Diner Reviews
  • "Food took a very, very long time to come out. From time we ordered to getting food was about 75 minutes. They said the kitchen was slow. Hum- guess so. Food was good once we got it. As a local, will not return in the evening."

  • "We had a short wait when we arrived, even tho we had a reservation. Once seated, the service was mediocre. We waited for over an hour for our food after we ordered. My two companions liked their dinner. Mine was less than average. I have been here for lunch and enjoyed it but will not go back for dinner, especially on a weekend. night."

  • "I had never used "Open Table" before, so when we walked into Pack's and saw all the people waiting....I was a little worried but they took us right to a table! Packs was a fun place filled with a mix of young and old. We had a wonderful and attentive waitress who made great beer recommendations and meal selections! Our food appeared quickly and was wonderful . The restaurant has a "loft " atmosphere with a lot of wood - great atmosphere but do make a reservation with Open Table or you will be sitting and waiting!"

  • "Food and Service was great. For once my hamburger was actually cooked the way I ordered it."

  • "Pack's is a good place to hang with friends. Nice beer selection (although I would like to see more Asheville/NC beers featured), a wide variety of good, not great, food, friendly and helpful staff and lots of energy. A solid choice when you want to get together with friends for a fun meal and/or drinks without breaking the bank. I've been a few times now and it's consistently solid."

  • "This restaurant was a bit of a surprise. It looks like a typical bar and grill but the food was spectacular. We found the items to be original and very well prepared. The crab cake was one of the best I have ever had and the beet salad with goat cheese was again, beyond my expectations. I can not wait to go back. If you get a chance, put this one on your list."

  • "I decided to celebrate my birthday dinner here with a few of my friends. It was great! They have all the local beers and alot of drink specials which were awesome. The food is delicious and the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back again!"

  • "Pack's Tavern is the all-purpose reliable restaurant that works great for a date, or with your buddies, for a business lunch, or for going out with your folks. Top notch bar and beer list, featuring some exceptional drafts, the menu offers as little or as much as you want, pub fare to fine dining. Attentive service and a solid kitchen are showcased in a beautifully repurposed old commercial building, happily spared redevelopment, fronting Asheville's and Buncombe County's civic square. In good weather grab a table outside by the magnolia tree, and enjoy the scene."

  • "The restaurant was wonderful. Our waitress was good and patient. The food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious. I loved the interior. The atmosphere was great and friendly. This is a place where anyone can dine and eat many different items that fit their mood and budget. I will go again."

  • "We had a party of 18 and they were able to put our tables beside each other. Great food and service....will be back!"

  • "This is above average pub/casual food, a wide range from appetizers and salads, thru great burgers to full entrees, and some of the best sweet potato fries in town. The noise level will depend on where you are seated, we had a booth at the back and it was nice and quiet, although the restaurant was full. Our server was attentive without being pushy or intrusive. Its really nice they have partnered with some of the area theaters to offer a discount if you are seeing a show downtown - a little extra incentive never hurts."

  • "We went for valentines dinner and got the specials. Was not impressed with the food as the fish was tasteless. The beef filet was tender and properly cooked but there was not much flavor. Has a great beer selection and as such I would recommend it only for going for beer and perhaps bar grub."

  • "I came in town with a friend and we picked this place. It is a tavern but the food was awesome. Not just typical bar food. It seemed like a popular spot. Loved the food and atmosphere and would definitely go back."

  • "We had such a wonderful experience at Packs tavern. It was our first time there, and we will surely go back. I got the salmon Thai salad & it was delicious. My husband got the half chicken with collars greens and mashed potatoes. They were the best collard greens we've ever had! There were several other things on the menu we would like to try."

  • "Our group werent big fans but wanted to get out, see the game and watch the commercials and halftime show. our waitress pointed out she wasn't sure why we we were there. Kind of told by the waitress all about that several times. Looking around no one else was into the game either as it was maybe the worse super bowl ever. Many left at halftime. They didn't turn the sound up enough to really hear any of the commercials or halftime show. Our Waitress was Ok but definitely not friendly. Food was Ok but not any better then that. Not as good as other sports bars in town. We only chose there because we knew we could get a large table on open table."

  • "I like packs tavern and have been there many times. For starters it has parking which is a definite consideration. The staff is friendly and the food is consistently good. Recommended for a nice meal and a great place to relax with friends."

