Diner Reviews
  • "After acceptable meals in the past, dinner on Sunday night was a total failure because of the poor quality of the food. Out of 4 dishes, the kale salad was the only decent one . The grilled octopus was room-temperature, tough, & lacking flavor. Grilled vegetables were burned, & the soft shell crab roll arrived cold & greasy. I sent it back to the kitchen, & received an only marginally better version. When the waitress asked how everything had been, I had to say nothing was good, & 3 dishes were actually bad. She expressed regret, but when the bill came, it was for the full amount. The view is great, & the atmosphere is decent; just don't expect much from the kitchen."

  • "Every menu item we tried at Ozumo was presented beautifully and tasted amazing! The restaurant was lively, with a fun energetic bar area and the view is as beautiful as the food! If you sit by the window you can enjoy the lights of the bay bridge reflecting off the bay. Ozumo is a wonderful dining experience and I have already recommended it to friends."

  • "I've always enjoyed coming here but a bit less for lunch since the ambiance is very different. Came here for an intimate dinner and had a really great experience, even better than I remember. Food was great as per usual but the service was most memorable this time."

  • "This is a very nice restaurant with high-end sushi. Great for a couple but not ideal for a family. Excellent service and food. Somewhat expensive - a dinner for two will cost you around $ 150."

  • "Probably one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. Food was amazing the waiters helpful and informative."

  • "The sushi here was fantastic. My new favorite for sushi!"

  • "This is a busy place and quite pricey. The service is really good and fast and the food is ok. I think I personally like places that are not so nosy and busy but if you are looking for a high energy place, Ozumo SF can be a place to be enjoyed."

  • "we were a party of four for business and enjoyed the evening. The wine list was reasonably priced for a downtown restaurant with a modest but good selection. The food was very good - everyone enjoyed their rolls and sushi. Fortunately, it was a casual dinner so the noise level was not overwhelming. All in all a very nice evening with a knowledgable and helpful server."

  • "Great place for a retirement lunch; wait staff attentive and food especially the sushi is delicious."

  • "Extraordinary fish; salmon belly the finest east of Tokyo. Conoseurre's sake list and kind servers. A bit loud, but no matter; the food makes up for any errors in acoustics."

  • "Good is not justified by the price you pay. The prices are of a high quality restaurants but the food is medium and less."

  • "Always great. From the moment you step inside its a one if a kind Japanese eating experience. Soy garlic edamame, Gindara, Shabu Shabu, Wagyu, rolls, sushi are all favorites. Service is great too."

  • "Went on a date here and ordered the 8 course menu. It is very pricey but please if you ever get the chance to try it, please do so. The head chef picked the best of the best from the kitchen and handmade the dishes himself. They were absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend this place!"

  • "Marvelous, fresh food. Innovative presentation for all foods except sushi roles, which was surprisingly plain."

  • "We had meant to go to Ozuma years ago and kept missing our opportunity. The food is excellent and the staff are informed and helpful. Each and everyone of them greeted us with a smile, nod and or hello. We sat toward the back which is much quieter than the front near the bar. The scallops with risotto were especially terrific. There is a fine wine and sake list and the cocktails are fun and unusual"

  • "Ozumo is typically very crowded during the week and later, but I have discovered it is very good for an early Saturday evening dinner pre- San Francisco Symphony (just a BART ride away). Service was very attentive and food prepared very well."

  • "The interior of the restaurant is contemporary and Japanese (just as the sign out front described), and sets a chic and cosmopolitan mood to the experience. We had a table by the window facing the bay bridge (which has animated lights on the suspension cables at night making it a fantastic window view). The service here is amazing, we were greeted by almost every worker, thanked by several managers (who even bowed to us which was a nice authentic touch). The waitress knew the menu in and out, and was extremely attentive without being disruptive. The food here is so well made and delicious, and this is NOT a tourist trap (gimmicky place with mediocre food)."

  • "The sushi and small plates are beyond compare, both in presentation and taste. A very attentive and informative waitress helped us in our selections. It was great way to celebrate a birthday."

