They don't like substitutions when you are already there but prior to arrival you can let them know any of your food whims; gluten free, vegan, raw etc. The atmosphere was perfect: elegant but not library quiet, great bar but doesn't overtake the ambiance of the restaurant, not every seat has a view of outside but the rustic historical building on the inside is just as good of a view. The food on the menu has great variety and is delectable to eat. Make reservations! The wait is quite long without them. Even the bar fills to capacity.

Our anniversary dinner was very good over all, it was our first experience dinning here also. From valet parking to paying the check moved smoothly through the process. The server was excellent and informative. He gets extra points for moving smartly through the billing process, I hate it when you want to get going and servers disappear. The food was good, well presented and at temperature. The sauces were excellent. My wife had the small filet and I had sea scallops, both very good although the filet's cut was thinner than I'm used to. I made the reservations through my Open Table phone app,,,,easy to do and very convenient (I'm in my 60's) Over all, great night and we got to explore down town dinning.

I was looking for somewhere special to celebrate the graduation of a dear friend from college. Since we were planning on dancing in the Tacoma area I decided to try dining at one of the local fine establishments. Google's reviews are quite axcurate. The service was excellent. The food was exquisite and quantity sufficient. Presentation was excellent. It was easy to tell that the kitchen was run by a world class chef. Also notable, was the popularity of little black dresses among the chique clientele. It complimented the warm romantic ambience highlighted my custom glass lighting that provided the perfect amount of indirect lighting. Sitting in the middle of the bigger room, noise level was as expected for fine dining during peak hours.

Romantic it was not, not the best seat in the house, appetizers were delicious, hubby's steak divine ( he says), the vegetarian options leave a little something to be desired. We did enjoy ourselves as it was our anniversary / but no dessert we could take back to our hotel. Nice server * Ben

Enjoyed a delicious meal here - raw oysters, seafood shooter, crisp salads, flavorful King Salmon, pork tenderloin and steak (took advantage of $10 add-on for lobster medallions with it.) Only disappointment was the service, which was sluggish.

Great place to support my mission to ask my girlfriend "THE" question. Valet parking asked if I was in the military and gave me information on how to get this benefit comped. (I think they recognized the steely eyes and proud bearing rather than the really short haircut...) I had used the Opentable app to place my reservation but, I was impressed when the hostess greeted us by name. We were seated immediately. The wait staff was knowledgeable and recommended good choices. The service and food were outstanding! The drinks we ordered from the bar were well made and arrived quickly. I requested a Vesper Martini and the bartender knew the recipe and returned my order with one of the best versions I have tasted. She said yes.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary; it was my very first time and his first time having dinner, not Happy Hour. The food was exceptional, though next time I think we'll skip the fry appetizer - they were better than average fries, but they were still just fries. I had the best steamer clams I've ever eaten and my husband had the only salad I can remember him happily finishing - the steak salad. It was a fantastic dinner and we finished it off with some incredibly yummy white chocolate ice cream. Our booth was comfy and even though we weren't really, we still felt secluded and comfortable. My only complaint is that the noise made us speak a little more loudly than romance usually calls for.

The food and service were good. My husband enjoyed the duck, and I had a cauliflower steak which was delicious and a baby kale salad that I found disagreeably salty. I thought that the dessert menu over-emphasized heavy, sweet, and predictable items. The sorbet and gelato were not made in house, and available to us anytime at the grocery store, for far less. The preservation of the character of the building and the use of decor that echoes, without duplicating, Tacoma's amazing art scene are well done. However, the two or more story open room feels cold, without a sense of coziness or intimacy. This was underscored by the fact that the temperature of the room was decidedly chilly and somewhat drafty for someone in a cocktail dress.

Took my wife and daughter to PG for my wife's birthday. We've gone on and off since it opened, and the food still hits the mark. Didn't realize there was a concert nearby, so initially very crowded and noisy with pre-concert crowd. I think this contributed to a bit of "distractedness" by our server, who clearly felt the need to get us ordered and "in the pipeline." I can understand that, but we were there for a nice dinner out, not an in-and-out meal. Still, he was very polite, and once the concertgoers cleared out, things got better. I'd also note that the wine list seems to have shrunk in the past year, though it is still well-chosen.

We two of our oldest friends to the Pacific Grill for a birthday celebration. They had never really dined there before. Once again we thought the steelhead lox was the best thing on the menu. It seems like spicier items are making their way into the food. The Weathervane Scallops for excample had a bit of bite to them, peharps flavors leached out from the squash slaw (a bad idea) piled in the middle of the plate. The scallops have been a family favorite, but will not be ordered again. Have the crab cakes gotten smaller? They seemed expensive for a fifity cent sized portion. Loved the new version of the barbequed pork, served now a little rarer . . . very tender. The prawns should be mostly peeled. I bit off the meat, but left a third.

This could be a great spot, but they need a little polish. The hostess does not bring menus with her when seating, the server brings them over when they first greet the table. We order beverages - unfortunately the cider my husband ordered was not available (server told us they were running low the night prior). We then ordered entrees (him: duck, me: pork tenderloin). I ordered mine medium-rare to medium. When the dishes arrived, the pork was raw, as in blue. I sent it back, and another staff member delivered the now cooked pork. No apology, no visit from a manager, and no attempt at goodwill to correct their mistake (glass of wine, dessert, etc.). Overall the duck and pork tasted good, but the lack of guest satisfaction was alarming.

We came here for a nice dinner out. PG was extremely noisy and we were seated approx. 8 inches from fellow diners (not so private). I ordered the salmon cakes (which is listed as an appetizer) for my main dish, along with a kale salad because I didn't want a large meal. The server brought my salmon cakes immediately after we ordered, along with my husband's salad. Therefore, I ate my main dish first and my salad later. This is lovely in Europe, but NOT in the US. We felt like the staff was rushed to turn over our table. Our check was brought within an hour of our arrival. My husband liked his duck dinner, but I don't expect that we will be back.

Three hours after setting down for dinner, we were finally fed. Seems like they were catering to a party in another room before anybody else got fed.We were in there on a $100 gift card a friend gave us.Our dinner wasn't the only plate that was late.A couple that sat two tables over had the same experience. We had $16 left on our gift card after dinner.I felt really bad for then, so I gave them the remainder on my card to apply towards their bill. I do not intend to go again or recommend it.

We go to Pacific Grill for when we are looking for a good mix of standbys AND innovative options. The menu has become stagnant and completely lackluster. I think the owner's energies have been channeled too much into SMOKE + CEDAR, which is nothing to write home about itself. Sad to say, we may have to find a new favorite restaurant in Tacoma.
