Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner at the Palace Café was a wonderful experience. The setting is casually elegant. The attentive and friendly service begins as soon as you are led to your table, with a loaf of warm bread. The wine list is presented, the dishes explained, the water glasses never allowed to be empty. I started with a slice of crab cheesecake- srumptious- and then I had catfish for the first time ever. It was covered with pecans on a bed of squash and was totally delicious. My husband's choices were equally wonderful. This town is full of wonderful meals, but dinner at the Palace Café must be at the top if the list."

  • "There is something for everyone at the Palace Café! The best dishes among the many delicious options were the Crabmeat Cheesecake, the Seafood Gumbo, and the Pasta St. Charles. Palace Café is on my list for every visit to New Orleans."

  • "I went for dinner with my sister and we had an amazing experience! To start...you MUST order the crabmeat cheesecake!!! It was simply amazing! We also got the boudin crusted fish wish was prepared excellently. We couldn't decide between the table side bananas foster or the bread pudding so we chose both! And they were both excellent!!!"

  • "One of my go to restaurants in the quarter. Quality food, not over priced, friendly atmosphere, not stuffy but a "fancy" restaurant. Good New Orleans cocktails. Never been disappointed here."

  • "A very fun atmosphere. Delicious food (salads were disappointing) and bananas foster to die for!!!"

  • "We try to have lunch here every time we are in New Orleans (we are from CO) as the food and service is always great. This time we meet friends from LA and the Palace did not disappoint."

  • "Living out of state, we seldom get to New Orleans; and every visit - without fail - we make the pilgrimage to the Palace Cafe for an amazing dining experience. The food is authentic, unique and delicious and the service we experience is excellent."

  • "My family visited New Orleans (from TX) to celebrate my father's 70th birthday. While my husband and I are frequent foodies in NOLA, this was my parents' first time in the Crescent City. I chose the Palace Cafe specifically for the New Orleans feel and flavor. We had Sunday Brunch to celebrate, and enjoyed the menu as well as the live trio ensemble present at the restaurant. The staff was very considerate and represented the staff and expectations very well. Thank you for making it a wonderful celebration!"

  • "The service was absolutely wonderful! They were very attentive and charismatic. The food however was quite a disappointment. The oysters were very commercial and not authentic. It was great for down home food but not chef style cuisine! Beautiful decor and atmosphere, your kids will love it. If your on a date, seek something else...."

  • "Meet with family for lunch at the Palace Cafe. It is always 5 star in every respect."

  • "Five of us dined at The Palace recently and although the food was decent, it wasn't up to past standards. One of the favorite dishes, the catfish pecan, was a real disappointment - an overly large piece of fish with poor seasoning. This used to be one of my go-to dishes. The crawfish cheesecake is still pretty good, but perhaps not as good as before. So, while I love the view of Canal St, the good music and the ambiance, I'm not sure whether I'd return."

  • "The Palace Cafe remains one of the best ways to experience the special flavors that are characteristic of New Orleans. The food is really good and has the wonderful Creole spices. You are sure to enjoy this fine restaurant."

  • "I have passed by The Palace Cafe on Canal Street many times. Always seemed to be a vibrant scene, so I finally tried it this weekend. The menu wwas disappointing and needs updating if the restaurant is going to compete with the world class chefs in New Orleans. Food was okay, certainly not great or worth "writing home about"."

  • "IMAGINE a velvety smooth red bean soup followed by an amazing CRISPY tomato ( hollowed, breaded and flash fried or baked) filled with chilled shrimp, followed by spicy breaded oysters in cups of lettuce with Stilton cheese and finely shredded carrots, followed by golf ball sized scoops of MOLASSES ICE CREAM in a lacy spun sugar basket...........FOR LUNCH! Then stop imagining and go get it at the PALACE CAFE'."

