Pallet is a new and entirely refreshing extension of Salt Lake’s downtown dining circuit. Marked by a chef-inspired menu that is imaginative, elegant and simple, Pallet’s timeless design and smart vibe make an ideal setting for your next culinary experience. Located in a restored brick building built in 1901, the restaurant’s name pays homage to its roots; for many years it served as a busy loading dock for Salt Lake Valley’s first creamery.

Pallet’s menu is a clever take on casual fine dining, with choice ingredients and inventive creations, such as Sweet-Beet Salad with Goat-Cheese Mousse, and Scallops with barley, stone fruit and salted caramel.   • "Great restaurants are on the rise in SLC! I used be frequent Pallet as they first opened but hadn't been in 6 months or so. I took friends to Pallet for an early dinner on Saturday and was reminded of why and how much I love Pallet. Between the dim, sultry but romantic ambiance, friendly service, unique cocktails and delicious food, what's not to love! Every meal I have had at Pallet requires several order of truffle fries with plenty of special aioli dipping sauce, which changes regularly, tonight's was a green onion and lemon aioli (YUM) I dream of Pallet's scallops but I tried their new Bass dish, which was perfect in every way. I am already planning my next visit, thanks to the Pallet staff keep up the good cooking and cocktail shakin."

  • "The food was wonderful, however, it seemed to fall short of the 27.00-30.00 per plate we paid. We had the special (seared trout w/ tomatoes & bulgur) and the steak with spicy mac & cheese. Our server was wonderful, perfectly attentive & knowledgeable. The candlelight was a little dim, making hit hard to read my grease stained menu. Apple slices w/ salt & ?? were served as an amuse. Odd flavor, could have passed on the apple slices. Drop the prices & you have an awesome neighborhood gathering spot. Otherwise, save your money and try another restaurant for that special occasion."

  • "really nice interior, has a cool vibe, but the server did not describe the food very well. I felt like I was in some really pretentious cafe. The meal I ordered was described as heavy, well the boar was two tiny Kabobs, 3 bits each..... no one is getting filled up on that. My advice is order a couple appetisers the main couse is tiny tiny tiny. Way too proud of the selves."

  • "Overall, very good, and I will go back, however I thought the prices were quite high for the food. My rizzoto was very tasty, but the portion was somewhat small. I am a meat & potatoes kinda guy, so I was not impressed with apple slices instead of bread on the table. The meal was very good, but the portion was on the small side for for price. I noticed the lady next to me ordered some kind of meat dish. It looked like a small appetizer to me, yet that was her full dinner. Taste was excellent, service was outstanding, and ambience was nice. Only downside was cost, for what I was served."

  • "This restaurant is pretty dark, so it takes a while to let your eyes adjust so you can see your date. The service and early plates started off great - the pork belly, salads and soup was wonderful. However, things went downhill pretty quickly from there. The entrees were not good; the raviolli was too sweet for a savory dish and the bass was seared on the outside but raw in the middle. We had such a hard time getting our server to clear our entree plates that we decided against ordering dessert. It took another 15 minutes for us to get our check and another 15 minutes for her to process it. This place has tremendous potential - just needs more attention to the details and could do really well."

  • "Actually the appetizers AND the entrees were both very good. The meatballs were the best of the appetizers ordered. We also had the grits, gnocchi, mussels, and truffle fries at our table. The gnocchi was my least favorite of the group and I really like gnocchi. Everyone seemed disappointed with their desserts. Pretty sure we had ordered most of the desserts with our party of nine. However, I would definitely go again as I REALLY liked my scallops. My wife had the NY steak and liked it and she really isn't a meat eater, so it was kind a strange choice for her. Overall would definitely recommend. Service was was solid."

  • "We went to Pallet on Valentine's Day and took part in the prix fixe menu. Out of the ten courses served between the two of us we only thought two of them (the filet and scallops) were great. For spending over $200 I expect a lot more. Furthermore, the two cocktails I ordered were awful. My husband did enjoy his though. I had high expectations for this visit and was completely let down. I want to say I would go back to try the regular menu, but I'm not sure how soon I will after this bad experience. Just as a note, we like spending money on good food and drink, but we expect to get what we paid for. This was a big letdown. I know it was a holiday & a prix fixe menu, but if you want to be a great restaurant you should be consistent."

