Diner Reviews
  • "Pacifica Del Mar is probably our favorite restaurant. We have been eating there since it opened. They seems to to handle crowds well, but as my husband observes, they don't seem to handle holidays well. Of course the view is spectacular and the service is usually good, but our food was very marginal this visit. We went there for Easter Brunch. My cinnamon brioche French Toast had no cinnamon taste whatsoever, and my husbands eggs Benedict were cold and the cheddar cheese green onion muffin underneath was as hard as a hockey puck. These are just nit picky items, I know. We did have a table for two on the edge looking out at the ocean, so that made up for whatever lacked in the food!"

  • "Our family dined at Pacifica for Easter Brunch. Having been there several times before, we were familiar with their menu. The food and service has been consistently good and we have had very good experiences in the past. Being extremely crowded for the Easter Brunch, the service was not as good as usual. A salad needed to be returned twice- once due to undercooked chicken and the second time due to being drenched in dressing after a request of "no dressing". The manager did come to the table to apologize and remove from the bill. Requests for refills on water and ice tea were made several times as no one was available. In general, Pacifica is a great place in Del Mar to dine."

  • "We hadn't been to Pacifica in a long time-- a few years actually-- and now we know that was much too long. It was a perfect evening in every way-- the food, the service, the setting, all of it. The service was so attentive that at one point we joked that they must have mistaken us for celebrities :-) We requested a table with an ocean view, and they seated us at one of the best in the house just in time to see the sunset. That, with a fabulous dinner and great service-- how can you beat that? We were talking about how perfect it was into the next day. It was so perfect, in fact, that I'm heading back next week with an out-of-town guest! "

  • "They were sold out of our favorite entree. The service was very slow although our server was very nice. One entree (swordfish) was so overdone and dry that it was inedible. Forgotten side served late. Scallops large, but not as tasty as normal. The restaurant made at effort to make up these problems by giving us two complimentary desserts which was appreciated."

  • "Great view and atmosphere. The wine was good as well. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer and they were awesome. I had scallops and they were very salty. The service was pretty good as well. Getting a table along the glass on the patio makes for a great view of the edge of town and the ocean. Great for the sunset."

  • "Pacific Del Mar is always fabulous you will never be disappointed with the delicious menu, my favorite is the salmon, a house specialty. The service is great and a wonderful view. I would recommend Pacifica to anyone"

  • "While other restaurants come and go at the Del Mar Plaza, Pacifica Del Mar reigns supreme. Always a good bet for great food and attentive service. The scenic view is a marvelous accompaniment as well. It is a great place for interview or business lunches. The only negative about DMP is the tight parking on weekend nights even with the availability of valet parking. "

  • "When I was living in San Diego, Pacifica Del Mar was a restaurant that I could count on to deliver everything one could expect plus much more. Many restaurants believe that a great view eliminates the requirement to provide attentive service, good food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Pacifica could serve their menu in a basement and it would still be a favorite spot. On this visit, I hosted a special lunch knowing that no one would be disappointed in any aspect of our meal, setting, or service. And, of course, we weren't."

  • "Great place with nice view of the ocean. The Yellowtail is exquisite. Be aware though that the main dining area has quite a high noise level. Not ideal for conversation with a new date."

  • "My husband and I got married at Pacifica Del Mar five years ago. We had the pleasure of bringing our brand new daughter and my mother in law this weekend. PDM was the only place she requested that we go to by name as she wanted the delicious sea bass that she ate at our wedding again. Five years later and the restaurant still surpasses our greatest expectations! Thank you for a lovely night, scrumptious food and wonderful new memories for our family!"

  • "We finally had a date night after a busy 4 months. We love Pacifica and made a reservation fast. We love the food and the location. Food seemed a bit different taste wise from the last time we were there. But still enjoyed it. Service seemed slow, but they were busy, and we think our server was new. However, he did pace out our salad and dinner so we could enjoy our time out and have a decent conversation."

  • "Excellent restaurant. Great views over the Pacific. Excellent fresh oysters, dungeness crab cakes, crispy duck confit, wild mushroom tartlet, hamachi tuna and tuna tartare were all very good and fresh. Wine list is extensive a bit pricey but excellent selections. Waiter was friendly but must say I expected a bit more from the support servers who forgot palce settings, spilled wine when pouring and needed stern direction from the waiter himself. Would definitely recommend the restaurant as the food, view and ambiance were great."

  • "We had the salmon and sea bass, regular items on the Pacifica menu, and loved them. We have dined here some 20 or so times over the last couple of years, and are never disappointed. As summer approaches, the outdoor dining will be amazing."

  • "This place never ceases to please. The foodies in our party deemed the signature salmon to be outstanding. One of our favorites is the scallops which, like many of their dishes, is presented slightly differently each time. They know how to keep their menu interesting and appealing to diners. The entire staff are at the top of their game. This is one of the very few restaurants in the area that truly offer a completely satisfying dining experience. Beyond the excellent food and service, we like to bring visitors for lunch on the patio to enjoy the beautiful ocean view."