  • "The atmosphere was very classy and the food was reasonable but our food was less than remarkable. Seems like a tourist spot, i could not recommend this place to anyone. My chicken was replaced quickly but it was just NOT as overcooked as the first one. I was curious why it took 5 minutes to replace and 25 minutes initially. Weird!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the Palace Café, which is predictably good in terms of menu and ambience--consistent quality and a nice selection of items on the menu. In the past I have found this restaurant to be a favorite with out of town guests as well as locals."

  • "I've been to the Palace Cafe several times. I had friends and family in for the 4th. Went to PC for Temperature lunch (what a let down?! Chicken salad?) and no Panini of the day. Totally disappointing."

  • "Met friend from out of state for "ladies who lunch" time. I arrived early and was seated at the bar for some iced tea and very interesting conversation w/ the bartender. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! When the rest of my party arrived, we were seated where we could see Canal St. and have room for my friend's baby stroller. Service was - as always - impeccable. A beverage server took our orders quickly and he and the "bus boy" kept our drink glasses filled throughout the meal. Two of the ladies had the Temperature Special - pulled pork - and I had the burger. Everything was delicious and very nicely plated. We were privy to the preparation of Bananas Foster at the table next to us - but we passed on dessert (this time). We'll be back."

  • "What an enjoyable time we had on Sunday morning. Great entertainment with a wonderful Jazz group and incredible food. The service was excellent! We couldn't decide which of us had the best meal. One of us had the pecan covered catfish and the other the crab and cheese quiche. Wow! Then for dessert we were brought a white chocolate bread pudding that was unbelievable! We'll be back. The good service, ambience and delicious food made one feel that the staff cares about EXCELLENCE!"

  • "The interior of the Palace Cafe is handsome and classy, the bow-tied waiters are very attentive, and the food is very good and nicely presented. Outside on Canal Street is is busy, noisy, and a mix of good hotels and rather flashy, cheap shops, so we avoided the sidewalk seating and opted for the elegant interior."

  • "Not the Show. No wait on Saturday night so were seated early for reservation. But too rushed. Salad plate came off table then entrees appeared in next second, literally. And way too loud--gave me a headache. But the food is very good. Wine list a bit too pretentious as well."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Palace Cafe. We started with the shrimp remoulade for our appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. The entree was the andouille encrusted fish, WOW, it was outstanding and very filling. We were too full for dessert. The service was exceptional, everyone was attentive! Would recommend this for any occasion!"

  • "We had heard much good about this restaurant and were very much looking forward to our dinner here. It was a sad experience from the beginning. A nasty waiter who didn't even take drink orders, salty food, bitter salads, rushed out the door…no smiles, greetings…NOTHING! With so many wonderful choices available in New Orleans, this restaurant better sit up and take notice! A major disappointment all around. Find somewhere else to dine! This is not the place!!!"

  • "We had dinner on the 2nd floor overlooking Canal Street. The scenery was fabulous and the fish we ordered was outstanding. I would definitely go back again the next time I am in New Orleans."

  • "Hostess and server were polite, but food was HORRIBLE! Both my husband and I ordered non-alcoholic cocktails (no-jito and nai-ti) and they both tasted like scope mouthwash. My salad was bitter and our duck and garlic gumbo tasted like canned beef stew. The manager asked other patrons about their dining experience, but ignored us. Needless to say, we will not be back!"

  • "From the moment my party of four walked into palace café, it was absolutely wonderful. The entire staff was extremely nice and helpful. Our servers (we had 3) were all very professional and helpful as well. From the drinks all the way to the very last bite of dessert (which I couldn't finish) was excitingly good!! The portions of good may seem small at first but do not let that fool you, I didn't eat again til the next morning. ( and I myself usually eat about an hour after u eat a big meal.( What can I say I love food) ..we will most definitely be going back. We love our city and fell in love with this place. The live jazz band was a wonderful touch for fathers day"

  • "Be forewarned there is a group of "singers" that they let in that travel the entire restaurant singing for tips. Lots of clapping for the beat that goes on forever through the two story restaurant and I swear the same song got sang at least twice."
