Pallet is a new and entirely refreshing extension of Salt Lake’s downtown dining circuit. Located in a restored brick building built in 1901, the restaurant’s name pays homage to its roots; for many years it served as a busy loading dock for Salt Lake Valley’s first creamery.

Pallet’s menu is a clever take on casual fine dining, with choice ingredients and inventive creations, such as Sweet-Beet Salad with Goat-Cheese Mousse, and Scallops with barley, stone fruit and salted caramel.   • "We've been coming here since they first opened, and honestly the only two things that keep us coming back are the staff and the cocktails. Unfortunately the food pales compared to these. Without getting into specifics, there's just something off with the flavor profiles and presentation. One major note we all wanted to impart to the owners is that we wanted to sit outside, but it smelled like sewage and rotting food. One reason for this is because the restaurant's trash cans are sitting right there next to the tables. Something definitely needs to be done about that. In closing however, we just want to say that as a server coming from a fine-dining background myself, the service at Palett is always top-notch."

  • "My colleague and I were in town for a meeting. We wanted to enjoy a very good meal with fresh ingredients, a good wine selection and great service. Pallet delivered on all three of our requirements. Marygrace said the Scallops entree was one of the best preparations of scallops ever served to her. I enjoyed a sublime short rib with ravioli and an exquisite combination of wonderful flavors that were equally matched against the Zinfandel blend from the BUCKLIN ~ Old Hill Ranch Winery in Sonoma. A word of note -- Brian the Bartender is really a Mixologist with a great understanding about making a serious cocktail. He will not disappoint your expectations. The service staff is courteous and friendly. The dining room wows you too."

  • "Ate here for the second time a few nights ago. The setting is an old dairy warehouse/loading dock refurbished as shabby industrial chic. Brick walls, oil paintings, a typewriter positioned near the bathroom to amuse you if you have to wait. Had 2 great bourbon drinks with crazy names. An octopus app that was a bit chewy but had good flavor, a delicious baby beet salad and a ny steak with broccolini and house mac and cheese that was out of this world. I way overrate but I was so looking forward to visiting this little gem on my SLC trip. My only complaint is that we were a party of 3 wanting to add a 4th. No can do they said, fully booked, not enough chairs. Strangely the restaurant remained half empty throughout our dinner."

  • "Restaurant had a weird odor when we got there (and it wasn't the smell of food). Decor was great but the food was fair at best. Specialties like gnocchi was tasteless, truffle fries didn't tats like there wereANY truffles on them, only Parmesan cheese which why would you pur a strong tasting cheese like Parmesan to mask any truffles if there really were any. The Gorgonzola Mac and cheese also very bland and the meatballs would've knocked someone out if hit on the head with them they were so dense. Someone wrote a review at Yelp saying something about if from Brooklyn Pallet is a greatplace reminding the reviewer of NY. I'm from NY and this restaurant would not pass muster in the food dept for sure!"

  • "Our second time to Pallet, we could not wait to go back, and again our experience was outstanding. A truly unique menu, a beautiful presentation, and fabulous food! (best Scallops I have ever had). Everything we ordered was exceptional, from the Truffle Fries App thru dessert. Outstanding service, Chris was our waiter and I must say that he was without a doubt one of the finest waiters we have ever encountered in Salt Lake, (and that is many years of dining out). We will definitely be going back to Pallet again and again."

  • "The dining at the Pallet was not as wonderful as I had hoped, but the waitress was cheery and helpful. Salad was okay, but nothing outstanding. The tortellini was fabulous, very delicate flavors, but not really an entree portion--more like a side dish. Dessert was disappointing because the peach cobbler was made from unripe peaches--very hard and not good flavor. The recipe might have been very good had the peaches been ripe. The ambience is rustic and funky, but the chairs and window bench were not comfortable at all, not a place where you want to linger. Decaf coffee was very good--I'm hoping the decaf process was done with a water method, not chemicals."

  • "This was my second visit. I like the laid back, historic vibe with people committed to making the night special even if you are a solo. Made me a social bartenders choice gin cocktail and the bar tender and waiter both checked on whether I liked it. Had wonderful chicken liver app and sea bass cooked perfectly for the main. Always enjoy the people watching and the hip, but not trying too hard atmosphere. I will be back."

The dishes were flavoured beautifully and I enjoyed all of the ones I tasted however the oysters were a bit tired. My friends and I enjoyed the cocktails and loved the ambience. If I ever go to Salt Lake City again I will be sure to visit Pallet."

  • "I booked this restaurant to treat my adult kids; it fell totally below all expectations. Each of our dishes had major errors; i.e., salad greens that were brown and wimpy with tough, rubbery craisins; chicken that was chewy and unseasoned, celery root with the consistency of a pencil eraser. My daughter's mahi mahi was raw in the center, and the son-in-law's lamb chops were tough and dry. Top all of this off with the fact that service was impossibly slow -- 90 minutes for three courses with long waits in between, and a waitress who looked like she would rather be doing anything else. I don't mind paying when the experience is memorable, but I would not recommend this restaurant or be tempted to go back."

  • "I had a very pleasant first visit to Pallet. The hostess knew my first name and the waitress (Madelyn) was impeccable. To begin, I wanted to compare the Pallet Truffle fries to a recently tried offering from Santa Barbara, but was very disappointed. The fries were distinctly unspectacular in presentation or preparation. The lamb chops were tasty and nicely prepared, but seemed a bit pricey for 2 lamb chops. My companion diner's scallops were enjoyable, though again, I expected more. The menu is diverse and the ambience terrific. I shall return and hope for greater tastes to match the prices."

  • "The drinks were the highlight of this restaurant. The service and food were not impressive. Our waitress took a long time to come over to greet us and take our order. We waited 35 minutes for our food and were served the appetizer after the main dish because the server forgot to ring it in. The ravioli I got was over priced ($26 for a vegetarian version) and did not taste very good. The kitchen was excellent with our allergy but the food did not end up being impressive."

  • "I took my mom for Mother's Day and she loved it. We ordered the pork and ravioli. The pork was amazing, but we were not too fond of the ravioli. The ravioli shell was more tough and not too chewy. The environment and great service made up for it though! I would definitely go back, even just for drinks and dessert! "

Empty waters, didn't ask if we wanted more drinks when we were done with the ones we had, didn’t wipe down the table after she took our appetizers away. Didn’t even say thank you when she gave us the check. The food was good and well presented but not outstanding. "

The bartender was cocky and rude to. This is a stuffy place which falls flat in comparison to other incredible restaurants locally and in big cities.   • "You chose Pallet to celebrate my partner's dissertation defense and we had such a good time! The food is always outstanding and the service fantastic! We had the truffle fries (always great), the steak (comes with yummy mac and cheese), and the scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly! I think our server's name was Sarah Jo (?), and she was wonderful!! "

  • "I had a hard time finding it just because the sign is hard to see. Keep looking though, it's worth it. I'm always looking for new places and this was my first visit. It is one of the old industrial buildings that have been gentrified. It was supposedly Salt Lake's first creamery. It was an all dark antique wood interior. Anyway the food was innovative. I had the meatballs and the dish had different size sides and I thought I was having vertigo at first but the meatballs were wonderful!!! For my main dish I had the Scallops and they were big and to die for. Any way, give this place a chance it may be your cup of tea or not but I'll probably be back."

  • "The atmosphere of the place is unique steam punk feel. I requested bartenders choice drink as long as it ha an egg in it. He then told me what went into the drink and take on the flavors. Tailor made! First time in Utah has any bartender came up personally and let me know what was involved in the creation of the drink I had ordered. Truffle fries is recommended and lamb."