  • "We are a family of four who don't dine out often. This was a lunch out in the city before doing a bit of shopping (we live far outside of Asheville). The atmosphere was pleasant and there was great enough variety to please everything from a mainly vegetarian foodie mom to a couple of picky kids. My husband said the burger was quite good, and I especially loved my tomato bisque. My daughter's chicken fingers may have stolen the show, though. They were crisp and juicy- much better than perhaps any kid meal she's had in ages. We enjoyed our food and it was a good start to an afternoon out and about."

  • "Pack's is your run of the mill type of place. There's nothing notable about the menu but the food is good and we've never had a bad experience. It's pretty similar to your average chain restaurant. Great place to watch football as any table has a good view of a tv and it's really easy to get to."

  • "Great food, great service, great drinks, great environment. I honestly have no complaints at all whatsoever. The food was delicious, the salad dressing was to die for! I was told it was made fresh every day there. Couldn't have asked for anything more, the drinks were delicious and not weak at all like some places. Our waiter was fast and courteous. The price was slightly over what range it says on open table but not by much, well worth it."

  • "Pack's Tavern is a great restaurant with a great bar. It's perfect for hanging out with friends and a great place to take visitors for lunch or dinner and a perfect way to introduce them to one of the many great restaurants of Asheville. Friendly staff and awesome food."

  • "We dined at Pack's with a large group--we were seated very quickly, and they had a large and excellent beer selection. The best part is that they carry a large number of local beers from Asheville and the surrounding area for a very reasonable price. The food was also good (consensus opinion that the burgers and fish and chips were best), and we had a quick and helpful server despite our large group size. The major advantage over other Asheville venues is the capacious seating. It did get pretty noisy later on in the evening, but we were in the lower seating area and the upstairs is significantly quieter. I would say this is one of the best places in Asheville to go and get local beers with friends, as well as better than average food."

  • "While visiting Asheville we were looking for a decent place to eat downtown that was convenient -- Pack's Tavern hit the nail on the head. Good menu selection, friendly atmosphere and close parking make this a place to go to escape over-priced hotel fare."

  • "We've lived in Asheville a long time. We've never been here, but recently went when our son was home from college. What a great place. It is in a cool old revitalized wear house. They've done a nice job restoring it. The food selection was great and our server was very good. They had live music. The ambience is very cool. I will be going back!"

  • "Over the past ten years, our family (usually about 7 of us) meets every December in Asheville for a holiday lunch get together. We come from SC, NC, and TN, and go to a different restaurant every year (all with great reputations and very crowded), but we all had varied opinions about the food/service afterward. Last year, we met at Pack's. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we went there again this year, a decision we don't regret. Once again, the food was delicious, and the waiter personable and attentive. There's a great selection to choose from, and everyone loved what they got, which is unusual with a group. I have recommended Pack's several times to people I know who were going to Asheville on business/pleasure."

  • "My Mother and I were in town to visit some sites, and I discovered the Pack's Tavern online and thought it looked like a great place for us to have dinner at. I'm glad I was right!! The atmosphere is great and energentic (the basketball game that was playing on the tv's may have had something to do with that)! We arrived a little before our reservation, but there was plenty of room to sit and wait. Though it was lively, Mom and I were still able to carry on a conversation. The food was delicious! I highly recommend the fish and chips. Our waitress was very sweet, but I get the sense she was new so she fumbled some things a bit but nothing that ruined our night at all. We would definitely visit here again if in the area!"

  • "My wife and I took our 4 young nieces ( ages 8-13) to Thanksgiving Dinner. The buffet was perfect. Great assortment of food; the turkey was succulent; the kids loved every bit of it, especially the desserts. Service was exceptional and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing Thanksgiving diner. This was the first Thanksgiving dinner eaten out since we lived in Europe ( normally we have family at our home) - no regrets this year The day before, we had the buffet at the Grove Park Inn, which was obviously a great experience with a broader selection of food, however, the food wa no better at 3 times the price as Pack's. I would go back to Pack's for any meal or for just a drink at the bar."

  • "Pack's was recommended to us by a few friends who live in/have visited Asheville. We made reservs for Thanksgiving Day 2013. Most of us ordered the buffet, which was EXCELLENT. Great selection and delicious! Like lots of grandma's were back in the kitchen. A couple of us ordered off the downsized (b/c of the special buffet) menu. Best fish and chips we've ever tasted. Piping hot fish, crunchy crust. Wow. Beer is really good, too. Great waiter...Eric was very attentive and friendly! If we lived in town, Pack's would easily be one of our favorites."

  • "I am very sure that when I made my reservation on-line, 11/27, the price for the TG buffet was $19.99. That delighted me because it was so much less than what other restaurants was charging. $24.99 is lower, but not as wonderful as $19.99."
