I was surprised to learn that the restaurant did not have pasta on their menu the night I was there! I had the pork shoulder rendered in bacon fat which was heavenly. A bit heavier than I expected but the flavor was tremendous. We asked the waiter for a recommendation on a "rough" Chianti and he steered us in the perfect direction. he was very knowledgable about the wine list, thankfully, as no one at the table was versed in anything beyond California wines! There were few people in the restaurant and in face, I believe we were the only group dining there that evening. While the food and service were good, I do not think I would go back. There are so many Italian choices in San Franciso; this would not be a place I would recommend.

Food was of high quality and very nice presentation. Serving sizes were quite generous. Daily specials were nicely varied and unusual in composition. One of our guests had the special of blackened pasta (black from the ink of squid). I had a traditional New York steak, but the side dishes can be selected from a choice. I had the fresh green beans with almonds and the heirloom tomatoes with onions. Very delicious and full-flavored! The setting is "dressy casual" with table linens and the staff is very attentive. We enjoyed our meal very much - right down to the dessert. The tiramisu is 4 star.

The Palio D'asti did an outstanding job, especially when it came to giving us our checks. We needed separate ones and everywhere else in San Francisco gave us a really hard time about it. The waiter and the host were wonderful. They treated us like Queens.

I rated the ambiancw as good. It would ave been "very good" except there were fruit flies flying arond the table. I killed one and there were 2 more that popped out of nowhere! The scallops on the Prix Fixed were good except for the pickles. It didn't complement the scallops. The main crab pasta entree was exceptional and I would revisit just for that plate.

The food was not memorable. We tried the two dine about town menus. The appetizers were more attractive than tasty. The mains, pastas, were the size of appetizers. The desert, tiramisu was excellant. A second glass of wine finally arrive after the main course plates were removed. When the bill arrive, I noticed a charge of $4.50 for bread. I would have taken the breead in spite of the charge, but it would have been nice it if we would have been told of the charge in advance. The total bill, with coffee and 3 glasses of wine and tip was $129.00. My wife and I dine out frequently. Our taste buds were not surprised. Nothing new. There are many restaurants in SF. One would think that the Dine menu would be one that was intended to bring us bac

Food was excellent. Our server was really great. He was very pleasant and sensitive to our needs as we had two children with us. The manager checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were ok. The wine steward came immediately to our table when she noticed me fumbling with the wine list while trying to decide on what wine to order. She helped tremendously in selecting a wine that went perfectly with our meal. We have been to the restaurant several times and have never ever been disappointed. Our cousin who was visiting from out of town was impressed.

They even have tables in the patio outdoors if you would like to have a cigar and after dinner drink.(cigars on sale at the bar) Chef came over to our table twice to check on us. We left with a huge doggy bag. They even added some extra for us. We will definitely go back. We want to try everything.

Our server was not very pleasant especailly after we did not order appetizers and salads to compliment our meal. I understand that his gratuity would decrease based on our decision, but he should remain professional at all times. When we would ask him for assistance, he would point at us while he spoke to us. For example, he would ask "Any dessert," while pointing at me. ""Would you like more water," while pointing at my friend. His behavior was not fitting to the restaurant's elegant decor and compared to other servers, his manners were quite unappealing. I have had lunches there before, and I was never treated this way. This experience has given me seconds thaoughts about choosing Palio for my next lunch.

On those occasions, our request has always been honored. The hostess advised that she had just seen the request when we walked in and all booths were taken. Would not go back, nor would I recommend... This place has really, really gone way downhill. Our server was cut during our dinner, before 8pm on a friday...the wine was turned, the entre was ill-conceived, the pasta course was ok, the 'new' server was rarely to our table, the name on the birthday plate was of the wrong person, yet all during the 'meal' the chef kept coming to our table to apologize, and was truly sincere; yet too many things went way wrong. It was an embarassing disaster of a birthday dinner for my guest, as well as myself.
