Food was great, but the waiter (Rafael) was horrendous. Throughout the meal we repeated several things, which made us question his grasp of English. We put a credit card and some cash with the check to be split. He quickly grabbed the check not allowing us to explain. Upon his return, Rafael had the full order on the credit card and left the cash. He asked if we wanted change. When we explained it was supposed to be for the bill he put it in his pocket and said thank you and walked away. We called him back to explain it was supposed to be for the bill, but he did not understand. The issue that my group had with the restaurant was the quality of the steaks. Having read many reviews, we had very high expectations for the food. The appetizers that we ordered (calamari, cocktail shrimp and salad) were wonderful. But then came the steaks. The inside of the steaks was cooked great, buttery and soft in your mouth. However, the outside of the steaks was so charred that it left a bitter taste in your mouth that overpowered the quality of the steak itself. From the host to the serving team the experience was second to none. We have traveled all over the world and this by far was a five star experience. The Palm's Nova Scotia Lobster is truly one of life's delights. It was served perfectly with hot butter and delicious sides. We recommend the Brussel Sprouts and the creamed spinach. Although we did not have it this time, our favorite desserts are the New York Cheesecake with fresh strawberries and the decadent chocolate cake.
We had a small private little table upstairs away from the usual clatter and bustle of all Palm's at busy dinner time.

As an old time Palm diners we are used to better attention the waiter seemed to disappear for long periods, our double steak appeared, but he didn't. When the attentive Bus Man came to carve the steak, an old time Palm Water came over and did the carving. Though it was my very first time visiting in March '13, I had an immediate feeling stepping through the door of being a welcomed initiate. It felt like a bit of magic walking past the tables of knowing guests, the walls of the room covered with caricature of nearly a century of NY history. It wasn't but a moment or two upon arriving at our table that my smiling guest and I hardily agreeded just how cool the place was! The sevice was old world, gracious, fun and personable. And the food was excellent, as well.
