusual as the restaurant was not extremely busy.

This was not our best Palm experience. I'll start by saying that we're big Palm fans, and generally love our meals there. But this dinner was marred by two seemingly simple problems--one is that they were out of the featured wine (that was even still being advertised on a table tent), and didn't even offer a substitute. They were also out of crab legs, which is pretty unforgivable for a restaurant of this caliber. But the worst part was our server, who didn't miss a chance to tell us how wonderful he was, how much better he was than all the other servers, etc. Every time he stopped by it was to compliment himself again. Needless to say, this got annoying.

My husband and I have been coming here monthly for years and we just found out that they are closing this location at the end of the year. We are so saddened to hear this. We drive downtown San Diego from Carlsbad to experience all that the Palm has to offer...absolutely the best food and service, A++++++ What more can you want from a restaurant? It's so great here that we have added a few more visits before they close at the end of December to get our Palm fix. Now the closest Palm restaurant is in Los Angeles and that is too far!!!! If you get a chance you should give them a try before they are gone, so that you too can experience the wonderful world of the Palm, San Diego. BTW, I think they are making a big mistake leaving our area!!!!!!

I am a big fan of the Palm and have dined at many locations including the original. However my experience at this location in San Diego wasn't up to par. The steak was ok - not great; the vegetables were burnt and the service was simply annoying. I think our server had only one line "take your time" which was repeated when asking for more butter or ordering wine. Just not the special place I associate as the Palm.

The Palm is a classic steak house. That is good thing and a bad thing. With San Diego having so many new restaurants, their is so much great food. I think that the Palm has lost its touch. It is a 1980's steak house with patrons that have a 2013 taste buds. I don't think I will be coming back to the Palm until they add more of a variety to their menu. Restaurants such as Truluck's in La Jolla puts the Palm to shame an offer the same food but it taste so much better. I'm sad to see such a great restaurant not adapting to the times but not everything needs to change. The Palm is going to have their consistent clientele but it is going to be hard to keep a foodie like myself coming back.

Place was out of date with no energy to speak of. Place was dead with few tables occupied. Wine list was extensive but markup was also. I had the New York strip instead of my usual filet based on the recommendation of our server and was disappointed. Steak was tougher than I am used to when ordering this cut. They really need to work on joining the next generation in terms of atmosphere if they want to attract my business again.

We showed up for our reservation at 545pm on Saturday evening and the place was very, very quiet. By the time we left, it did pick up a little. The dining room is rather unassuming and not very elegant. My wife and son had the 9oz filet which was very tender and flavorful. I had the 18oz New York strip which was flavorful but not very tender. The brussels sprout side was good. The potatoes au gratin were excellent. Overall, it was a great meal, not terrific, but great. The service was very good and the staff was very attentive to our needs.

This makes my 4th time visiting this location. I strongly recommend to the Chef at the Palm that they examine the gravy-like texture of their lobster bisque. This is the 2nd time I've ordered it, and both times it has been as thick as gravy and ultimately because I was the guest of a friend didn't send it back but when I asked about the texture, the bus boy said, "it's always like that". Note: bisque is not suppose to be the texture of gravy. Also ordered the crab cakes and thought the breading and red peppers overpowered the magic of the crab. Let the crab speak for itself. Had carrot cake for dessert which is a large portion we shared between 3 of us and it was great! Please re-do the bisque recipe - please?.

We came here for restaurant week and had a great experienece. I had the roasted red pepper and tomato soup, New York strip with creamed spinach, and cheesecake. My boyfriend had the wine poached pear salad, fish with heirloom tomatoes, scalloped potatoes, and bread pudding. Topped off with a bottle of wine, this meal was delicious. And the portions were huge - we ate leftovers for breakfast and lunch. Definitely hoping to return if they have a lobster special again, which I kept reading about on yelp. Overall, a great place for a special occasion.

My husband and I went to the Palm Restaurant during restaurant week. We ordered off the prepared menu - both order fillets - my husband upgraded to the larger filet. I ordered brussel sprouts as well and lobster bisque. The bisque was divine...some of the best I've tasted! I had to send the brussel sprouts back as they were almost burnt...the waiter agreed and brought back some perfectly cooked sprouts. It wasn't until we received the bill that the "filet" my husband order was actually a sirloin...he said no wonder it didn't taste right. I order the bread pudding for dessert; however, they ran out, but the mgr was kind enough to give us some homemade donuts on the house. The cheesecake & flourless chocolate cake were fabulous too!

Restaurant Week brought us in, but the outstanding food & service will bring us back. We reserved 3 restaurants during SDRW, and Palm was the hands down winner. Filet Mignon was perfect and the presentation well done - loved the caramelized onions, & Bearnaise. The lobster bisque, , , all I can say is “just get it”. Very long Wine list, with extensive by-the-glass choices - my wine was great. Flawless service, from the front door, dining room & even management checking on things - nothing was overlooked. The bread pudding & Italian coffee was the piece de resistance. Can't wait to return!
