A word from Palazzo Giuseppe
Welcome to Palazzo Giuseppe’s, downtown San Luis Obispo! Our Italian regional specialties are indicative to the Pugliese region in Italy, particularly Bari, a seaport on the Adriatic Sea from which most of our recipes originate. We hope you will enjoy and appreciate our great loyalty to the distinctive dishes, all of which we prepare with genuine and natural ingredients and methods. Our bread is baked from scratch every day in a wood-burning oven imported from Italy. Each loaf is made by hand, allowed to rise four times and slow-cooked to achieve the truly rustic appearance and taste you would find in a Baresi seaside village. DiFronzo is dedicated to producing & growing as many heirloom, organic vegetables, & fruits from his family farm as possible. Gelato, pizzas, & specialties including his estate grown Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, & Syrah. All of this takes time but to us it is an art and a labor of love. We are truly committed to bringing you "cucina genuina."

Palazzo Giuseppe reviews from OpenTable diners
  • We always loved Palazzo Giuseppe
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 6/25/2011
We always loved Palazzo Giuseppe for the high quality of their food. On this evening, the food was still outstanding and creative. The mene simply does not disappoint. On the flipside, the bartender seems to be incapable to mix proper drinks. We ordered three Mojitos which could best be described as water with some sprinkle of alcohol and drowned in ice cubes and mint. As passionate Mojito drinkers, we had all of our Mojitos remade (or replaced), but the result was still very much lacking. After adding a shot of Bacardi and some brown sugar to at least get somewhat close to the expected result. Summarizing, stay away from the drinks!

Excellent Food!! One complaint -- I ordered a glass of wine with my dinner. I was finished with my dinner and no wine. Had to ask a gentlemen that came to our table to ask how our food was to get the glass of wine.

  • NASTY HOSTESS- Avoid this place!

I will never forget this restaurant! I had the most absolute worst experience with a very nasty young hostess! When we approached her to check in she did not acknowledge us. I mentioned our name and that we had been told that we would have the Wine Room - private room. We did not request this, the restaurant told us we would have it bc our party was so big. She said it wasn't avaialable, showed us to a table for 4 that they were trying to cram 9 people on! I said it was right near the door (a foot away) and she said "I TOLD you that we would not be using that door" in a very sarcastic nasty voice. She said "do you want it or not?" again in a nasty voice. It was nothing less than shocking to me. To be treated so hatefully by a young girl!

We were seated promptly and service was very good thoughout the meal. While not the best Italian restaurant we've been to in CA was was certainly among the top 10. Loved the selection of half bottles on the wine list allowing spouse and I to each have the wine we liked best rather than having to compromise.

  • Rainy Night Table in Covered Patio
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/19/2011
Palazzo Guiseppes is a favorite Italian Restaurant. I booked a table through "OpenTable.com" Requesting a round table for everyone to be able to converse and enjoy time there. Unfortunately the only round table was in the covered patio. We asked the hostess if we may move inside. She replied tables are reserved. So we 6 sit in the covered patio in a corner next to a leafy plant FREEZING from the rain. A space heater was setup to keep us all warm. Sadly, only 3 of us 6 got warm. Hostesss was terrible! Service was o.k. After paying checks and leaving, we all noticed the inside reserved tables empty? Common Palazzo Guiseppes, this was not good. Our party should have been taken better care of on a rainy, cold night with reservations.

People were nice as can be. The bread and dipping oil for it is amazing. Drinks were really strong. My fiance enjoyed her prawns and ravioli, and I got the lamb. The lamb was okay, a little over cooked. I did not enjoy the breading on the lamb. In my opinion it took away from the flavor of the meat itself.

I love Palazzo Giuseppe, the food and atmosphere are always great. This last time we went, however, the experience was marred by a long wait. We arrived on time for our reservation and still waited over an hour to be seated. On the bright side, the lobster ravioli was to die for!

Usually Giuseppe's is a wonderful restaurant. But this time, the cocktails were terrible and did not even feature items listed on the menu, the food portions for salads were half the size as usual and the waiter tried hard to make us order more expensive items.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The food has great potential. Calamari was over cooked which was chewy, but tasty with the added broccoli. The spicy red sauce was more a simple marinara sauce. The Clams Linguine was well done with a really yummy broth and pasta cooked perfectly. The Caesar was good but was a little too heavily dressed. Just a little more finesse and attention to detail and this restaurant will rock.

Very good food! Had the Della Citta salad, the Tortelloni Giuseppe and a pasta dish I can't recall the name of. It had hand rolled "Priest Stranglers" (strangolapreti?) in a cream sauce and was delicious. My only complaint was the server who disappeared after we got the meal. The wait for her to return to get the check was ridiculous.
