Diner Reviews
  • "The Sunday brunch was absolutely delicious. We have had brunch before and brought two other couples with us. Service was impeccable and brunch options superb. Although a bit pricey at $50 per person, it was well worth the money and we will definitely return when in Tampa. Fresh seafood, pasta bar, sushi, carving table, endless bubbles and bloody marys, etc. were all great. They don't have a dessert table, but a dessert room, which is spectacular for those with a sweet tooth. Definitely recommend reservations."

  • "We dined at Oystercatchers on a Friday night. The food was excellent. We ordered the ahi tatika for an appetizer. While it was very tasty, there was a very small portion of tuna for the $16 price. My husband enjoyed the snapper and I enjoyed the grilled shrimp (only 6 shrimp for $30) with the addition of a crab cake. While all was delicious, it was a bit on the pricey side. Also, service for dinner was okay."

  • "I first happened upon Oystercatchers four or five years ago and returned with my parents and girlfriend on a recent trip to Tampa. Nothing has changed. The food is still great. If you're looking for great seafood with a scenic view, look no further."

  • "for making those special occasions in life even that much more special. I got engaged to my fiancee this weekend and we celebrated at Oystercatchers. Food, service and scenery was second to none. Everytime we go back to Tampa, brunch at Oystercatchers is a must."

  • "Food was good. Portions are a little scarce. My tuna was excellent but felt like it was less than three ounces. Service could be better. Location made up for it. Meal was 2+ hours but really didn't have to be that long. Island-time attitude which is ok when you're on vacation. Servers cashed us out but had to be reminded to bring out our deserts after 30 minutes of wait time. Got it out of my system. Wouldn't go back. Weak drinks, good location, good food, but for those prices, everything needs to be top notch. More of a try it once place."

  • "I went there for a special occasion, and even noted that in my reservation online. The hostess was great, sweet, charming, attractive girl who followed my requests in the online form and sat us promptly. Once seated everything went down hill. The view was great, but we were ignored for 20 minutes. Once our server showed up, she seemed rushed and not at all attentive. We ordered two drinks and before we could ask about food, she was gone. After waiting another 20 minutes for our drinks, (the sun was about to set, and the entire purpose of coming at the time we did was to have a sunset dinner, not sit in darkness with poor service after sunset) after waiting 40 minutes for two drinks, no help from the manager or staff... we left unhappy."

  • "Food was very good, but portions were a bit small, which made it feel a bit pricier than it should have been. Might consider carpet at some point to deaden the noise. Atmosphere wasn't quite as conducive to romantic evening as I might have liked."

  • "We were looking forward to enjoying outstanding views and great food for our anniversary. But, sadly they were out of the entree that we ordered. In fact, over 30 minutes after we ordered passed before our waiter even let us know that we needed to choose something else from the menu. Our food was slow to come out and at the end our waiter forgot the dessert. It was not a great experience for $200."

  • "I had a group of nine for an evening dinner. The ambience was very nice, we were able to have good conversation with good food and service. All who were with my party commented on how nice the evening was."

  • "Our family has been going to the Sunday Brunches at Oystercatchers for over 20-years. One thing you can count on is the superior quality in both food and service. We have always been pleased with the food selection and the servers. You can't beat the view either. Oystercatchers is always on our todo list when company is in town, celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat ourselves!"

  • "Have been a big believer and advocate of this restaurant for years, for pleasure, business, etc... That is over!!! Was excited to take my husband there on his first trip to Tampa. Even more excited than the special night before at Bern's Steakhouse, go figure?!?!. I had my OpenTable resi, asked for a nice table advising the two ladies at check in of same and that it was my husbands first time there. Went from first to worst....... Worst table in the joint."

  • "This was my first time dinning here. It is on my list of favorites. Brought a vendor there who were in from San Jose, Calif. They both loved everything about the dinning experience. We had a party of 7, the service was STELLAR!!"

  • "We booked a table for Sunday dinner and we're very late for our reservation. The hostess was very accommodating and friendly. The waiter was efficient and knowledgeable. The tempura lobster tail was excellent."

  • "There are 2 issues that I feel require attention; 1] I do not drink alcohol and asked for a non alcoholic beer, I was told by the waiter they had one and it was delivered to my table. I took 1 sip and said it was alcoholic 2]. Service was very slow it took 1hr and 45 mintes to get of entree from the kitchen and it was 3 plates of fish and 1 plate of snow crabs. Again no apology but it will be right out , twice, each with 10 minutes inbetween. Not enough space to elaborate"

  • "The seafood was great and the view across the water was enjoyable at sunset. We took a taxi from downtown Tampa to Oystercatchers (Saturday night). The BIG problem was getting a taxi to take us back to Tampa. The restaurant staff tried several times to call a taxi, but were ineffective in making that happen. In the end, we called for the hotel shuttle bus (thinking there might be taxis at the hotel. No luck. The shuttle driver was kind enough to suggest taking us to the Tampa Airport, and we caught a taxi there. Not a great ending to an otherwise nice evening. My advice: take your own car!"

  • "It had been several years since I had eaten at Oyster Catchers, so when I was in Tampa I made sure to visit again. Everything was perfect and I managed to eat their twice while staying at the Hyatt. From the relaxing walk down the boardwalk from the hotel to the restaurant, to the prompt greeting and excellent service I highly recommend. The first meal I had the scallops which were delicious. The second meal was the grouper. I could not have been more pleased. The warm sour dough bread is wonderful, and the fish taco appetizer was excellent. I eat at high end restaurants in DC, NYC,etc.and cannot name one that I would rather eat at then Oyster catchers."

