  • "She wanted Sushi on our 1st date, I'm not a sushi fan but she was so excited about the idea so I booked a table at Ozumo on a Friday night. The place was hopping. Bar was full, the music was loud but not too loud so we could still hear each other. Beautiful room and the food was fantastic. Maybe I do like sushi after all. She ordered a variety of sushi, I ordered short ribs and a steak item. ALL of it was fantastic. Great place to order a few small plates for sharing. Our waitress was super helpful suggesting some Saki to sample. She was around when we needed her and she was invisible when we didn't need her. Date was success, next week she & I are having Italian in the city ;)"

  • "Absolutely exquisite Japanese food with fabulous service and great ambience. The seasonal specialties were amazing - grilled lobster tail over mushrooms and curly spinach in vinaigrette, Wagu meatballs on skewers, and grilled ribs with fresh green herbs. But the big surprise was how wonderful the regular menu items were. The Gyoza filling was really good while the Miso soup was outstanding - lots and lots of flavor in the broth along with fresh green onions and tofu. We then shared the Bucho roll - shrimp tempura inside the rice covered by thin, thin avocado slices and roe - absolutely the BEST roll we've ever had. Our primary server was really helpful and all of the wait people gave us great service throughout. PRIME CHOICE!!!"

  • "Tried Ozumo before a show at the Fox Theater. Made a reservation 2 days in advance, with no problem. Contemporary interior, large but doesn't feel "too big". Appropriately attentive service. Very fresh-tasting sushi rolls, agedashi tofu, sashimi, nigiri and sunomono salad. Highly recommended and will definitely return."

  • "We checked out Ozumo for dinner when it first opened and were very impressed. It is not an inexpensive spot but is nonetheless popular. The restaurant has a large number of tables, but doesn't seem crowded. The high ceilings which help keep noise manageable and give a feeling of spaciousness. This was our first try for lunch and it was very enjoyable, low noise level It was at for lunchtime, although we recall that the bar area was very noisy at night time. Food is excellent and service very good."

  • "I was meeting up with a friend. When I first walked in, I was greater right away. Arrived earlier than my friend, so I had the option to sit at the bar or go to my reserved table.. The alcohol drinks are very good, and I had teriyaki chicken, with white rice. Sat in the back. Very nice ambience. It was my first time there, and I'll definitely be back! Happy hour ends at 7."

  • "We have dined at Ozumo 4/5 times before, and it seems to surprize us - for instance this time, how "non-Japanese" it was, perhaps because we did not order sushi or sashimi. The atmosphere is good, not crowded, the seating comfortable, the sevice pretty attentive, though they didn't know that much about Japanese food. Another surprize was that we couldn't tell he size of a dish - some of the small dishes were larger than te main course! It didn't matter because they were all good and we shared. The Ika was particularly good, tender with light batter. Aoba salad was good, like Ceasar's with a tiny bit of fried lotus root - and was HUGE - and shared. Not on the menu - ordinary warm flask (atsukan) of sake, but when it came it was very good!"

  • "I came here with my mom and boyfriend for my 26th birthday and the food was incredible. We only ordered entrees, so our waitress brought us smoked duck on a lotus cracker with jalapeno dressing so we didn't have to wait with no food while our meals were being prepared. I had the Kobe steak, my boyfriend had the chicken, and my mom got the braised short ribs. All three were spectacular. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable of gluten free items (very important for me!) and brought us a complimentary flourless chocolate lava cake with green tea ice cream on top. Delicious! Overall, great experience and I can't wait to go back!"

Waiter came over right away for drinks and water. Food didn't take long at all sushi and food were excellent! We were in and out in no timewith excellent food and service. It was a trendy place with a DJ. The DJ was a bit distracting but not unbearable. The tables were spaced well and gave the feeling of some privacy.   • "We have been to Ozuma on a number of ocasions over the years. This was the first time that we went during restaurant week. The food choices were excellent. However one of the diners did not order from the fixed price menu. One order of saba was mixed up with another order. Once the order was brought to the attention of our waitress it was corrected. All in all, the food was excellent. However, on Friday nights there is a lively bar scene and loud music that made conversations difficult while dining."

  • "We had a great time at Ozumo Restaurant in Oakland. The food was fantastic and the server was good. We had the restaurant week pre-fixe menu which was a great value for our money. There were 4 courses to this meal. Individual Edamame, Winter Salad or Butternut Squash Soup, Sushi Rolls or Sashimi, Salmon or Short Rib, Pumpkin Creme Brulee for dessert. Everything savory was delicious. The creme brulee itself was mediocre however the Sesame Tuille cookie on top was fantastic. All of the food was seasoned perfectly! That was a 5 course meal for $30!! Definitely a great value, great ambiance, and good times!"

  • "We had a chef's tasting menu with the following items and sake pairings through Livingsocial - Three seaweed salad to start Butternut Squash soup Wagyu beef with fingerling potatoes and spinach - the beef was cooked perfectly Miso marinated salmon with brussel sprouts - the salmon was fantastic, but the brussel sprouts were a little undercooked to my liking and covered in a vinegary sauce Uni and mushroom risotto - very creamy and rich Peach creme brulee - delicious!"

I don't know, but I suspect there was a significant staff change at Ozumo. why else did the service suck. wrong orders were brought to the table my guests had to re-order and also the bar service was so slow, 3 beers were ordered and came after the meal."

  • "Going to the Paramount Theater for an 8:00 pm show so this was a convenient spot. Our table was way in the back and private. The noise level was lower an well as the service level at times. We were not rushed to order and able to enjoy a cocktail once we got one. The food was beautifully presented but lacked in taste, especially the romaine salad and a starter with tuna and edemame. The miso had a strong fishy smell to it. The suishi was very good. The black cod from the robata grill was okay but expensive for the amount. The tab was $468. for six-food and drinks. The waiter was sure to get us out in time for the show and the place was packed and humming."

  • "Went to this restaurant for the first time on a Friday night. It was crowded in general, and the bar was packed. The food tasted very good and the menu offered good variety. I found the sushi to be very good, but very expensive. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. The noise level was very high, and I had to strain a bit to hear my date clearly over the table. Table was set a bit too close to other diners, so don't plan on having an intimate conversation with anyone."

Their service is enthusiastic, provided by a team that is clearly interested in helping diners experience the food that Ozumo's is excited to create. The menu is filled with taste sensations that delight the palate. I can't wait to go again!"
