A word from Painters' Art Food Bar
Off of the southern state at exit 57 south, PAINTERS' RESTAURANT, 10,000sq. ft of fun & the avant garde of restaurants. The walls are packed with art from ceiling to floor with the work of local and NYC artists; all for sale.

The menu rivals the creativity on the walls with offerings from the "GENIUS" burgers (everybody loves the "andy warhol burger" even though its not a burger) to chef Luis Marin's latin twist on the san francisco seafood classic "cioppino" or seseme crusted ahi tuna. The menu is eclectic to say the least. We have our own version of "tapas" we call YUM with ASIAGO GARLIC BREAD, 5 KINDS OF NACHOS, SUSHI TUNA, FRENCH ONION SOUP...it goes on.

We also offer a SAT AND SUN BRUNCH 11-4 (tip: THE CAJUN BAYOU BREAKFAST has eggs shrimp and grits). But its our atmosphere of art (lots of our local artists are often inhabiting the bar), community and fun that makes PAINTERS' the suffolk county place to be.

Normally I have had nothing but great experiences at this restaurant, so I must've hit it on an off night. The food was definitely not up to their usual high standards, and the service seemed very frenetic. I suppose it can be chalked up to restaurant week, but I was definitely disappointed.

This was our first visit and we were wowed. Food was very good and the service was spot on and this was surprising given the size of the place. I expected that our requests of the staff would get lost or take forever and nothing could be further from the truth. How they do it I don't know but they are very skilled. Love the music, the baloon lady and all they have to offer. Have added this to our short list.

I've eaten here quite often and have planned this type of dinner before. My spouse and my daughter's birthdays fall around Easter every year, so I plan one night out to celebrate them all. I was unhappy that they seated 11 us at a high bar top table, the waiter was so monotone and inattentive that I was so unhappy that I had to pay the 20% included gratuity. Never again.

I found this place through a web search for 'kid-friendly' restaurants (we have four, including 6 month old twins). It's part restaurant, part art gallery. My wife is a bit of a foodie, so I checked out the menu before hand and it offered a variety of interesting sounding dishes, so we gave it a shot. We were a party of 8 total and I had made a reservation through Open Table, but at 5pm on this particular Sunday it wasn't necessary. We were seated right away and our server was right there for a drink order as soon as we got settled. The service was friendly and prompt. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. We will definitely be back. Also, my girls loved the art displayed around and the fact they could draw on the tables.

Very good food a bit expensive but the food is usually worth it. The service is not good at all. Young waiters/waitresses standing around not following up on customers. Like pulling teeth to get a refill unless you're drinking alcohol. Forget about getting bread you almost have to beg for it?

The food and service were nothing less than exceptional. The specials were extremely large in portions and very affordable for the amount of food you receive. Loved the venue as it's completely unique for the area. Creativity flows freely through the walls of painters. Came here late night and it was a little awkward. Food is quite overpriced for average taste and quality. Perhaps you're paying a premium for a creative looking place. Wouldn't really call this a destination restaurant but if you're in the area already it's not a bad choice.

Enjoyed the artsy ambiance. The food was good/ok and the portions were on the larger side...especially the guacamole! Pretty decent wine list and menu selections. I tried one of the burgers and it was just ok. The guacamole and chips were tastey. The Chocolate Chip Cookie and Ice Cream dessert wasn't all that impressive. Overall, the feel of the place was nice because it was different. It seemed to be the hot spot for the area as it was pretty busy. Service was good at first but we ended up waiting far too long for our bill. Ensure that you make sure they put you in the system for Open table - they neglected to do so in my case even though I saw my name on their list in their computer and they confirmed my reservation upon arrival.

We went to Painters for brunch on a Saturday morning. Open Table allowed us to make reservations at 11:00am. But, when we got there, the restaurant wasn't supposed to be open until 11:30am. Painters didn't hesitate to welcome us in and get us seated with drinks regardless of the time mixup. The service was great and the food was really good too. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, with all sorts of art work on the walls, and was a unique and cool place to go. It was our first time there and I look forward to going back. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Reservations during Restaurant Week were a must. It was very crowded at 7:30pm on a Thursday, and difficult to find parking. There was more of a happy hour crowd at the bar. Decorated well for Halloween. Loved the staff costumes, the artsy laid back atmosphere, including the huge crayons and brown paper table cloths. A live band was playing 80's and was excellent. we sat near the door to be able to chat without raising our voices. Organic menu choices drew me here, we will definitely return. The pumpkin bisque soup was rich and satisfying. The pumpkin pie and ice cream was the perfect size and taste, not too sweet. Buffalo wings were great, sauce is hot, thankfully we got it on the side, great to dip. Beet and goat cheese arugula salad was excellent as was the iron skillet roast chicken. Service was excellent especially the extra people attending our table. There was always someone available. Highly recommend

This time we went, I ordered a burger and a friend ordered the quesadillas, we both were disappointed. The guys ordered the filet mignon and the sea scallop specials and were very pleased. I have eaten there before approx. 5 yrs. ago, and their sushi appetizer was amazing and memorable and they still have it on their menu; I guess they must know. The art is definitely a conversation starter. There is this amazing piece under the skylight by the bar, it is a woman on a trapeze with a shoe half off and one missing, if you look you can find the missing shoe on the ledge above the bar, so cool. I would definitely go back and was overall pleased, though with some aspects more than others.