  • "Having lived my entire life in Chicago, I have had several experiences with fine dining so I consider myself to have a very good basis of comparison. Being in Tampa and wanting to eat seafood from the area and at one of the fancier restaurants in town is what led to my decision to have dinner at Oystercatchers with my family of 6. The room was modern and inviting and the waiter was helpful and attentive. We had reservations and were seated immediately and were not rushed through our meals. I would consider the food to be a bit above average overall and in line with the cost. The alcoholic drinks were particularly good as was the dessert. The appetizers and entrees were less memorable although not unpleasant either."

  • "This place is a hidden gem in the middle of the city. It is right on the water and has fabulous sunset views over the bay. I had the Calimari for an appetizer, and they were the best I ever had. Loved the sauce with the Calimari. I had the Sesame shrimp for my entree. The shrimp were overdone and dry. The rice was also dry. My sister had the scallops and they were delicious. We shared a dessert (date bread pudding) which was to die for. I'd definitely have this dessert again. I'm giving this place only 3 stars because my entree was only OK and the prices were very expensive( most entrees were in the $30 -$40 range)."

  • "First timers...We enjoyed fantastic service, awesome app and entrees menu items focused more on seafood than anything. If I'm not mistaken there were only two beef entrees(filet and a rib-eye). All seafood is amazingly fresh(and I'm a seafood snob), entrees were fairly priced, portions were perfect, and everything was cooked perfectly. Although we brought our own wine, their wine list was short, and expensive. Dessert menu was again short, and nothing really special. We chose the peanut butter/chocolate filler phylo dough crust, which was awesome, and that was the most extravagant dessert item. Overall experience was excellent, and we look forward to going back and enjoying more seafood. Highly recommended!!!"

  • "We made a last minute reservation at the grand Hyatt and Oystercatchers for my husbands birthday. I will begin by saying the hotel was great and we enjoyed the nature walk to oystercatchers. However, the hotel will gladly give you a ride if you don't want the short walk. We were given a lovely window table to enjoy the beautiful view. As for the food....we had raw oysters, oysters Rockefeller, whole main lobster, whole red snappers and fig pudding . All were memorable and so was the service. We will be back."

  • "I don't visit Tampa as frequently as I once & this was my first time at this restaurant in several years. It didn't disappoint. The food, the staff, and the ambiance all contributed to a lovely evening. Nice selection of Florida fish and seafood. Hope to have opportunities to return many times in the future."

  • "Service was impeccable. My date and I took our time (ordered the entree after an hour of appetizers and drinks) and never felt rushed. We were a few minutes late to our 8:30 Saturday night reservation and were seated right away. We ordered the calamari, which was fantastic, and split the special (a fantastic grilled snapper). I quite enjoyed the non-pretentious atmosphere that was simple but elegant. The ambience is casual for the price and quality of the food, which is more my style but perhaps not ideal for someone of more decadent taste. I wore jeans and saw plenty of others in jeans as well as cocktail dresses/suits and ties. Overall, I very much enjoyed my visit and will be visiting again. As a local, I'll definitely be visiting again."

  • "The secluded bay side location and ambiance make this restaurant a special place. It seems upscale and comfortably casual at the same time. The atmosphere, excellent seafood entrees and superb service offset the energetic noise level. One of our favorite places to eat in Tampa!"

  • "We always comment on what a lovely setting for a restaurant. Oystercatchers is one of our favorites and you can count on deliciously fresh, well prepared seafood. We only came for lunch and hated to leave."

  • "Oyster Catchers is our farewell to vacation dinner every year in Tampa. Would never leave Tampa without eating there. The staff is terrific and the meal from appetizer to dessert is unforgetable. Whenever possible, we try to begin our vacation with a Grouper sandwich and a Rum Rusher for lunch, as well. Even if we can't stay at the Grand Hyatt, we always make our way over to Oyster Catchers! It just wouldn't be a complete vacation without it."

  • "We were celebrating my son's 15th birthday and really wanted it to be special. The hostess was very nice and because it was my son's birthday she got a table with a beautiful view. Our waiter was ok. We had to ask for every mimosa refill and the latte order at the end of the meal was treated as a huge inconvenience. I ordered an omelet for my son, ask that it be soft - not over cooked. It was hard and dry. The eggs benedict yolks were hard . The pork that was laid out on the cutting board was not even warm. The gentleman working the raw bar was great. The oysters however were horrible. Tough, rubbery, fishy, and were not shucked and cleaned correctly because they were grainy and some impossible to pry from the shell."

  • "Great Sunday to sit outside and enjoy mimosas and relax after a incredibly taxing week. Love the staff and the attentiveness."

  • "Our recent dinner at Oystercatchers was a terrible disappointment. Having dined there years ago and having enjoyed it, we decided to go for a special family birthday dinner. The dinner was a fiasco from start to finish. Our waiter did not take our appetizer and entree order until well after 40 minutes of our arrival at our table. Half of our entrees were wrong, and had to be sent back to the kitchen. As such, half of the table was done eating before the other half of the entrees arrived. The table was wobbly and without linens. Truly a disappointing dining experience."

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times and the service and food rarely disappoint. On this occasion, we met out-of-town family, and one in or party was not satisfied with the chef's special. The waiter asked what would make it better, and the type of fish was replaced with a fresher catch of the day. The ceviche was not as fresh as it could be but not bad. We also stayed and occupied the table longer after dinner and never felt rushed by anyone - unusual in restaurants these days. Definitely will be back and definitely recommend. I suggest you come early to get a window view so you can watch the beautiful sunset, or if the weather is cool and nice, dine out on the patio. Try it!"