  • "The sushi and appetizers are always good. I miss their more extensive lunch menu and wish there were more cooked item choices."

  • "I've eaten at Ozumo before and that was a great experience. This time the fish just wasn't fresh enough and not sliced to the right thickness. The waitress was very attentive. The have a really extensive sake list."

  • "sushi was great. extensive sake list. service is good and the environment is vibrant. Noise level is a bit too high for my liking. Acoustics are not very good. sometimes a bit hard to hear what people are saying at the table"

  • "We've eaten here plenty of times as a family (kids age 6&9) and ways enjoyed it. This time our experience was ruined at the high bar (sushi bar in the middle. We had to change our reservation time and this was only place available. I wish we had just cancelled) by a group of 20-something guys who used the F word in every sentence. As they drank they got louder and used the f word multiple times in a sentence. It was just obnoxious. Bottom line- we'd go again but only at a table."

  • "This was my first time to Ozumo. Will be sure to return next time I am in SF. I need to be gluten free and the waitress made sure everything was made GF and was very accomdating and the changes the chef made did not affect the taste or presentation of the food. It was outstanding."

  • "Elegant, sophisticated restaurant with great service and fine food I really enjoyed my birthday dinner in this very elegant but mellow restaurant. Service was excellent, delicious food served in timely manner, enough space for comfortable seating (not as some Japanese places where you fill smooshed like a sardine). It was definitely expensive dinning but if you can afford it that's the right place."

  • "My son recommend your resturant to me as he has dined there. I was looking for a sushi resturant in SF for a woman visiting from Flordia. She said all she wanted was "some really good sushi". I made the reservations with you. She said she and her friend had a fabalous meal. Delicious and a beautiful resturant. When in SF again I am sure she will be visiting Ozumo."

  • "The unagi is to die for. Hands down the best unagi I've ever eaten. Also tried the stuffed squid dish last time I was there...you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. A great place for business dinners with prospects and customers. Book early - it fills up and then you're stuck eating in the bar area."

  • "Great location in San Francisco near the water, this nice sushi restaurant was a great find. Had a work dinner hear, but it was still a fun atmosphere. Unique cocktails, fresh sushi, and an extensive sake menu. Book now, you'll love it. "

  • "Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and was happy to be able to reserve through OpenTable. My husband and I both chose the Chef's Ososume special, an 8-course, "surprise me" festival for the palette. A lot of the courses were from the seasonal menu and being the sushi lovers that we are, the chef's choices did not disappoint. Mind you, our waiter did ask us our preferences beforehand. Service was excellent - efficient and friendly. No problem keeping up with filling our water, tea, and sake glasses! We were lucky to have a table by the window to see the lights of the Bay Bridge. But even if you don't, after dinner, it's worthwhile taking a small walk to see them and digest at the same time. Highly recommended for Japanese/sushi lovers!"

  • "I used to go to Ozumo years ago when I worked downtown. Glad that the quality and service has not changed. The sushi was delicious and the service was great. Although the menu is a bit more expensive than most, it was worth it! We had the ahi tar tar which was one of my favorites and the sake flight would be one of my recommendations. Great place for after work and weekends! "

  • "Wow. The special Japanese Uni was so delicious. It was so good that we had to order seconds. The octopus appetizer was so beautiful, creative and full of flavor. Those were the 2 dishes that were just amazing! Dohyo and the Ozumo Roll were also very tasty. Our server was very helpful and gave us great recommendations."

  • "This was my second time eating at Ozumo, and it did not disappoint. The food is fresh, vibrant, and presented beautifully, and the service was outstanding. We were able to relax over a leisurely dinner, without feeling like we were being rushed so they could do another seating. I would definitely return time and again."

  • "Arrived early for my reservation and ended up waiting 20 mins past reservation and when I finally went to hostess she ask "are you ready to be seated?" as if she were waiting on me. Service was so slow I ended up getting a parking ticket because dinner took about an hour longer than planned. Was recommended the signature Ozumo roll and was underwelmed. Miso Cod tasted a bit funky. Nigiri and Tempura was great. "
