Diner Reviews
  • "Just average italian food. Ambiance could be much better, more creativity on the menu as well. Nothing really special."

  • "Great food and wine, and friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service. Everyone in our party of 4 was very pleased with the whole evening."

  • "Can't find more attentive and pleasant service than Pagani! Excellent food -- our favorites are apple fennel salad and the branzino. Pastas are freshly made and the sauces are just perfection. Excellent wine list and many choices by the glass -- or by the very reasonably-priced quartino, (a quarter of a liter, or 250 ml of wine) which, by the way, is a third of a standard 750 ml bottle. The staff at Pagani is really outstanding. Will be back again within the week!"

  • "The table had mixed reviews on the food and ambience. It was extremely loud, we had seen other reviews on the restaurant that recommended it as a date place, and that should not be the case. Out of the two of us, one person liked the food and the other didn't. This would be a good place to meet your friends in the neighborhood; however, did not meet what we were looking for. That being said, the staff was phenomenal. The hostess worked to get us sat at a table that we would like. The bartender knew the drinks and described them to us in a way that made us know we would choose the right drinks for our tastes. The server was very friendly and was able to tell us extensive details about every aspect of the menu."

  • "Friendly waiters and delicious pasta. I had the linguine with clams and it was terrific. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant was a bit dark especially in the back, and I expected more energetic music to be playing, but it was a very comfortable experience. Would definitely go back."

  • "Went for an out-of-character early dinner (5:15pm) on Saturday, as my gf and I had tickets to a show later that evening. That being said, we were the first diners to arrive and had our pick of tables. The staff was extremely friendly, from the front of the house mgr, to the waitress, to the chef, who came to our table on several occasions. The food, as well as the wine list, were moderately priced. We started with the pear and plum salad, then had the arancini and charred octopus. Added a pasta course of the gnocchi with black truffle and walnuts. Entrees were the sea bass special, and I the lamb shank special. Finished with ricotta cheesecake and espresso. Highlight dish was the charred octopus-a must order. Room packed by 7:30"

  • "Made a reservation and still had to wait 15 minutes but was given a complimentary glass of champagne during the wait. It was a friends birthday so we mentioned that to the hostess, but the communication to the waiter was not executed because after waiting for the birthday dessert and seeing 2 others pass by, we had to request twice more before they brought something over (after we had already eaten dessert). Other than that, the general service was good and the food was great. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming. Would come back again"

  • "Enjoyed dinner here the other evening. The wait staff was friendly and pleasant. Saturday evening the restaurant was full and a bit noisy. The food was very good and there were plenty of healthy choices. Portions were moderate, which was fine. Salads were well presented and tasty. The wine list is limited, but OK and the prices reasonable. I would definitely head back for another fine meal!"

  • "Good food and lots of potential. Waitstaff needs some training."

  • "My first experience at Pagani was a memorable one, marked by solid Mediterranean-inspired plates. Because I and my friends were there very early, we received warm but not intrusive attention from the manager, bartender and the wait staff. The fried polenta fries were dynamite comfort food - crispy on the outside and the hot creamy inside. I look forward to return for a long, leisurely meal."

  • "This is my favorite low key but special place (a tricky balance that has been achieved)- great for a date, meeting a friend for dinner or a celebratory evening. I particularly love eating at the end of the bar!"

  • "A few great italian spots closed recently in the west village, so its really wonderful to have something like this around! great crowd, great service, and the food was excellent."

  • "Pagani is cute and cozy. Its a great space and nicely decorated. Great for a low-key date night or gathering with friends. Its energetic without being too loud. The food is surprisingly good - not outstanding but definitely solid and prices can't be beat. Its really inexpensive and portions can easily be shared. My husband and I shared the warm buffalo mozzarella to start which was pretty good. Then we shared the pasta with mushrooms which was actually delicious - very light and flavorful. Last we shared the beef brisket. I've definitely had better but it was great, and comforting because it tasted like a good homemade dish my mom made growing up."

  • "I used to live in the Upper East Side and frequent Uva a lot-go figure Pagani is the sister restaurant. You will not be disappointed! We had a group of 6 and everyone loves their entrees. The pasta is fresh and out of this world. You have to try the Buffalo mozzarella, it is the best I've ever had. Service is top notch too! Thank you for a wonderful experience, we are definitely coming back!"

  • "Interesting and fun menu with terrific food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Char grilled Octopus was the best I have ever eaten. Cod fish topped with a lite polenta was outstanding. A very good location to the Subway. We will return for sure."

  • "We had an excellent meal here on a very cold, snowy night recently and enjoyed it immensely. The food was not the average Italian fare - it was healthy, varied (from multiple Italian regions), and delicious. We will be back."

  • "Impressed by their dinner, I have decide to come back for their brunch. My friends from CA and I sat down at 1 p.m. and stayed till after 3 p.m. It had been surprisingly slow. The space was very relaxing and the waitress very amiable. Bonus point for okay with substituting bread with gluten-free options. My friends and I each ordered a different egg benedict and finished our meal with an order of chestnut banana pancake. Food and coffee were solid, even though I think this place is better for dinner, since they do not have a brunch prix fixe. If you come, you have to try their handmade pasta."

