We heard good things about the restaurant but were disappointed with the whole experience. Our server and bottle of wine were fantastic but the food and atmosphere just weren't what we would expect for the amount of money being exchanged. The fall menu was up so that had something to do with it since I don't really care for squash, lentils, apple, etc. But we were mainly unhappy with the way the meat was cooked - dry and flavorless. A few bites in, we agreed we could have stayed home and cooked much better food at a much better price. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, we felt we were sitting with the people next to us since we were so close to them. I'm not complaining since I know you have to get as many people in as possible; just commenting the we didn't have a remotely private dining experience. I don't normality write bad reviews but Pachamama's was did not meet our expectations and we will not be coming back. When we are in the mood for $40 a plate of guaranteed solid food, we will be visiting the Rowhouse in Topeka or going to KC from now on.

We are regulars at Pachamamas. Normally things are pretty good. This recent experience was not good. One entree arrived with a cold plate, a cold steak, and lukewarm spinach. We had little attention from our server, but it was a busy night. At the end of the meal, when we were asked (finally) how things were and we expressed concern about the cold entree, we got no attention from management. A day later, we did get a communication from the restaurant, but let me just say it was odd, and only after several exchanges was there an expression of concern. Bottom line: Pachamamas is off our regular rotation.

We were a group of 6 who wanted to chat with each other. The noise was so loud that we asked to change tables, but the other table was equally loud. We couldn't hear each other across the table and could only talk with the person next to us. We will not be going there again on a weekend. the food was good, but not as outstanding as we anticipated. Presentation was colorless and portions looked sparse on some dishes. The service was excellent and servers and staff were very attentive and helpful. But we do not want to have to shout at meals.

Dined at Pachamama's for a special occasion. Had been doing so for twenty years. Food was superb as always. Host was kind. Owner was gracious. Usually the wait staff are professional but not in this case. We had a multi-course meal and found none lacking. Perhaps the duck underdone for the degree ordered. Wine selection to match dinner was quite good.

I was really looking forward to my meal...the pictures on the web-site looked great. I was underwhelmed. The food lacked proper seasoning, the cheesy grits were undercooked, and my pork was over-cooked. The server could have done a better job of checking up on us. Overall, not a very good experience.

After trying several of the OT top ranked spots - this one wins my top vote. Try the marrow crostini if they're on the menu - amazing. The mains were also strong. The room is open, with wonderful space between tables, in a modern and subdued room with great windows. The wine list has enough to choose to make most anyone pleased. I'd definitely return.

We were seated promptly. Waitress was very attentive. She strongly encouraged the prix fix with wine sampler and we were glad she did. All six of us very much enjoyed all the dishes. Many of them we would never have considered ordering on our own but were surprisingly good. We sat in a booth and it made it semi private and cozy. Perfect for a small group. Bar area seemed lively. Nice waiting area. Fun atmosphere.

Our server was outstanding, Sarah, she had terrific recommendations and gave us just the right amount of attention when we needed it! We had a cozy, but roomy private booth so we could talk. The price fixed menu with wine flight was outstanding! The trout was the moistest most flavorful trout I have ever tasted and we fought over the house created lemon and chocolate sorbets! It was a perfect fine dining yet low key and hip experience and who knew in Larence KS! Thank you!

We recently celebrated a birthday dinner. The service was good but not stellar. Our drinks were not made correctly but were quickly redone. My dinner was salmon served with white beans and a bean sauce. The salmon was good but the beans and sauce were not spicy or interesting. The wine choices were adequate for the area. Overall a nice meal but perhaps not worthy of a $200. price.

Food was superb, as always. Waitress was new, but very pleasant. Unfortunately, service was not seamless - no bread plates until requested. No utensil replacement until asked. But, we all learn, so don't count againt her or Pachamama's. Just odd for the the price of a very expensive meal. Noise on south room was very high because of a group across the aisle. Made difficult to hear at out booth. This has always been a problem with this location. Do not expect a private, romantic evening at this restaraunt. But, if you enjoy food, this is the place.

Pachamama's is great! The menu is creative - not the one fish entree, one chicken entree, a steak and one or two other items that you see on many menus. The food is always delicious and creatively prepared. The wine selection is good and reasonably priced. The waiters are knowledgable about the menu and wine list and make good suggestions. The service is very good. We noted they always serve on the left, clear on the right. The atmosphere isn't fancy, but is attractive. It's not stuffy. We live in Kansas City and visit several times a year because we enjoy Pachamama's so much.

  • Birthday at Pachamama's
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 6/2/2012
While the decor in the dining room is interesting - much use of shattered-glass panels - the real draw at Pachamama's is the food. My wife, who is not an adventurous diner, really liked the pepper-crusted marlin and lemon-grass risotto and was tempted into trying the seaweed-crab citronette with which it was served. My rosemary and fennel grilled pork chop was excellent, very moist and tender even though completely cooked. The blend of blackberry gastrique with the morel spaetzle and fiddleheads, which you might think of as "too many flavors" was, instead, a tasty accompaniment to the pork. Pair the great food with really good service and we had a completely enjoyable birthday dinner.

This restaurant tries to be good and the service is very good. However, for an expensive restaurant the decor and feel of the restaurant is too casual. Additionally, many may find the menu quite limited and very "artsy" for a college town. My wife felt that her food was not sufficiently warm. Two other issues: 1. We had a reservation and when we arrived they tried to seat us at the absolutely worst table in the restaurant (next to the kitchen and where the wait and bus staff come in and out). While many restaurants do this, it is always very dissapointing. We politely asked for a different table and they had no problem with the change. 2. There was a group in the restaurant that was extraordinarily loud. The staff did nothing.

Pachamama's is still a great restaurant and I would still recommend it to others. Certainly still above average. But it has slipped in my estimation from its peak. I have now been on three different occasions in the last year and a half, most recently for Mother's Day Brunch, and for each of those occasions I have been satisfied but not impressed. Pachamama's no longer wow's me, and I am saddened by that.

Excellent food and service. Table next to us was VERY picky and their waiter took care of everything for them, including preparing two completely new and different dishes after they did not care for how the first two they received were prepped. Pachamama's continues to serve very good locally sourced food. The menu used to be varied month to month with new types of dishes on offer. It made it interesting because each visit was a new and unexpected experience. Lately, they seem to have fallen into a rut of serving the same basic dishes all the time, the names may change but the flavors are the same. It is still very good food, so I worry the chef is "playing it safe" but sticking to what has been popular instead of experimenting.