  • "My wife and I have been to Pallet a few times, and each visit seems better than the previous. (We come with high expectations). We share a variety of appetizers and main course dinners. Everything on the menu is prepared with exquisite culinary skill. Our wait persons are always knowledgeable, kind, thorough, but never intrusive. The wine list, though not extensive, is fairly priced and offers a fine variety."

  • "Made a reservation for midweek dinner. Apps were good (pork belly & gnocchi pillows) The entree, NY Steak w/ mac & cheese sounded great however the steak had far too much gristle throughout the cut. The cippolini onions & baked mac & cheese were very good but the steak failed. Flour-less chocolate cake for dessert was very good. Service was standard & pleasant. The vibe was cool with thoughtful artwork. However the HUGE downfall for me was how dim and poorly lit our seating was. Had to use the small table candle to read the menu. Not quite sure what atmosphere they're going for but when I can't read the menu it's a WTF moment. Maybe provide penlights? Overall slightly over priced.($15 corkage fee as well) Maybe lunch but not dinner again."

  • "Very pleasantly surprised by Pallet Bistro. The food was delicious and creative, the ingredients of the highest quality and the menu interestingly varied without being too extensive. The highlight for us was the Hamachi tuna with green peppercorn sorbet. A very unusual yet successful combination. The decor was a very trendy warehouse-chic with a mild steampunk vibe. If we had one criticism, it was that the lighting levels were just a touch too low. Would have been great to see the beautifully presented food a little better. But a must if you are in SLC."

  • "My wife and I tried Pallet for the first time this past weekend and were definitely not disappointed. The service was amazing. The hostess gathered our coats for us as soon as we got to our table. The waitress was perfect. Very knowledgeable about the items on the menu as well as the restaurant itself. My wife had the ravioli with short ribs. It was cooked perfectly, with the short rib meat melting in your mouth. I had the New York steak, cooked to perfection, with broccolini and baked Macaroni and Cheese. Amazing. the truffle fries are a must try appetizer. They are fairly large, so they can easily be shared by a table for four or more."

  • "Pros: The food is excellent; the mixed drinks (created by award-winning mixologist, M.J.) are all outstanding -- and MJ wasn't even there. We had a reservation of 5, but 2 extra people showed up, and they made it work. The server was knowledgeable of the menu and all dishes are uniquely composed. Lighting was soft, warm, inviting to a lively group like ours while not alienating more romantic couples in the room. This place is all about details. Well worth the trip! Con: My wild boar was a little too chewy. All well-flavored, but I'd steer clear of the wild boar. My client also felt the same way."

  • "We celebrated our engagement and my fiance's birthday the same night here at Pallet. We could not have asked for better ambiance, better service, and the food was DELICIOUS. The only drawback was the noise level, but this didn't bother us as much as it could've bothered other couples. We will definitely book other occasions here, and I definitely recommend it to any couple looking for fine late-night dining."

  • "Pallet is one of our favorite spots for a nice dinner out in Salt Lake. The little building is stunningly cool, the waitstaff is helpful, and the food is amazing. Great cocktails (both alcoholic and non), fun appetizers, and the oatmeal walnut chocolate camel shortbread is absolutely not to be missed (seriously, if you eat only one dessert your entire life, this should be the one). They have multiple vegetarian or gluten free options throughout the menu. We do like to get there right after it opens because by 7:00 on a Friday it starts to get too loud for normal-volume conversation and you are liable to end up at a communal table. In the summer the patio is a great choice for quieter dining."

  • "The appetizers and brussell sprouts were good, but the boar was really tough and chewy. The service was fine until it was time for the check. We were a large party and I needed to leave earlier than the rest, I asked for the check, 30 minutes later she brought us all individual checks, I asked if she could run mine first but still everyone else got theirs taken care of before me, and she was snooty when I asked for a second time if she could please prioritize mine because I was in a hurry. The atmosphere was nice, but for the price I was not impressed by my overall experience. I will not return."