  • "My husband and I went to Pacifica for a quiet, relaxed, romantic anniversary dinner. Instead we were seated on the patio where it was quite loud, we would have much preferred a booth, which were all available, but not offered. Our reservation was for 8:45,and they should not seat that late if they don't want to serve that late. Our whole meal felt very rushed with our appetizer barely cleared and our entree on the table and the same with our dessert. My husband asked for coffee, we were told it would take too long to make a pot so how about a cappuccino. The food was ok, I had the filet cooked medium rare and it was dry, my husband had the ahi and the sauce would hav been better paired with my steak. Very dissapointing overall."

  • "Was outstanding due in part to the dinner at Pacifica Del Mar. For several reasons, I have not eaten at Pacifica del Mar for many years. What a great surprise to discover a new menu, improved reservations handling, and a reduced waiting time for the reservation. I cannot say enough about the food. At our table we enjoyed the Ahi (rare), Filet, Sole, and Sole. There were only compliments and conversations about when we should meet for dinner at Pacifica del Mar again. Wonderful. Thank you!!!!"

  • "We used to be Pacifica fans, but left years ago as the taste of the food diminished. Thought we'd give it another try, but frankly, it barely met the expectations of its former self. The salad was unexceptional and small. The sugar cured salmon for which it is known was nothing special, and the lamb shank was not very flavorful or exciting. Our waiter seemed in a daze and unknowledge about the wine - and the noise level after 6:30 was defeaning -even on the open patio. We won't be going back."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Although the views are nice, this restaurant is extremely noisy on the patio. It would not be considered a romantic evening, more for friends and loud conversations as you have to yell to be heard."

  • "I brought friends from Europe here for dinner because I'm a loyal patron and can always count on the food being excellent. However, once again extremely disappointed in the wine list. Please can't you a few GOOD Pinot Noir's added to your wine list. It is one of the most popular wines currently and you'd think you could get a few at decent prices for your customers. And I don't mean Acacia etc. Also the desert menu has changed considerably. Bring back the small round chocolate cakes with the raspberries on top. It was the best desert on the menu. Bring back Brian! The fish was cooked perfectly. Thank you again. Libbie McMahon VP Del Mar Art Center Gallery Down stairs from your restaurant."

  • "I absolutely love this restaurant. I don't mind paying higher prices when I feel I get what I pay for. We don't go here often, but my husband and I both really like it. I would give it more stars if possible. The staff is so friendly, the view from the terrace is beautiful, the food is fantastic and there are no words for the desserts."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "It's a little over priced for the food that you actually get. You're paying for the view and the atmosphere, both of which are spectacular. This is a much better place to go (more for your money) is you caught the early bird special---order by 6:00pm and get an appetizer and entre for $23.00. I would have given it 4 stars if I had done that!"

  • "The taste of the food was exactly as described by the waiter so it was clear he elicited input from his previous guests and listened well enough to pass along the advice. Everyone was very attentive and friendly."

  • "Baked oysters are as good as you will find. Seafood fresh and nicely-prepared. After being seated and served water, we waited 15 minutes and had to ask for a waiter. Once someone came, service was fine."

  • "This is my second visit to the Pacifica del Mar and I won't be going back. Yes, it was a dismal evening, but I was cold all evening as they said they couldn't put a heat lamp anywhere near our table. The food was not nearly as good as the last time I was there. Very expensive for what it was."

  • "Service was a tad slow. Took a while between appetizer and main entrée. Food was excellent. Rib eye was cooked perfectly and the catfish was surprisingly good. Sunset over the ocean was beautiful. Will definitely be back"

  • "Most beautiful sunset over the ocean for an hour while we enjoy our drinks and food. It doesn't get much better at a fun and active location."

  • "I liked that we could either look at the 2 course menu before 6pm, but then also had some quality appetizers and main courses you could get alone. The quality of the food was very good, and the prices were very reasonable for where you were and the view you had. The dining room is a little to open with tables pretty close to one another, but also had a cool bar area. The view is spectacular. Very good service."

  • "We went first for lunch and split a tasty large sandwich of seared ahi. The view was good and we enjoyed it. We went back for dinner with another couple and were disappointed. The fish had no taste. They were stingy with the mussels (only 12 in appetizer). One guest wanted to order a different side with her entre' and was told (politely) by the waiter that the chef would not allow it. It was extremely noisy. So...good for lunch with a nice view, but not much else."

  • "One of the strengths of this place is the outstanding serving-staff that we have come to depend on during the many years we have been dining here. They are the perfect complement to the excellent menu. This time, however, our party of six received so little attention from the server that several persons became visibly upset. Her lack of presence for extended periods of time detracted from our enjoyment of the evening."
