Diner Reviews
  • "I decided to take my girlfriend here because of the view and we were staying at the Hotel. Overall, I was very pleased with the food and the wonderful view. My only issue was the service was just OK. Our server had put in our order late and gave no reason just that she put it in late. Then she went on to say because we had our meat cooked medium it takes longer so our food would be delayed even more. I'm not really sure why she put our order in late unless she forgot or got distracted. Towards the end we were ready for dessert. However, I had able to get a dessert menu from the bus boy as she did not come by for some time. After about 15 minutes of waiting she came by with dessert menus but we had already received them. "

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at this beautiful restaurant. Our dining experience was delightful as the food was outstanding as well as the service. My husband had the braised short ribs and I had the scallops, both were excellent! Our waiter, server, and sommelier were wonderful and very attentive. We requested a table with a view and got the best table in the house with an amazing view of the ocean!! It was a memorable dining experience and we highly recommend this restaurant especially for those special occasion such as ours! Great romantic spot!"

  • "There's no denying that Pacific's Edge is a fabulous restaurant, and it all starts with the famous view. Even on an overcast evening (you can't always get lucky) the ambience created by having large windows on three sides of the restaurant make for a spectacular view of the ocean and surrounding cliffs. The staff is great--helpful, attentive to your needs, and surprisingly thoughtful. My wife and I had dinner on our wedding anniversary. I made a reservation through open table and left a comment in the "comments" section about how it would be our anniversary and that we would like a window seat, if possible. Not only did we get a window seat, but they knew it was our anniversary and brought out complimentary desert for us after dinner."

  • "The view is pretty amazing but the food was not something to write home about. On the contrary. The food was disappointing for the price charged but the view was really fantatist. the service was slow and the food arrived at our table cold. the woman that was serving the wine was not agreable. Not coming back."

  • "Great food, beautiful ambiance. Unfortunately, the service was not to par."

  • "The food is still quite good and the scenic view is as breathtaking as ever, but the service is not to the standards of the past. Hypothesis: When the hotel side was a Park Hyatt in the good old days, they were able to attract some of the best talent to work at the hotel. Sadly that is no longer the case and that is reflected in the staff serving at Pacific's Edge. They try hard but they have lost the "harmony" of the past days."

  • "Imagine a terrific sunset over the bay while you are celebrating a milestone in your life---with your wife of over 40 years and having to choose from a fabulous menu of not only seafood, but short ribs and rack of lamb, not to mention other choices. Great wine list, great service and exceptional food, once you make up your mind. Sure hope I can get back there someday. Nothing like it in Oklahoma!"

  • "Exceptional setting for a restaurant. Courteous service. Food selections were adequate and the food was very good. Prices in line with most high end restaurants. The wine list was excellent although it was priced through the stratosphere (the majority of the red wines were over $150/bottle). Seemed a little absurd in 'wine country'. Bread pudding was excellent. In short a good special event location."

  • "Loved our evening at Pacific Edge in every way. Wait Staff are attentive but not hovering, service impeccable. Food was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the rack of lamb. The view of the Ocean is spectacular."

  • "We thought the food was done with imagination and attention to detail and was delicious. As we had a window table with the vast Pacific spread out before us, this was a memorable dinner with an old California friend and indeed celebratory. Our waiter, Bart, was deft, not intrusive but on top of every stage of the dinner. He did not, mercifully, introduce himself as "Hi, I'm Bart, your server." We asked his name because he was such a delightful as well as professional person."

  • "What a wonderful restaurant and location. As close to heaven as we have been in many years. Spectacular views of the beautiful Big Sur coast, wonderful food and wine, rich ambience, and great service."

  • "The setting is outstanding, with great views of the Pacific Ocean and shoreline from many of the tables. Service is very good and the food is top quality and presentation is great. The menu prices are well above average; however, it's worth it because of the atmosphere and overall quality of the dining experience at this location."

  • "The view of the Pacific Ocean from this cliff top restaurant is fantastic. The service is excellent. The food is good but not keeping up with the view and service. You are paying for the view. As mentioned the service is prompt, attentive and top notch. The menu has a traditional variety of steaks and seafood with little originality. That may be the only thing keeping this from being a top top restaurant. They executed well on our selections which came from around the menu."

  • "We had the Wine Paired Chef's menu for two, and it was well worth the price. The sommelier was excellent taking time to explain why each wine was selected."

  • "The online reservation was followed up with a confirmation call from the restaurant. We enjoyed pre-diner signature cocktails in the spacious but comfortable lounge with a spectacular view down the hillside out over the Pacific Ocean. The request for a window seat at diner was honored and the service was attentive but not rushed. The four of us ordered separate entries and found each to be delicious. This is a high end restaurant experience worth the price."

  • "While I'm sure Pacific's Edge is a great place most nights, we went for Valentine's Day and things were a bit rushed. With a prix fixe menu, things were all a bit too calculated and from the quality of the food a bit rushed. Our steaks were over, the salads were lackluster and our server didn't seem to have the time to properly take care of the table. Go for the view."

  • "I understand it's a nice restaurant in a nice area but the food and service have to justify prices as high as they charge at Pacific Edge, and they surely don't. The wine prices are outrageous and the corkage fee is $40. I had the rib chop which was good but not worth $68. Our server was pushy and obviously trying to hurry us which is the best way annoy me at a restaurant. Bottom line: wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I'm offended that they think they are worth what they charge. Too many good restaurants in the area to waste your money here."

