A word from Painted Pony
A culinary island in Southern Utah, the Painted Pony brings a touch of class--and intriguing flavors--to St. George. The restaurant, tucked away in Ancestor Square, is exceptionally clean and cozy, with contemporary art, fresh flowers, and -- in the evening -- a top notch romantic atmosphere with subdued lighting and patio dining.

If your surroundings don't clue you in, your first glance at the menu will. Painted Pony is not your standard fare. Contemporary American cuisine evidently doesn't mean just another good steakhouse, and the simply written food descriptions promise something new and intriguing for your palate.

The Painted Pony has perfected the fine art of using fresh ingredients and delicate flavoring. An exceptional wine list, generous portions, attentive service, and reasonable prices will convince you to return to "the Pony" anytime you're in St. George.

We make it a point to stop in St George and the Painted Pony for dinner whenever we are driving through. They continue to provide some of the best meals we have had anywhere. This last visit continued the tradition of creative, well presented and delicious dishes in a unique environment.

We were looking for a nice restaurant in St. George and found The Painted Pony. Very cute place, nice ambiance. Menu was excellent as were our two entrees. I had the ribeye and my wife the pork chop. The Painted Pony Pinot Noir was a great accent to our dinner. Our server, Kelli, was very attentive and knowledgeable.

Excellent restaurant. The service was fantastic. The food was very good. I didn't give it 5 stars because the steak wasn't anything spectacular. It was definitely good, but not "you have to try this." The brie on the other hand was delicious, and the potatoes wrapped in bacon with the steak were amazing.

The service was exceptional - from the Hostess to our server. Our server was remarkable with her knowledge of the restaurants wine list and how we could pair with our entries. It was cute they served our desert - sorbet - with a candle as we were celebrating a birthday! If you like beets, try their beet salad.

Our only disappointment was that there was only 1 vegetarian dish (pasta), and only 1 fish on the menu in a restaurant that advertises steak, seafood and pasta, so we felt the menu was heavily leaning toward meat lovers. There seemed to be "cake" than crab in the crab cakes. My husband said the hangar steak was one of the best he's had, and he loved the sauce . We'll definitely try this restaurant again next time we're in St. George.

We ordered four small plates plus two salads for the two of us. Way too much food! The small plates are not small but are normal-sized meals. The staff must be instructed to speak very quietly because none of them spoke at a normal conversation level (and my hearing is excellent). Our waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable, but very formal. We sat outside which was very pleasant. The food varied from excellent to so-so. The salads were excellent, the mussels and smoked quail were excellent, the brie was good but not anything special, and the crab cakes were not that great compared to crab cakes back east in crab country. The espresso was very good. I would go back for the beet salad and mussels every night if I could!

Menu is inventive. All the usual entree offerings are there but with unusual twists. Food was well prepared and nicely seasoned. Ambiance was relaxing. We eat at the Painted Pony whenever we get the chance. While living in St George, we went frequently and were never disappointed. Sadly, work took us out of the area, but we still drop in at every opportunity. I have to mention the heirloom tomato and mozzarella appetizer special we had most recently. The tomatoes were large, juicy, and had fantastic flavor and color. Dinners, as always were creative, delicious, and just the right proportion. Each of us had to taste the other dinners and no one was disappointed with anything on the table. We even enjoyed the plates on tables that surrounded us, sadly, only with our eyes. The ambiance, food and service leaves me refreshed and is always a hit with friends and family.

Painted Pony was so surprisingly good that my wife and I had dinner there on all four of our nights in St. George. We never repeated an app or entrée or dessert, and all were uniformly attractive, creative, and tasty - including (perhaps especially) the accompaniments, sauces, and spices. Excluding the superb fine dining choices in nearby Las Vegas, PP is at least as good as Vegas's top casual and bistro eateries, for about 30% less cost. It's the best value in St. George, and perhaps all of southern Utah.

Everything was excellent -- the crab cake appetizer was exceptional (had to take a picture), the French Onion soup was unique and great, and the swordfish entree was terrific. Although the dessert was very good, we passed along that the chocolate covered popcorn could have been left out without taking away from the experience.

It was my 80th birthday and I made the reservation never knowing or seeing the restaurant.. What A Gem!! The restaurant is upstairs of a courtyard so you overlook the trees and courtyard through big windows. The food was outstanding and service was perfect, with a laid-back atmosphere. You won't be disappointed, although a bit pricy, it was worth it. We would go back there in a minute.

Service was top aspect, as we ended up being one hour late thanks to bad traffic in Vegas. Steak entree was top notch. Tuna entree had mountain of noodles and not so much tuna. Prickly pear margaritas were long on sweetness and short on tequila. Maybe the best St George has to offer.

Best restaurant in the Western Region. Fact: attention to EVERY detail, best wine selection, great ambiance, service out of the ordinary. Nothing compares to the Painted Pony. Still talking about dinner this past Saturday. My Smoked Bacon wrapped Duck breasts were better than anything I ever had in France. Perfect meats. Desserts from scratch, all exquisite, gelatto, pies and cakes you name it. They grow their own heirloom tomatoes and make their own bread. Very reasonably priced for the amazing dining experience. Unreal! My congratulations and most sincere thanks to the owners, the Chef, our server John and the whole staff. Look no further. Next time I go to Vegas, I will drive all the way out to St. George to dine at The Painted Pony!

The Painted Pony is very comfortable to walk into as the greeting is always very warm and friendly. The waitstaff, after seated, is very quick to start service. Our waiter was superb, timely, and we never sat and waited for any food. Even the young lady in serving our water was there to refill and yet never interrupted our meal, completely seamless Every time we've gone there they offer a salad special different each and every time. This time it was the most flavorful heirlom tomatoes and freshly made mozzarella slices. The rack of lamb and the fresh Cod we enjoyed were perfectly done. We are taking some visitors coming in November there to let them experience what we both love.

We dined at the Painted Pony last Friday with our neighbors. Eventhough we both had experienced the Pony before it was delightful and refreshing to visit again. The food was great and our waiter Brice was exceptional. Brice was very professional, attentive, and not pushy. The Pony offers standard menu items which are great, but the salad and main course specials were creative and tasty as well. Thanks for the great dining experience and we'll see you again.
