Diner Reviews
  • "lobster was very good although they would not find us a female unless it was broiled ( we wanted ours steamed) told us they had no raisin rolls, ( they did) i guess the better service goes to men that come in and order lots of alcohol and steaks."

  • "been going to the Palm since the 1980's the steaks continue to be the best in NYC and the Jumbo Lobsters are legendary However it is not the same since "BIG AL" left"

  • "Had a vy nice time with husband and daughter. Clams casino, lobster bisque and bacon very tasty; lobster vy good although a little disappointed we couldn't get anything smaller than a 4 pounder so two of us had to share in order for one of us to have the dish. Service extremely accomodating."

  • "Their food was absolutely delicious. I had the N.Y Strip Steak and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. My wife had the salmon, and she enjoyed it as well. The Hash Browns for a side potato dish was terrific. Our waitress was very helpful and very pleasant. She suggested which steak I should order."

  • "Always love going to The Palm. Menu and food wonderful. Staff always professional and enjoyable. But, very pricey will not be a regular customer."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday with dinner at the Palm One restaurant. Our waiter, Noe was great, all of the staff that we encountered were friendly and upbeat. Everything in our meal from the clams casino, filet mignon to the 7 layer carrot cake was awesome. I would go back again for sure."

  • "I think after this time at the Palm we have realized that at this Palm and the the Theatre District Palm were heavy on the salt. As always the waiters are wonderful"

  • "Quality is only surpassed by the great service. cleanliness seems to be a high priority."

  • "love it. The best steak house in NYC by far. Been going since I was a kid and it still amazing as ever. Plus with the new additions to the menu it will satisfy everyone. We take our kids and they are Palm lovers at age 10 & 12. Love the shrimp bruno, half & half, sirloin with au povire and cream spinach is a must. Plus we never leave without the decadent chocolate cake. Enough for the whole table to share."

  • "We love the food at the Palm! There were 3 of us - 2 of us shared the lobster special and 1 of us had prime rib. All of us were very, very happy with our choices. Our waiter was very attentive. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This is a review for Palm One. It's the older of the group and very special. 5 pound shared lobster was sweet tender and juicy. Baked clams were awesome. Service was very friendly while being extremely professional. We definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on returning."

  • "We went to the palm one to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday upon arrival we were greeted warmly and we were shown to the bar we were waiting for people and we were seated at exactly our reservation time I explained it was my birthday and we had a nice round table in the front our waiter was out standing we will definitely be back thank you for"

  • "The lobster was over-cooked and a bit chewy; what was supposed to be 4 lbs was no more than 3...... The special price was not special!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Our dinner was good but not amazing. Our steaks arrived alone-a lone piece of meat- not even a leaf or other adornment. All is a la carte. Vegetables can be purchased "family" style. I thought that, for the price, the steaks would be larger, the sides more tasty (the hash browns were tasteless) and unique, and certainly included with the price of steak. It is two narrow restaurants linked together, with a middle aisle on each side- we sat in a booth- which was not an amazing set up for a pricey restaurant. Upstairs was empty the night we were there but is set up with tables (the bathroom is also up there) but I would've been very disappointed if we had been assigned to sit up there. Would recommend specifying you want to sit downstairs."

  • "I had requested a quiet/romantic table for 2. Was never told ahead of time that this is not an option. I've been to a lot of high-end steakhouses before but $300 for dinner for 2 is crazy."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Other than the venerable Peter Lugar's, there is not a better steak place in the country...The original Palm Restaurant is noisy and often crowded, but none of that matters. The steak is cooked EXACTLY as you requested and their side of "half and half" ( half fried crunchy onions and half crispy freshly fried crunchy potato chips) is to die for. If your group if large enough you might try the fried calamari, chopped salad, lobster cocktail, (or a whole lobster cut up as a shared appetizer) and the creamed spinach. It doesn't get better than The original Palm."

  • "A group of 4 odined there June 14th, we loved the kookiness of the place. The tables was too small for 4 - a theme in NYC to cram as many in as poss -.The menu was fairly large & sounded great unless you're a vegetarian ( no meat ,fish or seafood) - like 1 in our party. There was not 1 vegetarian option on menu, we asked the waiter who just shrugged and said they could offer some plain pasta? - she chose 3 side vegetables off the menu as her entree ( mashed potato, asparagus & mushrooms) - what arrived was a huge platter (portion size is not problem here) with 6 side veg options on it ( 3 not ordered)- including 1 wrapped in bacon! Overall the ervice was not very attentive and not what one would expect from a place you pay $580 for 4!"