  • "My wife and I have been here several times over the past years and we always come back, even though it is very expensive. The last time that we were there we had the same server, Sonya and she was just great. First, the view is to die for. Try to arrive during sunset and watch it from the Sunset Lounge. The view of the Pacific and Point Lobos is unbelievable. The food matched the setting. I had perfectly prepared Lamb Chops and my wife had an excellent filet. Unbelievable views, excellent service and great food were all worth the price of admission. We will be back, count on it!!!"

  • "We went anticipating a wonderful evening of good food and beautiful scenery. We went at 5:00 to enjoy the view - it was beautiful! The endive salad was a delicious next step. After being served a filet that looked and tasted like a cheap steak that was cooked on a backyard BBQ by a bad cook, the evening went downhill. It was the server that ruined it for us. His comments, attitude, and unwillingness to deal with the poorly prepared entree were the worst I have EVER experienced in any restaurant. To make a long story short, the manager made sure we got that mouth-watering filet in the end, but the awful attitude of the waiter made it into a sour experience. Sadly, we will never return nor recommend this establishment."

  • "Having dined here exactly two years ago, while staying at another hotel (within walking distance) my wife and I thought we knew what to expect from PE. Apparently their idea of 'economic recovery' simply means 'jacking up' their prices. We we so shocked by the prices of entrees that our only recourse - short of walking out without ordering - was to have one cocktail each and share an appetizer. We were shocked again when the check arrived; we knew the charge for the app, but $14 for a vodka and tonic is ridiculous. Total for two drinks and ceviche (and tip): just south of $50 -- Zoinks! Nice view (during the daytime), but my money is far better spent by a short drive into Carmel."

  • "We have eaten here several times as it is close to where we stay. It never has been great but the food now is very expensive and poor quality. The fish I had was smelly and tasteless. The lemon desert was not lemon. I'm really not sure what it was . The scallops were tough and tasteless. The restaurant only had 4 or 5 diners(I can see why) . The service was terrible even though it was not crowded. Extra long time to get drinks. No water refill and no sight of anyone to even get there attention. I will NEVER return no matter how close I am. Too many great restaurants not that far away. Skip this one and its overpriced poor quality terrible service atmosphere. BTW the view is only greAt during the day when they are closed!!"

  • "The food was very well prepared and thoughtful. Filling portions. I asked what exactly abalone was and my waiter brought me the original shell to describe. Definitely on the expensive side, but you know that going in. The best part is the view so make sure to go before dark."

  • "Concierge was disappointing as a few details confirmed were not followed through. Entree was awesome. Would give food five stars but dessert fell short. Even though concierge dropped the ball table service was good."

  • "Clearly do not want repeat customers. Food and service did not reflect the cost of the meal."

  • "My husband and I were guests for the second seating of a 5-course 2014 NYE dinner at this restaurant. The views of the Pacific Ocean are stunning from the windows, but the service from our waiter made the experience frustrating and not worthy of the over $500 check. Our waiter came over to introduce himself when we were seated with a promise that he'll be returning in a few minutes... After nearly 35 minutes of waiting with two glasses of wine, no bread, or any acknowledgement from the staff, we finally had to ask for his whereabouts! When he finally showed up, he simply proceeded to ask for our choice of entrees with not even a simple apology for keeping us waiting!!! We felt ignored and the service was far less than desirable."

  • "Enjoyed flavors if our starter of abalone and main of seabass, however, both arrived rather tepid in temperature and the vegetables and garnish for the main we're barely room temp. Service was attentive without being overdone and the sommelier was knowledgeable and gracious. Minor noise disturbance during dinner from a blender in the bar which was surprising. Otherwise, again, food flavors were great, the Chèvre cheesecake with quince was fantastic and the views just after sunset can't be beaten."

  • "I have been coming here for at least a dozen years. Unfortunately this last visit was not up their previous standard. Service was good, the food was ordinary at best. Abalone and fish not properly cooked. I hope this isn't the future for Pacific Edge."
    Dined on 12/27/2013
  • "The food and service are fine. They have an extensive wine list and their cocktails at the bar were great but get here early because it is all about the view. This place would not exist without it!"

  • "Wonderful restaurant with gorgeous views, very friendly, professional staff. Food is very good. Perfect for a special occasion!"

  • "Since the restaurant is in a hotel there is the chance you will be having dinner with young kids around. Which normally would lead you wanting to eat later, but then it might be too dark to enjoy the view. We choose bit later and got both a noisy kid next to us and complete darkness. Oh well. We had an outstanding dinner and the tasting menu with wine pairing was amazing."

  • "Very fancy, upscale restaurant with high prices..... excellent food. Beautiful dining room. Service o.k. Ambiance and "class" diminished by a few male patrons wearing baseball hats..... For such a nice restaurant with a pricey menu, you would expect people to dress better and also expect management to care. Is this fine dining or a ball park? Perhaps a dress code???? Or lower your prices and type of restaurant."

  • "Pacific Edge is the main dining room at Hyatt's Highlands Inn in Carmel Highlands. It has a spectacular view of the Pacific. The current menu reminds one of a high-end steak house, with an assortment of entrees and collection of a-la-carte sides. The wine list has very few low-to-moderate-priced wines and many more bottles at $100 and up. My wife had a superb preparation of short ribs, while I selected a "Kansas City" (bone-in NY) steak, which, unfortunately was not quite up to its $60 price. I'd recommend other meat or fish selections, instead. We had a superb bottle of Turley Duarte (2011) Zinfandel ($110). Overall, Pacific Edge is best reserved for special occasions, and one should be prepared for a bill of $250+ for two."
