Diner Reviews
  • "Pago has an extensive wine and beverage list with excellent choices. They also have a season-specific menu with artfully chosen dishes. This is not run-of-the mill fare. I've visited the restaurant twice, enjoying a vegetarian dish the first visit and sharing a whole trout the second. Each dish was unusual, flavorful and delightful. It's location in the trendy 9th & 9th neighborhood makes it easily accessible. There aren't a lot of tables, and each table was full both times I've dined there (on weeknights), so a reservation is recommended."

  • "Found this restaurant while on vacation from NYC. Google told me it won the 2014 award from Salt Lake Magazine. They were right! Great atmosphere- not stuffy at all for a "fancy" restaurant, fabulous wine, amazing food (the kale Caesar salad actually made me enjoy kale!), and much more affordable from New York City. Bravo!"

  • "The chefs create some amazing dishes mixing uniques flavors. the menu, though small suits all palates. I had sable fish, with fried polenta, delicious, accompanied with grilled and pickled turnips, they were fantastic, yet I wouldn't put the turnips at the top of my choices for vegetables..The restaurant is small and quiet. The service was great."

  • "Our group of 4 enjoyed everything we ordered from the carrot 4 ways appetizers to the key lime pie for dessert. The patio was open too. Our server was excellent too."

  • "Thank you chef Phelix, Stephen and crew. Amazing dinner."

  • "You can never go wrong with the food here. Many fresh ingredients and some very different appetizers. The sable fish was prepared perfectly and wonderful on the pallett"

  • "This is a great place for lunch if you want locally sourced, imaginatively prepared food."

  • "What else is there to say about Pago but amazing, everything from the food to the waiters to the actual place is amazing. Had a wonderful birthday night there and for the amount of food we got, the prices were very reasonable, this isn't your small food type of place! Loved it!"

  • "We had been there once before and it was very good. We love small and intimate restaurants. The menu is small so at first that was a little bit of a concern but we were not disappointed. The service, from the moment you walk-in to the end was amazing. Each person is so knowledgeable and experienced and makes you feel so welcome. I remember the waiters from the last time too. They know their food and drinks! Love it and will definitely go back. Everyone there loves what they do and it shows. Great job everyone!"

  • "The food was local, fresh, attractive, and delicious-- especially the fresh seafood and interesting versions of traditional desserts. The staff accommodated our group in every possible way. Though fussy academics, we were pleased with the entire experience."

  • "Asparagus salad and Caesar kale salad were terrific. Chicken was good. The deconstructed key lime pie was very good finish. The Otis Cabernet was fantastic. Our server, Uriel, was excellent, very attentive but not too much so."

  • "Both their small and large plates are very tasty, and all ingredients are high quality. The small plate is a bit pricey, but the large plate is very reasonably. Interesting wine list, worth a try."

  • "Haven't tried them for dinner, but we love them for breakfast, lunch and brunch. Creative kitchen, local foods, great atmosphere."

  • "i have complained about this before. We sat with nothing before us for far too long, even for the drinks we ordered immediately upon arrival. We ordered bread (very good) to pass the time waiting for our main dishes. Our reservation was for six. Perhaps later in the evening service would be better."

  • "This is the second time we have been to Pago and both meals were amazing. Pago is my favorite restaurant."

  • "Attentive staff and inventive, delicious food provide a wonderful outing with friends or family! Have eaten there twice in the last week and had an outstanding experience both times."

  • "Pago came highly recommended by others--and the restaurant did not disappoint. It's a small neighborhood restaurant with excellent food, wine and service. The food was fresh and prepared perfectly. Our table had the Sable fish, pork tenderloin, and burger."

  • "My husband and I got here every once in a while as a treat to ourselves. The staff are incredible. We always have a great time and the food....well what can I say besides WOW...always a party in my mouth! The best combinations of flavors!"

  • "Our server, Taylor, was well versed in the menu items, which are not that many choices, but I appreciate the concept of "do a few and do them well". I had the "Surf & Turf" small plate to start, with a nice Cabernet. Three small smoked mussels, 3 cubes of pork belly, a small squid with fine pom frites and a quail egg, delicious! My wife had the Sable fish, it was cooked to silky, flaky perfection. We shared the Braised short rib was very rich and required another glass of Cabernet. All said, everything was very good, however, keep in mind that even the "Large Plates, are very small, try Pago for the taste experience."

  • "The gnocchi and chicken were exceptional. The flavors of each were very complex and delightful. There were a lot of good things happening on each plate. Evan, the sommelier, had an excellent table-side manner and picked the perfect wines for each entree. But then we ordered two of the three available desserts: the deconstructed coconut cream pie and the flourless chocolate cake. Both the presentation and flavor of each dessert were very disappointing, and very much in contrast with the rest of an otherwise wonderful experience."