  • "I have been to the Palm in Las Vegas, very good, service and food. This time I was disappointed. The veggie that I got was burned, was sent back, the steak, also tasted burnt, on the edges that it made the flavor of the steak different."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "I just don't get it. many restaurants play loud, very low-brow noise (it is NOT music). For me, and for almost everyone I know, this spoils the entire experience. the food at Palm was quite good, but the noise is nearly intolerable. It's often a mystery as to who selects the music and regulates the volume control. It must be a wholly deaf troglodyte."

  • "Bes Father's Day ever - Great Food - Great Service! The Palm always delivers!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Food was really good. My steak was pretty rare on on healdsburg rather than medium-rare, which is why I gave them 4 stars. The ambiance was a bit different than I was expecting. I was expecting something more elegant, but there were caricatures all over the wall and guys dressed in red windbreakers. I would still go here again but would put on a pair of jeans and leave the sport coat at home."

  • "The staff at The Palm made me feel like a VIP from the minute i walked in, till the minute I left. It was my fiance's birthday, and without having to grease an palms (no pun intended) they went out of their way to make our night great. Cannot say how much i appreciated the service. Naturally a nice big tip was in order, and well deserved."

  • "Perfectly done steaks (one rare, one medium well - few chefs can do both!). Staff were friendly (of course, so were we) and helpful. We were in early on a weeknight, so they were not very busy. Their on-site historian solicitously helped me find a particular charicature from the 1920's. Service and food were much better than I expected from grumpy reviewers. Menu was not that kid-friendly, until we got to the bag of hot fresh doughnuts for dessert. Yum! Will try to come back, when next in town."

  • "Nothing has changed here in forever. The quintissential New York steakhouse. Everything we love about the place is the same as always. Noisy, friendly and alwaus busy. Great syeaks and lobsters. The sides are lovely."

  • "The Palm is a restaurant you can count on no matter the location or even the city! Always know what to expect, and expect good quality and great service. Yum!"

  • "The dinner was greet and the service was second to none. We come to NYC a couple of times a year and will come back to the palm. if you want the total experence you will want to ask for Jay."

  • "As members of the Palm 837 club enjoying Palm's both Los Angeles and San Diego on a recent trip to NYC we tried the "original" one on 2nd Avenue. We were quite disappointed The steak was done the way we ordered and was tasty but not terrific, the noise level was high, the service was good. The main complaint we would have is although it is "the original" and they may want to keep the character of it, we thought it was pretty tired and in need of rejuvenation. We also had an interesting issue, we made the reservation on Open Table, received confirmation, went to the restaurant on time, checked in, was seated and eat, but they canceled the reservation and we did not get the Open Table points or 837 club credit. Not a big deal but disturbing."

  • "We went as a group of a 12 for a family celebration. Our server was outstanding and his bedside manner was perfect and interactive. Vern (I think). It was at 2:30 in the afternoon, so it was quiet and the food an ambiance matched perfectly for the occasion being celebrated. I've always enjoyed the Palm, in other cities, and this was right on par. A+"

  • "Initial impression was that I felt so badly for the couple that was sitting next to the guy checking guests in. Was happy when we were seated upstairs. Our order was taken quickly and appetizers and dinner came promptly; then I guess it got busy and our waiter was overwhelmed. After dinner was sat for at least 20-30 minutes just waiting for someone to ask us if we wanted coffee/dessert. My husband got impatient and asked the hostess where our waiter was. When he came over, he didn't even apologize. Food was good, service was lacking; not sure that we would go back. On our way out of the restaurant, it was so awkward; I felt like I was interupting people's dinner. It was very difficult to get out, the way the first floor is set up."

  • "I remember Palm for its fun caricatures on the walls, great service, terrific steaks. The caricatures are still there, much the worse for wear. The service is still excellent. The noise level prevents normal conversation. And the steaks, well: My NY strip was gristly and tough. Sent back, it was replaced by a filet whose appearance and taste were disappointing. My guest's prime rib was perfectly cooked and very good. At least that is what he said. The next day, sliced for sandwiches, it, too, was a challenge to eat for all the gristle. Palm now has a growing number of competitors. The small, original Palm was full the night we were there. Go figure."