  • "We decided to make reservations at Pagani because we appreciated they didn't have the mandatory fixed price menu, and were pleasantly surprised by our expereience (as we hadn't been there before). They make great cocktails and offer fabulous food for a great price. As we were leaving our server shared that they are owned by the same people who own Uva on the UES, one of our favorite restaurants! We plan on coming back here a lot!"

  • "My husband and I went for my birthday celebration. The food was delicious. We loved the eggplant slider and the striped bass. Everything was prepared perfectly. Fish wasn't overcooked. I had panne cotta in pomegranate sauce with a ring of basil oil. We loved the combination. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. She made good suggestions and let us taste another type of wine and asked for our feedback. It was a very pleasant experience."

  • "Loved this place! Cannot say enough about it! The food was delicious and the staff and service were incredible. We had the stuffed mushrooms special for an appetizer and split the scallops and ricciatelle for our main course. The drinks were delicious, the crowd was upbeat, and every single person that worked there was extremely friendly and made you feel like they appreciated your dining there. We will definitely be returning, a new favorite!"

  • "A cold wintry night was improved immeasurably by warm and friendly people (including the chef!) and pasta to die for. NB: the tortoloni. The price is right, the room is attractive and comfortable. I've been twice and would go again."

  • "A late afternoon dining experience proved underwhelming. It was Super Bowl Sunday and most places were quiet so perhaps the noise and energy levels weren't the usual. The space is lovely and the menu would appear promising. However, the service - while pleasant enough - was simply uninformed. There were question marks at every turn, lukewarm sparking wine that couldn't seem to chill and multiple folks required for all dealings. After meats and cheeses, we were less than curious about the entrees and opted to move on. I'd imagine we'll be hard pressed to return with so many other nearby choices."

  • "They were able to seat us in a back area, which was quieter, and were incredibly pleasant about letting us know we could have the table for just a bit over an hour. Service was great. Delicious bread & olive oil with garlic to start. Pasta was delicious, as was the branzini. Salad with artichokes was good; portion could have been larger. The pasta sauces were original, not the ordinary things you see most often on menus. We had the one with mushrooms and liked it a lot. The Primitivo wine was wonderful. We were happy and will return. We didn't try dessert."

  • "Just perfect. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the food was great. Who could ask for more? (We chose it because of it's location to the Barrow Street Theatre. (Buyer And Cellar) It ended up being a great evening all around."

  • "And I have staples I have been going to for years, as well. For a 30-something -single -business minded woman in NY, I find some middle-ground here. Great service; family like atmosphere; yummy food fit for any palette; a private room towards the back for a semi-private special occasion and consistent cleanliness that I find VERY important. I hosted a 15- person dinner there a few weeks ago, and I cannot stop talking about how perfect they executed everything. Yet, still can sit at the bar and chat business or do some work... Either quietly, or meet a neighbourhood regular to share a glass of wine. If the late night picks up- I will be there! Not too uptight, not too casual... Goldielocks found her porridge bowl!"

  • "Had dinner here on a Friday night, really nice place. Loved the decor and the food was oustanding! My only complaint is that it was too loud for the romantic dinner I had in mind. Much better for going out with a group of friends."

  • "Very happy to have this in the neighborhood. The food is very good, and the staff is really nice and attentive. We had the polenta halibut special, grilled octopus and the olive oil cake...all delicious."

  • "The duck confit was flavorful and cooked to perfection. We loved the great variety of meats on the meat platter and when we asked for more bread it came quickly. We were a table of 3 and each had a different pasta dish. They were all delicious (meat sauce, wild mushroom sauce, and rabbit sauce)."

  • "nice but very crowded and extremely noisy - food quite good"

  • "Pagani has excellent food and it's the same owners of Uva on the UES, which I've been to as well and enjoyed. The only problem with Pagani is that their service needs major improving. Some of the waiters had an attitude and they didn't handle our reservation well. The owner was apologetic after we made a complaint and offered a free round of drinks, but we had to leave. Because the food was so good and it's only been open for 4 months so it's still relatively new, I'll go back and give it another chance."

  • "Much younger crowd than sister restaurants uva or lusardis but disappointed in the food. meatball and mozzerella appetizers were good but i got the special for the night - pancetta crusted halibut and it was dry. not rushing to return at all"

  • "Pagani is such a true gem. Real/authentic Italian food, great service, attentive wait staff/hostess/bar tender/manager. Wine list is superb - love seeing a super tuscan on a menu for $50. Ambience is really cozy without being sleepy. fantastic for romantic date, group dinner and even corporate dinner as they have a private seating area in the back. HIGHLY suggest for pretty much any dining situation. excellent addition to the west village bleecker st/ 7th ave area!"

  • "I have been to Pagani twice in the last week. The food has been consistently good. I highly recommend the homemade ricciattelle with mushrooms and pine nuts. The staff was also very accommodating, and friendly. Definitely a must-go if you are around the neighborhood."