  • "Food was very good, although the lobster bisque was a bit salty. We use very little salt at home so maybe this is just for our own tastes. We had a reservation, but no table was ready. They told us some slow diners had our table, but the way she told us made me suspect they screwed up the reservation."

  • "This was our first time there but the food was really amazing. We tried the trout for 2 and it was just right for 2 people to share and it was absolutely an awesome dish if trout is your thing. Our server was really great and attentive. If there was one irritation we had a reservation and ended up still waiting for 20 minutes. The good thing however, to compensate for the long wait the manager took the corkage fee off the bill since we brought one of our own bottles of wine."

  • "went there for a lunch with my family on our way from the airport to Park City. service and ambience were good, but several dishes were heavily over seasoned (salty). these included the pumpkin salad which was nearly inedible, the clam and bean appetizer, and even the batter for the fish and chips. also disappointing to find out the artisan cheese plate was off the menu - it would have been helpful if the online "winter menu" more accurately reflected what is currently being served, or at least indicated that this was a sample menu. we ended up passing on dessert and managed to get some outstanding gelato at Dolcetti Gelato across the street which saved the day."

  • "I enjoyed my dining experience at Pago. It provided a place where ideas could flourish and led to a great conversation. The ambience was nice. I would describe it as intimate and creative. I enjoyed the artisan cheese platter very much. Meatless Monday was intriguing to my companion and they had a mix of cauliflowers. They said it was delicious. I had the gnocchi which was interesting but after having had the gnocchi once I probably would not order it again. Our service was friendly but not sharp. Twice they brought out dishes that were incomplete. With so many interesting dining options available in Salt Lake City, I probably wont go back to Pago. But I did enjoy my time there."

  • "I already posted a review on Yelp. I've been to Pago many times before, however it was always for dinner. I've raved about the food and have recommended Pago to many friends. That is the reason I decided to take some important clients there for lunch. No one ate their food, from the appetizers to the main course as they were terrible. The server at no time inquired as to why our bowls or plates were still full or care if we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for the terrible service and poor quality food. There are many excellent restaurants in Salt Lake City so will go elsewhere in the future. Thanks for wanting to know what my experience was like."

  • "Had a great breakfast here Sunday morning. Dutch baby pancake was perfect and the trout was definitely a winner! I love me some grits! FYI OUT-OF-TOWNERS: Utah doesn't allow you to purchase booze before 11:30, so make your reservation for later and try their bloody mary, I bet it's good and it's only $4. Wish we had time to come back for dinner, I heard it's pretty good!"

  • "My wife and I were greeted and seated promptly followed by our server coming to go over parts of the menu and answer questions. My wife ordered the sun choke soup special, BBQ beet and the pumpkin salad. I chose the soup as well along with the sable fish entree. Everything was great. The soup was excellent, my fish was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments were a nice mix of flavors. My wife loved her two small dishes as well. We have another restaurant to put in our rotation."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice evening with great service and even better food. There were several courses and items ordered amongst our group of 4 and everything came out wonderfully, from the burger and truffle fries to the fresh-caught trout-for-2."

  • "This place never ceases to amaze. The fresh food prepared with creativity and attention to presentation. The flavor is always a WOW! not many places in town can say that. Easily my favorite in Salt Lake City. Don't miss asking for help from Evan to pair wines. Few in this town have his breath of knowledge."

  • "I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. It is a popular spot that features natural foods. The wine list was interesting and the sommelier was fantastic, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I had a good meal, but my wife ordered a chicken dish that arrived with a chicken food hidden away among the other items on the plate. It completely grossed her out and she still has no interest in ordering chicken in a restaurant. A very unpleasant surprise indeed."

  • "My girlfriends and I had an incredible time at PAGO. They are from LA and I wanted to show them that SLC has a food and wine scene. The cuisine is a party in your mouth, the service is impeccable and the wine was brilliant. ENJOY and Thank you"

  • "Pago is tasty, but pricy. I ordered two small dishes…with the price attached to them, I wasn't expecting them to be quite so small. Nevertheless, dinner was very good. The dishes were creative and flavorful. We had a wonderful evening."

  • "Good, creative, artfully prepared and presented food, and interesting and eclectic mix of options. We had 3 small plates and 2 large plates. Tried a couple wines by the glass. A good kitchen, but the service was really poor in comparison. Long waits, inattentive service, awkward dining layout, too great a density of seating. Constantly busboys bumping into you as we waited long periods without food or service. The food was interesting, but the experience was one that needs not repeating. OVERALL: Good food, bad experience, not recommended."

  • "Intimate and friendly place with great food. Sitting overlooking the kitchen it was a pleasure to see how the entire staff from chef to staff worked to create a wonderful dining experience. Eclectic wine list and a knowledgeable waitstaff only accented to attention to detail the kitchen placed on the food."
